More from Samoa coach Steve Jackson, who's not given up hope of reaching the quarter-finals. "We are one win from two games. Scotland and Ireland are exactly the same. We've got to get back on the horse and prepare for Japan. If we get a result against Japan, we are right back in it. By no means do we think we are down and out."

"They executed everything they did, showed great skill and moved the ball well. They chanced their arm at times, but I thought they played extremely well."

  12. Ritchie outstanding againpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Arguably Scotland's stand-out forward during the Six Nations, Gregor Townsend said Jamie Ritchie was 'unlucky not to start' against Ireland, with a facial injury in the final warm-up match keeping him out.

But he returned today and was once again outstanding. The 23-year-old made 11 tackles and won two turnovers as he stepped up in the absence of the injured Hamish Watson.

    FT Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Laidlaw has also been speaking as he passed 700 points for Scotland, second only to Chris Paterson in the all-time list. The Jedburgh man also grabbed the second try.

"It’s always nice to score points for Scotland," he said. "Timmy [Nanai-Williams], my mate from down in Clermont he came in and gave me a bit of a bashing and I managed to just sprint out of it and I never really knew where I was and I got my senses and managed to crawl over the line, so it was an important try.

"Samoa are a good team and they will be disappointed I think from their perspective tonight but we just gave them no room to breathe and our forward defence is awesome and that’s credit to the boys but also [defence coach] Matty Taylor as well."

  20. 'Every man and their dog had a go at us'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

It's safe to say Greig Laidlaw enjoyed that victory after a tough week for the squad.

"It’s awesome, you got every man and his dog jumping out from behind their bushes last week and calling us a few things so all we could do tonight was come out and put in a performance" he told BBC Scotland. "Sadly we won’t get the Irish game back, it’s in the history books.

"We’ve got a foothold in the competition and that’s what we asked the boys to get from this week and now we move on and get onto the next match.
