    Quote Message

I don't think Ireland have been the better team today. They have definitely been more aggressive, their intent has been excellent and they got away a classic Joe Schmidt move for the second try.

Mark: Laidlaw is a great kicker but not a great scrum half. His speed of thought is far too slow and he poses no running threat. It allows opposition teams to easily organise their defences

Anon: Irish backs play so basic once it goes beyond 6 phases. Very easy to defend against off static ball

  3. Is the Price right for Scotland?published at 70 mins

    Scotland 13-22 Ireland

Scotland have called for Ali Price, meaning captain Greig Laidlaw's race is run.

The replacement is a much faster attacking presence and Scotland need scores now.

  4. That penalty was 'crucial'published at 70 mins

    Scotland 13-22 Ireland

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland Sevens captain on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

25 phases and Ireland made about half a yard from that move, but the crucial thing is they received the penalty which takes it to a two-score game again, makes it incredibly difficult for Scotland.

  5. Penalty Scotland 13-22 Irelandpublished at 69 mins

    Joey Carbery

Assured stuff from the 23-year-old in the swirling Edinburgh gusts.

Scotland have it all to do now.

  6. 'The referee has one decsion'published at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2019

    Scotland 13-19 Ireland

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland international on BBC One

Scotland are doing so well getting off the line, and Ireland are getting very narrow in attack but Josh Strauss is in the way and the referee has one decision.

  7. Ireland with chance to strikepublished at 68 mins

    Scotland 13-19 Ireland

Outstanding defence from Scotland, keeping Ireland at bay for 27 phases.

But, once again, they end up shooting themselves in the foot.

Josh Strauss doesn't roll away after tackling Josh van der Flier and it's an Irish penalty.

Carbery lines it up. This to restore Ireland's two-score lead...

  8. Aerial duelpublished at 64 mins

    Scotland 13-19 Ireland

A battle of boots just now, with Laidlaw and Murray sending up towering box-kicks as both sides joust for territorial gain.

It ends in disaster for Blair Kinghorn, who drops Murray's long punt under no pressure. That's a sore one for the young Edinburgh man.

Ireland scrum, just outside the Scottish 22.

  9. Penalty Scotland 13-19 Irelandpublished at 63 mins

    Greig Laidlaw

Laidlaw doesn't miss many. That's a very good kick from wide on the left.

Scotland are back within a score.

  10. Time for Ali Price?published at 62 mins

    Scotland 10-19 Ireland

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland Sevens captain on BBC Radio Scotland

Should Scotland call for livewire scrum-half Ali Price to inject some more tempo?

It would mean taking off their captain Greig Laidlaw, who is currently lining up a penalty shot from wide on the left after Bundee Aki infringed at the breakdown.

    Quote Message

Scotland need to get some of the impetus back. I'd be tempted to bring on Ali Price - would he bring a bit of spark to Scotland and bring their tempo back up?

  11. Scotland struggling for momentumpublished at 62 mins

    Scotland 10-19 Ireland

Former Scotland captain on BBC One

    Quote Message

It is not that Scotland are flat. They have just made a few mistakes in the second half which has just stopped them getting momentum.

  12. Scotland count cost of mistakespublished at 60 mins

    Scotland 10-19 Ireland

Scotland are making some silly errors that are really hurting them, particularly when they come after periods of very good play.

Allan Dell punctures the Irish line but tries to force an off-load and knocks-on.

  13. 'Earls earns his reward'published at 58 mins

    Scotland 10-19 Ireland

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland international on BBC One

The Ireland players are taught to run up field when the break is made. What a great pass by Joey Carbery to Keith Earls, who earns his reward.

  14. converted try

Converted try Scotland 10-19 Irelandpublished at 56 mins

    Keith Earls

Out of nowhere, a stunning score. But so very soft from a Scottish perspective.

Sean O'Brien flings a loose pass way behind Carbery, the fly-half goes back to gather it under loads of pressure, but somehow squeezes between two Scottish tacklers and breaks clear.

Kinghorn and Seymour are closing on him, but his flights a beautiful pass out to the galloping Earls, who runs in unopposed.

A great bit of play by Carbery, but how easily he weaseled through Allan Dell and Rob Harley's double-tackle will infuriate the Scottish coaches.

The replacement fly-half adds the conversion and it's a nine-point lead now.

  15. Two 'magnificent' defences todaypublished at 55 mins

    Scotland 10-12 Ireland

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

Matt Taylor and Andrew Farrell, the defensive coaches, will be getting bonuses this week - two teams with magnificent defence. But I think Scotland's defence has been a bit more aggressive with more turnovers.

  16. 'Efficient at the breakdown'published at 55 mins

    Scotland 10-12 Ireland

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland international on BBC One

Both sides have been really efficient at the breakdown and they recognise when the ball is lost.

But the intensity around the rucking is the same as the tackling and people are just being cleared out pretty quickly.

  17. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Scotland 10-12 Ireland

Ireland have the upper hand in the scrummage, winning a penalty after splintering the Scottish pack. Not for the first time.

Carbery boots down to the home 22 and the Irish are on the attack again.

Once more, they cough it up and Kinghorn belts clear.

Momentum is swinging one way then the other. Now it's Scotland's line-out on the away 10m line.

  18. Monstrous McInallypublished at 49 mins

    Scotland 10-12 Ireland

This time, it's Scotland who produce a phenomenal defensive set.

A loose pass is regathered by Keith Earls, but he's absolutely levelled by two tacklers.

Stuart McInally gets over the ball and wins a penalty.

    What a battle this is.

  19. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Scotland 10-12 Ireland

Ireland go scything through the Scottish defence out wide, with Kearney galloping into the 22.

An excellent Johnson cover tackle brings him down and the ball is lost forward.

Back we go for an Irish penalty, though. Rob Harley the guilty party for a high tackle.

Carbery goes for the corner again.

  20. Daft penalty lets Ireland offpublished at 45 mins

    Scotland 10-12 Ireland

Scotland built some really nice momentum there and had an overlap to exploit, but a silly infringement from Jonny Gray lets Ireland off the hook.

The big lock illegally took out Sean O'Brien at a ruck and Carbery boots play down to the home 22.
