    Scotland 13-3 Samoa

Scotland are penalised for not rolling away and Samoa's kick to touch is successful this time.

The line-out is scrappy from the men in blue but they retain possession.

A counter-ruck by the Scots hands another penalty to Samoa and they take it quickly.

The visitors are up to the try line, right under the posts, but there's such a huge pile of bodies the referee is going straight to the TMO to see if the ball went to ground.

After a grey, drizzly morning when hipflasks and spats seemed to be order of the day, the rain has cleared above Twickenham and a little blue sky has appeared to boot.

  4. Penalty - Scotland 13-3 Samoapublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Russell (24 mins)

We're treated to some patient build-up from the hosts, with a bit of pick and go, before Piula Fa'asalele interrupts it.

But the referee had already spotted a Samoa infringement at the breakdown. Finn Russell lines up the resulting penalty and it's slotted over.

We haven't seen Eddie Jones under pressure but the closer we get to the World Cup the more it'll ramp up. If any cracks start to form and questions are asked, it will be really interesting to see what happens.

It's all going swimmingly though at the moment and they should win these next three games heading into the Six Nations.

Townsend has clearly encouraged his new Scottish players to have a go. The Samoans deserve credit though for their direct rugby and lots of possession. Scotland defending well and refusing to give them too many chances.

A couple more tries would be very welcome before half-time.

After a fairly breathless opening 20 minutes, there's a few moments to concentrate on scrummaging on the half-way line.

Scotland are penalised and Samoa take the penalty, which they kick straight into the hands of the hosts' back line.

Good players react to responsibility. New England open-side Sam Underhill will hit the top statistics of tackles made today. England’s possible missing link is between back and front. I want to see Sam catching the ball and looking for space, not getting contact and going down.

    Is that Scotland's second try?

The ball is kicked through for Lee Jones from Finn Russell.

Paul Perez comes across to try and usher it out of play, but it's kicked back in by Jones and Stuart Hogg gathers to touch down.

Did it go into touch, though? Yes, it did. No try.

Henry Slade made his England debut against France in August 2015, alongside Sam Burgess in the midfield for a pre- World Cup friendly under Stuart Lancaster.

A lot has changed since then.

Lancaster and Burgess are long gone and Slade struggled to get a run under new man Eddie Jones until starting in two Tests against the Pumas this summer while the likes of Owen Farrell, Jonathan Joseph and Ben Teo were on Lions duty.

A key man in an Exeter title-winning team that is poorly represented in England's ranks, can he stake a claim to a first-choice role today?

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland international on BBC One

That's an important three points for Scotland, they've not had a huge amount of possession since their opening try in the first two minutes.

Samoa have had all the pressure so it's good to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

  16. Penalty - Scotland 10-3 Samoapublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Russell (15 mins)

Ah See Tuala pops up with a superb defensive display to deny a break from Scotland up the touchline.

The hosts then earn a penalty, just on the goal line in the centre, and Finn Russell slots it over to edge the Scots ahead.

  17. Penalty - Scotland 7-3 Samoapublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Nanai-Williams (13 mins)

Samoa show some really nice build-up play, stretching out to the right before Lee Jones bundles a blue shirt out of play.

The visitors have earned a penalty in the build up for offside so it's brought back.

This time, Nanai-Williams is successful and Samoa are off the mark.

    Scotland 7-0 Samoa

Samoa earn a penalty and Tim Nanai-Williams, cousin of New Zealand's Sonny Bill Williams, places it on the tee.

It's a long-range kick from the left and it drops short into the hands of a waiting Finn Russell.

    England v Argentina (15:00 GMT)

    Eddie JonesImage source, Getty Images

England head coach Eddie Jones: We just want to get better in each game. Argentina will provide a set-piece and physical test for us so we're looking forward to testing these aspects in particular today.

On the absence of Itoje and Farrell: It's important to plan for contingencies. Rugby is a team game and we want to make sure that our success is not just based on two players.

Playing style: If we can play quickly with ball in hand today, then we've got an opportunity to get on top of Argentina. I'm not worried about complacency. We've trained hard. We're ready and I'm confident that we'll play win and win well.

There's real optimism among the supporters for the season ahead. The Scottish team is full of Glasgow and Edinburgh players who are on form for their clubs and they've started really well. There are beautiful conditions here and the pitch is in magnificent order. I'm expecting a lot more tries as the game progresses.
