God Save the Queen is quite short isn't it?

Like the Song Two of national anthems. Sort of.

Anyway, we are done with the ditties. England strip off tracksuits to reveal their dark blue away kit.

George Ford is captaining England on the occasion of his 50th cap. He trots out ahead of the two teams to take the Twickenham acclaim.

A lovely dry, crisp day for running rugby. The sort of the conditions the All Blacks would have wanted last weekend. And at the top of Japan's list of preferences for this.

    Anthems incoming...

We asked who would win the World Cup if it was decided by national cuisine. Your thoughts so far:

    Callum Crawford: Scotland, obviously

Phil: Italy’s only chance of winning a World Cup.

Boris the chef: Italy vs Scotland and France vs Japan. However.... England do have some of the best chefs in the world and everyone wants to come cook here, it's a right of passage for some great chefs.

  4. 'They'll give everything they've got'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2018

    England v Japan (15:00 GMT)

England head coach Eddie Jones speaking on BBC Radio 5 live:

"We want to entertain the fans, we want to play good rugby to ensure our supporters at home are enjoying the game.

"You can get seduced by the occasion. There may be a bit more space out there than there normally is and the players have to keep on doing their job.

"I like the look of our backline, we’ve trained well so we can get some good ball going forward and get a bit of freedom.

"Japan will be committed, they’ve had a long preparation for this game and they’ll give everything they’ve got."

  6. England by 30+ points?published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2018

The bookmakers have this year's meeting as an England win by a comfortable, if slightly smaller, margin.

The spread is 32-35 points in England's favour.

If you feel like bucking that trend, Japan are available at more than 40-1 for the win.

There is only one previous meeting between these two sides.

We have to spool right back to the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987 and England's 60-7 pool-stage win.

Brian Moore, Gareth Chilcott and Nigel Redman were all in an England pack in an era when having hair was considered effete by gristled forwards.

Which got us thinking, who would win the Rugby World Cup if it was decided by national cuisine rather than points on the pitch?

    I've got quarter-finals of:

    France v Uruguay

    Italy v Ireland

    Georgia v Argentina

    Japan v South Africa

England attempted to replicate the four-day turnaround between their World Cup opener against Tonga and their following pool game against United States by letting the players have a couple of days off after the defeat by New Zealand last Saturday.

When the squad came back together on Tuesday night for a compressed preparation, coach Eddie Jones surprised then with a sushi meal.

“There were loads of plates of sushi and all the fat boys were looking at each other and saying: ‘Is this play on?’" revealed Kyle Sinckler.

"Eddie even joked every player had to eat with chopsticks throughout the week otherwise you are in trouble. And I was: ‘Oh God, looks like room service for me, then!’”

Joe Cokanasiga may be trying to force his way into Eddie Jones' plans for World Cup 2019, but the 21-year-old did actually have a small cameo role in World Cup 2015.

The Fijian-born winger was part of a troupe of traditional dancers who involved in the pre-match entertainment before the tournament's opening match.

I think this is him on the left in the picture above...

Watching him do this sort of things to defences is also quite entertaining...

The current Japan team, coached by former All Black Jamie Joseph, has looked in decent nick this autumn.

They won praise from All Black coach Steve Hansen for the razzle-dazzle they displayed in scoring five tries in a 69-31 defeat a fortnight ago.

On their last match in Europe they should have beaten France, but fly-half Yu Tamura missed a straightforward late conversion to leave the teams tied 26-26., external

You wouldn't guess it from the pre-match chat.

"Pray, pray, pray. Go to the temple and pray. Just pray, it's the best thing. We're going to be absolutely ruthless," Eddie Jones said when asked about how he would prepare Japan for meeting his team.

"If I was Japan I'd be worried. We want to smash them, physically smash them."

And the trash talk flows both ways.

"We've been bullied a lot by Eddie and would like to give it back by beating England as a sign of gratitude," said Japan captain Michael Leitch of his former coach.

Forget a lengthy employment tribunal, let's sort it out over an 80-minute hit-out.
