    *Tsonga 1-4 Nadal

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Tsonga doesn't look like he has the belief or the game. He's out there right now and needs to intensify mentally.

And the Spaniard's preparations have begun right away with an ice bath.

  3. Konta holdspublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Stephens 3-3 Konta

Johanna Konta blunderbuss serve lands twice in succession to leave Sloane Stephens taking on water at 40-0 down.

The Briton tries out the drop-shot. She is 'Oh and Two' from that tactic so far though. Stephens, one of the quickest players around the court on Tour, runs it down and pokes a winner past the advancing Konta.

    No matter.

Connectivity goes down on the Croatians' side of the net as they lose communication on that break point.

Skugor calls for the looping return, rather ambitiously even for a man standing 6ft 6in, stretching and missing as Mektic tries to sweep up the mess behind him.

Mektic sees the funny side. Skugor doesn't.

  5. Nadal breakspublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Tsonga 1-3 Nadal*

You know that Spider-Man meme where both Spider-Men (?) point at each other.

This is the issue doing the live text on this pair - they both look quite similar from a distance.

Anyway, Nadal has break point. It's definitely Nadal.

Tsonga goes wide with forehand, The Frenchman challenges but the graphics point out that it was out by a quarter of an inch. A FULL QUARTER.

    Nadal breaks.

  6. Herbert & Murray holdpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 3-3 Mektic/Skugor*

Well... what a point. A Herbert smash leaps up over Skugor but Mektic is there to return, however with both Croatians behind the baseline Murray can just dab it over the net to bring up deuce. Murray then fakes to smash on the next point before tickling in a drop shot to hold.

    Stephens 3-2 *Konta

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Two

Sloane Stephens has a very beautiful, effortless service motion.

There's not a lot of tension in the way she hits the ball.

  8. Stephens holdspublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Stephens 3-2 *Konta

I don't think you could place the ball more precisely if you walked down onto court and put them down with your hand.

Sloane Stephens' forehand is just relentlessly, remorselessly accurate, getting Konta running fruitless shuttles from side to side as the Briton slips 40-0 down.

    No redeeming that deficit.

Another hold for Stephens and still no real clues as who is going to emerge from this one.

    *Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 2-3 Mektic/Skugor

Ah, wow. That is a magical top-spin lob from Franko Skugor to bring up break point - Murray and Herbert stranded at the net.

  10. Konta holdspublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Stephens 2-2 Konta

Johanna Konta comes under pressure here as she gets stretched out of shape by a zippy Sloane Stephens forehand and has a look at a 30-30 scoreline.

Her second serve is called out. But reprieved by a HawkEye review that shows she has clipped a sniff of the centre line.

Seeing a possible break point whipped away from under her nose seems to have thrown Sloane Stephens who lets Konta off the hook and to a hold.

    *Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 2-3 Mektic/Skugor

Well, Nikola Mektic and Franko Skugor have done superbly well to escape that service game with a hold after facing two break points.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert scoffs down a banana in the break, Andy Murray fires instructions at him intensely as he digests.

  12. Postpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Tsonga 1-2 Nadal

Nadal finds the line on two points - superb accuracy - helped in the third point of the game by Tsonga's slip.

Everybody holds their breath, but the big man is OK.

30-15 before Nadal holds with a superb dipping forehand that sees Tsonga once again stumble in trying to reach the ball.

TJ: Murray on the baseline and Herbert at the net are a mad combination

  15. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 2-2 Mektic/Skugor*

What a save from Skugor! He was sent dancing out wide by Murray but managed to stick strings on a thumping backhand and fire it between his opponents from outside the tramlines.

    Deuce.

  16. Postpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 2-2 Mektic/Skugor*

Now Murray wrong-foots both Croatians on the other side of the net to sizzle down a winner on his forehand side - two break points.

  17. Stephens holdspublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Stephens 2-1 *Konta

More glimmers of hope for Johanna Konta as Sloane Stephens leaves one in the net to offer up 30-30.

Konta shoots for the moon as she twangs a forehand return into the top of the net on the next point.

And the Briton is long over the back in the next rally. No breakthrough just yet, but Konta has been doing most of the pickaxing in search for a some break-of-serve black gold.

    Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 2-2 Mektic/Skugor*

A stretching one-handed return winner from Murray and that's 0-30 - big chance for the French-Scottish pairing to break.

  19. Murray holdspublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    Murray/Herbert 7-6 (7-4) 2-2 Mektic/Skugor*

No messing from the master. Andy Murray polishes off his service game with an ace to hold to love.

  20. Konta holdspublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 6 July 2019

    *Stephens 1-1 Konta

Johanna Konta finishes off her opening serve game with a crackerjack serve out wide.

Sloane Stephens lunges to try and get something, like someone leaning out of a moving car window to steal a drink from a waiter's tray. But she gets nothing on it.

    Level pegs.
