  2. What else in the pool?published at 14:32 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Away from Gregor Townsend's men, Scotland fans in Japan will be keeping a keen eye on what else is going in pool A.

On Thursday, Russia take on Ireland in Kobe with the Irish trying to bounce back from their Japan defeat. Then, on Saturday, Japan host Samoa in what could be a monumental match that goes a long way to deciding the fate of this pool.

  3. World class Hogg influential againpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Amidst all the bonus-point induced tension, I forgot about Stuart Hogg's ridiculous 45-metre drop goal in the first half.

He may not be scoring an abundance of tries in a Scotland jersey at the moment as he closes in on the all-time record of 24 held by Tony Stanger and Ian Smith , but his influence is massive. With the boot he was flawless today, and often he shapes the Scotland attack.

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

According the the World Rugby stats from today's game, Scotland's success at the set-piece - both scrum and lineout- was 100%.

It's also the first time Scotland have kept a team scoreless in Gregor Townsend's 29 games in charge.

  9. 'The hurt stays with you' - Graypublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Scotland lock Jonny Gray has been speaking to BBC Scotland after that win: "Just really proud. It's been a tough week for us. When you let a lot of people down like we did last week, we let ourselves down people who traveled out and those watching back home. You have to move on, but that hurt still stays with you. The consistency's frustrating but we got the result.

"I think we're lucky in the second-row with the competition and how together we are. That review was tough to watch but there was honest conversations, and it wasn't nice to hear those things but you have to do that to move and grow.

"This team play with a lot of passion, and when you let people down you have to put it right straight away."

  10. 'Players showed who they are'published at 13:58 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

More from Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend, speaking to BBC Scotland: "It was hard work. We set the tone in the first five or ten minutes with the way we tackled and took the game to the opposition with our tackling, ball carrying and kick-chase.

"They showed who they are through their courage and the pressure they put on a good team. There's no better feeling than coming back from adversity and delivering with your mates."

  13. 'We're still in this World Cup' - Townsendpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend speaking at the Kobe Misaki Stadium: "We tried to build on what we did in the first-half. It was excellent in the way we defended.

"We were a bit loose in our first ten minutes of the second half but the pressure told in the end. I'm really pleased with the work rate of the team. We would have been disappointed if we hadn't picked it up [the bonus point].

"It means we're still in this World Cup and it means if we play like we did tonight, plus improve another few areas of our game then we'll be very much in this World Cup."

  15. Big statement from Scotlandpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland Sevens captain on BBC Radio Scotland

When you look at the scoreline it's a big statement, especially how passive Scotland were against Ireland.

There was good variety to the tries, obviously two penalty tries, but it was a lot better than from Ireland.

You have to put it into context that Samoa are not at the same level, but Scotland can't control that and can only go out and control their own performance and they did that well.

  17. Professional performancepublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Everybody fronted up from justified criticism from the previous game - a huge relief and a professional performance.

If we'd won that game and not got the bonus point it was outwith our hands, but it's in our own hands now.

They did what they had to do and they did so with some style, and defensively they were outstanding, to zero a team in the Rugby World Cup.

  20. Miles better from Scotlandpublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    FT: Scotland 34-0 Samoa

    Rory Lawson
    Former Scotland captain

Scotland are back in this tournament and you can tell the relief in them. The job is only half done. But a step closer to that quarter-final and the performance was miles better from where it was previously.
