    England 11-3 Argentina

England have slotted Anthony Watson into full-back with Semesa Rokoduguni on the wing in Mike Brown's absence.

Juan Martin Hernandez takes on the kicking duties as Argentina's front row gets the drop on their England opposite numbers at scrum time.

Not one of the 10's finest. A horrible shank off the tee and there are no mulligans in this sport.

For me, it’s a composure thing and that comes from knowing and trusting the guys around you. Unfortunately we don’t have the time. The guys have just come into camp eight days ago. Samoa have got a big job on their hands to deliver that.

It was a fair contest for the ball and I don't think there was anything dangerous about the challenge. But Tuculet has caught Brown's arm as he's jumped up and it's dragged him down where he's hit his head. He's had big problems with concussion in the past and quite rightly they've taken him off.

That's what George Ford can do. He's got the ability to switch the play out wide with lightning speed. He picked the right pass over five players to Nathan Hughes and I wouldn't fancy stopping him when he's running full tilt from five metres.

England make immediate inroads into the under-staffed Pumas.

Mako Vunipola pulls back a pass to give George Ford room and the Leicester stand-off flings a mammoth mis-pass to Nathan Hughes who is lurking on the wing.

The number eight juggles, claims and steamrollers through Emiliano Boffelli and Juan Martin Hernandez to score.

Ford just off target with the extras.

    That is harsh.

Joaquin Tuculet is shown yellow despite making an honest-to-goodness attempt to catch the ball.

Not sure what else the Puma could have done - and Brian Moore describes the decision as "astonishingly bad".

Semesa Rokoduguni is on for Mike Brown for England.

Mike Brown has copped a really nasty one here.

The England full-back goes up for an aerial ball with Argentina opposite number Joaquin Tuculet.

Absolutely nothing malicious in there, but Brown tipples head over heels and bangs his head onto the turf.

Samoa have struggled at the line-outs so they’ll be talking about fixing that up now for sure.

They took their moments when they had a chance.

I think that’s what they need to do more of in the second half, lift the tempo.

Gregor Townsend will be happy with the first-half performance. Samoa certainly know how to tackle, pass and handle the ball well. Three tries is a pleasing performance which can be built on after the break.

    England 6-3 Argentina

    Matt Dawson
Former Lions and England scrum-half on BBC 5 live

England are fanning out to cover any type of wide attack. Creevy there tried to break through the middle to counter it and I think we'll see more of that from Argentina. England could make use of that tactic too.

Juan Martin Hernandez is a box of tricks, but I didn't know that he had that one in his top hat.

The Argentina fly-half limpets onto the ball and rips it from the grasp of a full pelt Courtney Lawes.

    Not many do that.

  17. Postpublished at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    England 6-3 Argentina

    Paul Gustard won't like that.

England's defence coach watches on as his side haemorrhage yards as the Pumas charge in at close quarters around the fringes and the England guards fail to knock them back.

But a greasy ball gets away from the visitors and England have a scrum to get off the hook, at least until the video review session on Monday.

  20. Scrum weakness?published at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    England 6-3 Argentina

    Paul Grayson
    Former Lions and England fly-half

Argentina used to have one main strength which was the scrum but developed a more expansive game. This took them to the World Cup semis where they probably had the balance right. Their strength in the scrum has eroded a bit though since. If their set-pieces aren't quite right, then watch England take control.
