    Federer 7-5 6-2 1-0 *Pouille

These two have been on court for a smidge under 80 minutes now and you-know-who is two sets to the good and keeping his fans in the crowd very happy indeed.

Federer has just started the third set with another one of those quickfire blink-and-you-miss it games where he held to love without seemingly doing very much at all. Pouille is having to work a lot harder just to stay in this match.

    Evans 6-4 3-1 Sousa*

Woah. The Joao Sousa roar rumbles around Court One as he celebrates saving that break like a bear hunting for breakfast. The Portuguese dices a volley into the tape to give Dan Evans another breaker opportunity, but he can't take it.

    Evans 6-4 3-1 Sousa*

Sousa, meanwhile, is all shrugs and signs of frustration... he hands Evans another break point chance.

    *Federer 7-5 6-2 0-0 Pouille

"It almost feels like Pouille is trying to win the point too quickly," says Boris Becker. "He needs to try to construct the point by moving Federer from side to side, but he is going for the winner right away."

Maybe the Frenchman is listening, because he digs in on the next point. Boris is impressed but it is to no avail - Fed takes it and 15-30 soon becomes 15-40 and two set-points to the Swiss.

Pouille saves one but the second is pure fantasy Federer, as he scuttles to the corner to latch on to a sliced volley and send a spinning forehand into Pouille's body.

    Evans 6-4 3-1 Sousa*

Dan Evans is geeing himself up between every point, strutting around behind the baseline muttering "come on" under his breath. He finds his range with the cutest of chips over an onrushing Joao Sousa and then polishes off the point with a slamming volley.

    15-30.

    Evans 6-4 3-1 Sousa*

Deep, solid baseline strokes from Dan Evans to keep forcing Joao Sousa into mistakes.

When the Portuguese does come forward, Evans picks him off at the net with a passing winner to hold to love and consolidate his break.

If Dan Evans wins this match, it looks like he will overtake Cameron Norrie and become the British number two when next rankings are published after Wimbledon. (That’s according to my maths and the live ATP rankings).

A really deep run here and we could be looking at a new British number one after Kyle Edmund’s second-round exit.

  8. Postpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Federer 7-5 5-2 *Pouille

Fed was 4-0 and 30-0 a minute ago, now he is 4-2 and 40-15... but not for long before a Pouille forehand return down the line helps him back to deuce.

The Frenchman is fighting hard to stay in this but he has got to take every chance Fed offers him - he managed it last time, but it is beyond him here.

Two forehands fly long, and Fed is soon sitting in his chair, a game away from collecting the second set too.

  9. Evans breakspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Evans 6-4 2-1 Sousa

Dan Evans only needs one! Joao Sousa ripples the net and that's an early break in the second set for the British number three.

Framer from Joao Sousa after he had Dan Evans on the run. The Portuguese yanks it wide and that's three break points.

    Evans 6-4 1-1 Sousa*

Good, aggressive tennis from Dan Evans, leaping on the short ball to punish his Portuguese opponent. Joao Sousa flunks a forehand into the tramlines and starts shouting at himself.

    0-30.

  12. Postpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Federer 7-5 4-2 Pouille

That's exactly the service game Pouille needed. He lands some big ones, and holds to love. Now, can he repeat his trick on the Fed serve?

  13. Postpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Evans 6-4 1-1 Sousa*

Dan Evans mixes it up and goes strutting towards the net, forcing Joao Sousa into a lob and watching on thankfully as it drops wide. The world number 61 zips his way to 40-15 and then an undercooked Sousa stroke rattles the net.

  14. Federer practice helps Evanspublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

Court One erupted after Dan Evans took that first set.

His practice with Roger Federer yesterday seems to be paying off.

This crowd have already seen one Briton reach the last 16 today on this court and they have left Evans in no doubt that they want to see another.

    Federer 7-5 4-1 *Pouille

A brief glimmer of hope for Pouille as he clambers to 30-40 but Fed closes the door with a big second serve.

Hang on a minute, though, because Pouille has got his groove back and a stinging return means he has another shot at this... and he takes it too, as Fed shanks a backhand wide.

    This is not over yet!

    *Evans 6-4 0-1 Sousa

Dan Evans broke in the opening game of the first set but can't repeat the trick in the second - Joao Sousa rifling down a series of fierce serves.

  18. Six games in a row for Federerpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Federer 7-5 4-0 Pouille

Pouille needs to get more of his first serves in - he has managed only 42% so far - because Federer is gobbling up his second serve.

The Frenchman has other problems too - Federer's backhand was out of sync earlier, but it is on song now. Two spectacular winners, one down the line and one into the opposite corner are proof of that.

That's another break for Fed, who is charging through this second set.

  19. Game and first set Evanspublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Evans 6-4 Sousa

Dan Evans takes the set! A leaping serve is flopped back into the net by Joao Sousa and it's the British number three who edges ahead.

    *Evans 5-4 Sousa

Joao Sousa with the whole court to put Dan Evans away, but jabs the volley back towards his opponent... Evans makes no mistake with a whipping backhand winner.

    Two set points.
