Scotland get the penalty and that, is that!

In difficult conditions Scotland were made to work very hard for their four-try bonus point, but all that matters is that they've got it. 'Raw relief' says former captain Rory Lawson. Quite.

Scotland have put this game to bed. Both sides now chucking the ball around and the crowd getting some real entertainment in the final minutes of this match, and Scotland are desperate to keep Samoa at nil here, but Samoa are such a proud nation on the centre-stage.

Superb defence by Scotland. They steal the ball and George Horne clears it away. Every point will count in Pool A.

  5. Penalty try correct callpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 34-0 Samoa

    Rory Lawson

This is another huge call. There's nothing else Ed Fidow can do but you can't go in with your knees there - it had to be a penalty try.

    Scotland 34-0 Samoa

It's all a bit harem-scarem now! Fraser Brown streaks through a gap, but his pass is intercepted by Tim Nanai-Williams who scampers down the pitch before being brought down!

Samoan recycle though and are stopped on the right-hand side as Ulupano Seuteni's pass goes to deck. They have the penalty though and go for the corner. They want on the board.

Penalty Try - Scotland 34-0 Samoapublished at 75 mins

    There's the bonus point!!

Ed Fidow, who's only just returned from the sin-bin, used his knees to stop Sean Maitland scoring in the corner. As a result, it's a penalty try and Fidow has been sent off. What relief for Scotland!!

  8. Try review- Scotlandpublished at 74 mins

Oh dear, oh dear. Sean Maitland had the try-line at his mercy and he's slid too early and lost it. But it's a tackle without the arms by the Samoan defender, he's used his knees!

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

Scotland have a 22-metre drop-out, and it was lucky. It was supposed to be a Samoa line-out given they had a penalty, but they put the ball dead! Scotland turn it over now too and are on the attack again. Patience needed.

Time is running out for Scotland if they are to find that bonus point. Will they get it?

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

Hugely frustrating as Sean Maitland needlessly throws an offload to deck. He's done that a few times today, he should really just keep ball in hand.

Samoa have the line-out just inside their own half.

  12. Red-hot conditions causing tirednesspublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

    Rory Lawson
    Former Scotland captain

There are some tired bodies out there - it must be exhausting. The stadium almost feels airless. Roofed stadiums are normally air-conditioned but this doesn't seem to - it is red hot.

  13. Samoa getting up in Scotland's facespublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

    Tana Umaga
Former New Zealand captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

Samoa have shown some great heart on defence - but it's because they've been on defence for so long. They're getting up in Scotland's faces now, but they need to turn defence into attack.

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

Superb defence by Samoa. A couple of huge hits stop Scotland in their tracks and Zander Fagerson gets isolated and Seilala Lam wins the penalty at the breakdown.

Pressure grows on Scotland for that bonus point.

  15. Townsend’s big calls pay offpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

    Andy Burke
BBC Scotland at Kobe Misaki Stadium

Much was made of Gregor Townsend’s decision to dispense with many of his most experienced campaigners and place his trust in some of the younger members of his squad.

Those big calls all look to have paid off. The all-new back-row trio of Magnus Bradbury, Jamie Ritchie and Blade Thomson have all showed up well, while Darcy Graham has been his usual bundle of energy on the wing.

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

A piece of brilliance by Samoa as Tim Nanai-Williams makes a good break from under his own posts. But lock Kane Le'Aupepe knocks on.

Here comes the ultimate poacher George Horne at scrum-half. Greig Laidlaw goes off. Horne will have the put-in at the scrum just outside the Samoa 22.

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

Ach, that's sloppy. Prop Gordon Reid spills the ball as he makes a dive for the line. Samoa have the scrum and can eat up the minutes until winger Ed Fidow can return from the bin.

Another belter of a kick from Stuart Hogg, who has been outstanding with the boot today. Samoa have a line-out about 7 metres from their own line.

  20. The game is gone nowpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 27-0 Samoa

    Rory Lawson
    Former Scotland captain

It's the right call - and it's a killer punch for Scotland. The next 10 minutes, playing against 14 Samoa players, knowing they are one score away from that five-pointer - I'm going to say the game is gone now. Scotland are in such a strong position.
