    *Evans 5-4 Sousa

Ace to kick off this service game from Dan Evans, right on the chalk says Hawk-Eye, that's his second of the match. A meaty body serve follows to ruffle Joao Sousa's feathers 30-0.

    Federer 7-5 3-0 *Pouille

The first set was pretty evenly matched until the very end. The second set has been a little more one-sided so far.

Fed is in complete control. Pouille needs to find the shots he was producing earlier, otherwise this could be over quite quickly.

  6. 'Easy for Pouille'published at 17:39 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Federer 7-5 1-0 *Pouille

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

In a way it's easy for Pouille today because there's no pressure, he's playing Roger on the biggest court we have.

The question for him is what's he going to do throughout the rest of the year?

  7. Fed is on firepublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Federer 7-5 2-0 Pouille

Federer has played a few special shots in his time and this is one of them - he somehow picks up a skidding low volley from far out past his right-hand tram-line and whips it back over the net and past Pouille, who was probably celebrating a winner.

The Swiss could not get a racquet on Pouille's serve until five minutes ago, but now he is all over it. That's another break, and Fed has now won four games in a row.

    Evans 5-3 Sousa*

Miscue off the backhand from Joao Sousa after trying to encroach on Dan Evans' second serve. The Brit skips across the net to meet a hanging ball and jabs it home to hold.

Fed speeds through this one, and attention is quickly back on the Pouille serve. Whatever is going on in his head, he needs to focus here.

    Evans 4-2 Sousa*

Good hustle from Sousa. He recovers to advantage but then paddles a forehand long.

The world number 69 leaps into a winner on his favourite side, but again struggles to close out. That's deuce.

  13. 'Federer raising his game'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Federer 7-5 0-0 Pouille

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Federer raised his game just when he needed to. He threatened the Pouille serve at the right time.

The great ones rise to the occasion. Pouille shouldn't be downhearted, he has played well.

  14. Game and first set Federerpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Federer 7-5 0-0 Pouille

Uh-oh. In the blink of an eye, Federer takes a big step towards his 350th Grand Slam singles win.

One brilliantly-constructed Federer point, and two loose backhands from Pouille and the Swiss has two set-points. He takes the second one, when the Frenchman finds a tramline and all of Pouille's good work is for nothing.

"He has played well, he shouldn't be too downhearted," is Boris Becker's verdict in the BBC commentary box. "Federer had to play his very best tennis to win that set."

    Evans 4-2 Sousa*

Brilliant. A slice backhand to drag Joao Sousa in and then a thumping backhand down the line to win the point from Dan Evans.

And now the British number three is cooking. Sousa comes dashing in again, Evans is so far behind the baseline he's almost playing a forehand from Buckingham Palace but he zings it past the Portuguese to bring up break point.

  20. Fed has to fight to save servepublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Federer 6-5 *Pouille

Pouille is giving this one a good old go and he is having some joy, bringing more mistakes from Fed, and earning another break-point and some mutterings of disbelief from the Centre Court crowd.... who are in for a treat on the next point.

Fed saves it, but what a point it was, with Pouille getting two smashes back and darting unsuccessfully after a third. "That has to make the highlights show," says Boris - he's right you know.

Fed holds, but he is having to fight a lot harder than expected here.
