Friday - Wimbledon officials announce there will be a People's Sunday for a fourth time (previously in 1991, 1997 and 2004) to clear a backlog of matches caused by rain delays.

    The British weather, eh?

  5. People's Sunday: the memoriespublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

So, we had play on the middle Sunday for the first time since 2004. On this sun-nudged afternoon we saw:

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat John Isner 19-17 in the fifth set of their epic.

Serena breeze through with a rattling 6-3 6-0 canter against Annika Beck.

And the electric Nick Kyrgios set up a splendid Monday afternoon showdown with Andy Murray thanks to a typically entertaining 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 6-4 win over Spanish 22nd seed Feliciano Lopez.

    Good times.

Tomas Berdych, speaking on BBC One: "It was a very good match. Playing on Sunday, on this Centre Court, is very special. I am very pleased with the way I played and the way I handled the match.

"I really love traditions and I get a chance to play on Centre Court on a Sunday. There's nothing better than that.

"Zverev is a future Grand Slam winner. I am pleased to make this game. He is definitely the guy we are going to hear a lot about. I wish him all the best in the future."

  7. 'It's been a tough week for Zverev'published at 17:09 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Zverev 3-6 4-6 6-4 1-6 Berdych

    Jamie Baker
Former GB Davis Cup player on BBC One

Zverev was up against one of the most experienced players. He is not used to being up against someone where just the slightest lapse of concentration costs you.

It's been a really tough week with the weather. His first and second round matches were both delayed. All of that, he would never have experienced before.

It was an entertaining match. We saw some of the best of Tomas Berdych in those two sets. In the end, Zverev’s efforts to get this far, he just ran out of resistance.

The end came quickly, but Zverev has shown us enough this afternoon to believe the hype around his future. Well played the Berdman, on you fly.

  9. 'Berdych is using his luck'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    Simon Reed

A 135mph serve is the quickest from Berdych all afternoon. He has got lucky but he has used his luck so impressively in this last set.

    Zverev 3-6 4-6 6-4 1-4 Berdych

Trouble again for the talented young German, the weariness creeping into those long legs, the groundstrokes slipping wide and long, another break offered up and seized with alacrity by the hungry Berdych. Two holds of serve away from the fourth round, the big Czech.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has prolonged his day even further by kindly addressing the media after beating John Isner 19-17 in the fifth set. “It’s good to be alive," says the Frenchman. "I will have a good recovery from this one and tomorrow be fit to play again for sure."

And did he think of his friend and compatriot Nicolas Mahut, the man who lost 70-68 to Isner six years ago? “A little bit. I was focused on the game but to be honest, once I said, ‘Wow! It’s going to be long like Nicolas.’”

Every game a mini-epic now, not least for the flaws in both men's games. We come and go through deuce like a car driven via faulty satnav, until Berdych works space down Zverev's backhand side and kisses the line with his winner. How can the callow kid respond?

    Monday tickets queue

What a whirlwind weekend for Welshman Nathan Pugh, who I caught up with in the queue for Monday tickets.

The 23-year-old Swansea City fan watched his countrymen reach the Euro 2016 semi-finals, with victory over Belgium on Friday, in a fans' zone in Cardiff.

Now he and pals Toby Cox and Josh Walker have tickets 500, 501 and 502 in the Wimbledon queue, with the first 500 guaranteed Centre Court tickets.

Of Wales's Euro exploits, he said: "We're just happy to be in the tournament. All this is a massive bonus."

    Zverev 3-6 4-6 6-4 Berdych

It is well and truly game on. That was not a cry of somebody who believes they can push Berdych close. That was a cry of someone who believes they can win this match.

The error count from Berdych just wasn't there in the first few sets. Something has happened, probably a combination of Zverev making a few balls from the return. You talk about people being in the zone. Berdych definitely was but now something has happened and he's drifted out of it.
