  1. Half-time- Scotland 20-0 Samoapublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

Tries from Sean Maitland and Greig Laidlaw and a monster drop-goal by Stuart Hogg has Scotland firmly in control. They overcame a period of frustration midway through that half as errors mounted, not helped by the slippery conditions.

It's a good lead though, and they'll now have an eye on another two tries which will secure that vital bonus point.

    Scotland 20-0 Samoa

A disappointing attack that one as Scotland are eventually pinged. Bizarrely Samoa think kicking it out will sound the whistle, but it doesn't...luckily they win the line-out.

    Scotland 20-0 Samoa

All of a sudden, a game that seemed to be slipping away from Scotland as the errors mounted, is totally in their grip. They get another penalty at the scrum just inside the Samoa half. Stuart Hogg melts it into touch as they go for the line-out.

It's another monster of a kick from him. World class. Credit to Gordon Reid for winning that penalty too.

  4. Drop-goal- Scotland 20-0 Samoapublished at 38 mins

    Stuart Hogg

WOW. A drop goal from about 45 metres out, just shy of the half-way line! That was incredible from the Scotland full-back as he piles on the pressure on the scoreboard.

Laidlaw has done well to stay on his feet. He has done brilliantly well and Scotland have two tries in four minutes, and, seemingly control of this match.

  6. try

    Greig Laidlaw

    And another!

That all came from the brilliant Finn Russell once more. The fly-half breaks the line, pops it out the back to Jamie Ritchie who draws his man and passes to Laidlaw. The little scrum-half almost stops as if he thinks he won't make it, then Samoa full-back Tim Nanai-Williams smashes him towards the try-line and he stumbles over to score!

The Clermont man dusts himself off and nails the conversion. A bitter pill to swallow for Samoa now.

Probably no less than we have deserved, Scotland have been the dominant side.

  8. try

    Sean Maitland

    That, is beautiful.

From a penalty advantage, Finn Russell's delicate cross-field kick drops into the arms of a gleeful Maitland who finishes. You can see the relief on the Scotland players' faces.

    Greig Laidlaw converts.

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

And again, handling lets Scotland down. A successful rolling maul comes to a halt, and just as they get quick ball, the pass slips through Jonny Gray's hands like a bar of soap. Samoa clear and Scotland are back in their own half. It was a poor pass from Greig Laidlaw that one.

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

Ach, composure lets Scotland down. A nice move off a scrum gets the ball into Stuart Hogg's hands. He puts in Sean Maitland who sprints down the right, but as he's ushered to touch he panics and tries to fling a pass to Darcy Graham that just wasn't on, and it trundles into touch.

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

Here come Samoa! TJ Ioane trucks one up but now Scotland get the penalty. That's better from the Samoans though, Jamie Ritchie is the Scotland player to get his hands on the ball.

Ooft Finn Russell spills one and Samoa come forward. Someone get some talc on that rugby ball...

After that scrum, Tim Nanai-Williams leathers one into the Scotland half. The Scots are now mauling their way forward...

  14. Fantastic five needed for Scotlandpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

    Rory Lawson
    Former Scotland captain

Scotland's strategy is working. They are playing rugby in the right areas. Let's not forget, they need five points to really be in a position to fight for a quarter-final come that Japan game.

  15. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

After a few phases, Scotland captain Stuart McInally knocks-on. The intensity is there, but the accuracy is not at the moment for Scotland. Though they're not helped by the conditions of course.

  16. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

Samoan scrum-half Melani Matavao tries a grubber kick and Scotland turn it over. Chris Harris stabs a kick into their 22 and Sean Maitland tackles Tim Nanai-Williams on his own line.

After a few phases the Samoa full-back manages to clear their lines. It's frantic, the ball looks incredibly slippy. Let's hope those Scotland training sessions with the shampoo and conditioner pay off...

  17. Samoa not coping with Scotlandpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

    Tana Umaga
Former New Zealand captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

Scotland are coming with an intensity that Samoa have not matched. They are not winning the advantage line because of the Scotland defence. When Samoa are on the defensive they can't stop Scotland getting that quick ball forward. But they are only three points behind and hopefully they will be able to get on top and make things happen.

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

Samoa win the scrum penalty, then almost lose the resulting line-out before eventually gathering. Tusi Pisi then launches one into Scottish territory and Finn Russell sends it back.

It's a bit error strewn from both sides, neither able to keep the ball. Ping-pong with the boot too.

  19. 'A terrific start'published at 11:34 British Summer Time 30 September 2019

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

It's a terrific start for Scotland, we don't say that often enough. Scotland are forcing mistakes out of them.

Scotland look like an angry team.

    Scotland 3-0 Samoa

The intensity in defence from Scotland is far, far better tonight. Grant Gilchrist is a man on a mission, putting in a couple of thumping hits.

They're forcing mistakes, but this time Samoa will have the scrum after it was knocked forward by a Scottish tackler.

Allan Dell meanwhile has had to go off in the front-row, Gordon Reid is on in his place.
