  1. Jarry breakspublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 0-2 Jarry*

Rumours of Nicolas Jarry's demise were premature.

He was aided there, in fairness, by two double faults from Carlos Alcaraz but the Chilean gets his rewards for sticking in there as the world number one sends a forehand wide and long to hand over the break.

  2. 'Biggest match Jarry will have played'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    *Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 0-1 Jarry

    Simon Reed
    BBC Sport commentator

This will feel like the biggest match Jarry has ever played. He got to the fourth round at Roland Garros. But to play the world number one is something else.

    *Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 0-1 Jarry

Quiet start to set four as Nicolas Jarry holds comfortably - but then Carlos Alcaraz double faults and sends a backhand lazily wide to give the Chilean hope at 15-30.

  4. Djere consolidates break against Tsitsipaspublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

OK looks like we’re fine to continue.

The weather today is truly very odd. It’s so hot and humid but the air feels thick as though a storm could just break at any moment.

    For now, we play on.

Over on Court One, second seed Aryna Sabalenka has walked out with Anna Blinkova for their match. Only a smattering of people in their seats at the moment, but a lot of queues outside for food, drink and the toilets. Three minutes to get back inside for the start!

    Tsitsipas 6-4 0-1 Djere*

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Tsitsipas is sort of doing an impression of an ice skater right now across the turf, testing to see if it’s dry enough to play on.

We get back underway long enough for Djere to get a game on the board but it looks like Tsitsipas is complaining that the grass is actually quite slippy.

The crowd don’t like that and boos ring round court two.

    Tsitsipas 6-4 0-1 Djere*

Back under way on court two, although Stefanos Tsitsipas isn't too happy about it.

The Greek has a few complaints that the grass isn't quite ready, but Laslo Djere is straight down to business and clinches a break of serve immediately in the second set.

Tsitsipas complains to the umpire, which doesn't go down too well with the crowd.

  8. 'Very, very tough match' - Medvedevpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Medvedev 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 Fucsovics

Daniil Medvedev on his match against Marton Fucsovics:

"It was a very, very tough match. Three hours. I mean Marton plays well on grass. He was in quarters here in Wimbledon and I haven't yet so very tough, tough player to play against. I'm happy that after the first set I managed to just be a little bit more decisive in some points and I saved a couple of break points on my serve in the match. It was a very tough match and I'm happy to be through."

Daniil Medvedev on his record at Wimbledon:

"I mean I really want to do well here. I was not playing last year and so far it's my worst Grand Slam in terms of results. Even Roland Garros I managed to get into the quarters so I have big motivation to try to change it but the further you go the tougher the opponents, so I hope I can just show my best tennis."

Daniil Medvedev on the Wimbledon crowd:

"Honestly what I love about the Wimbledon crowd, they always go for the one who is losing or they want to see five sets... I think it's fun to be supporting the one that is a little bit down in the match, to try to get him up. It's tough for the one who is winning but it's quite fair so I like it."

  9. A long way back for Jarrypublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 Jarry

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

A punch of the air, a raised fist towards his box and a warm round of applause from the crowd as Carlos Alcaraz moves one set away from matching his best run at Wimbledon and reaching the last 16.

We're at 2-1 to Alcaraz after two hours 48 minutes of high-quality action, but it's a long way back now for the 25th seed.

  10. 'Big man from Chile getting a little weary'published at 16:30 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 Jarry*

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Jarry has had moments where he has taken control of the games, but maybe the big man from Chile is getting a little weary.

He's new to these occasions and that can stress you out sometimes.

  11. 'Fraying a little now for Jarry'published at 16:28 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 Jarry*

    Simon Reed
    BBC Sport commentator

It is just fraying a little now from Jarry, and that is enough for the world number one to take advantage.

  12. Waiting for the grass to dry...published at 16:28 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Tsitsipas 6-4 Djere

Strange scenes on some of the outside courts currently, including court two.

It looks sunny above SW19, but we've had that brief shower and the umpire is wandering around the grass, checking whether it is yet dry enough for play to resume.

There are shouts from the crowd calling for the players to crack on.

Stefanos Tsitsipas watches on from his chair, waiting patiently.

  13. Game and third set - Alcarazpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 Jarry*

A misjudged drop shot wastes the first set point but Jarry's return from the second is long and Carlos Alcaraz regains the advantage in this third-round encounter, leading by two sets to one.

  14. Three set points Alcarazpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    *Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 5-3 Jarry

Nicolas Jarry loses another challenge and he's all out of them now for this third set.

But that won't matter as it's not going to last much longer, Alcaraz moving 40-0 up on serve.

Three set points for the world number one.

    Blinkova v Sabalenka

There's rain falling over some parts of Wimbledon, some parts look pretty sunny but Court One has a roof so play continues as normal there.

Up next is second seed Aryna Sabalenka against world number 40 Anna Blinkova, with that match scheduled to start at 16:29 BST.

    Djere 4-6 0-0 Tsitsipas

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

The rain has started, the brollies are up, but the players are still on court.

The umpire has said he’s hoping the shower will pass and we can get back underway shortly.

But the longer we wait, the wetter the grass gets…

    *Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 5-3 Jarry

Wow. Then two more aces to make it three in a row.

Carlos Alcaraz will have to serve out the set to move ahead in this match.

  18. Set point saved by Jarrypublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 5-2 Jarry*

Carlos Alcaraz likes to roll out the shots to entertain the crowd but a tweener lob attempt from near the back of the court proves beyond even him as an exchange at the net ultimately goes in Nicolas Jarry's favour.

However, Alcaraz prevails in the next cat-and-mouse rally and when a Jarry forehand goes long, it's set point to the Spaniard.

Saved by a crunching ace out wide.

  19. Game and second set - Davidovich Fokinapublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Rune 6-3 4-6 Davidovich Fokina

Holger Rune isn't having it all his own way against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The sixth seed concedes the second set 6-4, losing serve for a second time after levelling the set at 3-3.

There's a brief pause as rain begins to fall.

It looks like it's just a shower and hopefully won't cause too much disruption...

  20. Postpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 5-2 Jarry*

    Simon Reed
    BBC Sport commentator

Jarry's form hasn't fallen off a cliff but it's not as it was the last two sets. Errors that we hardly saw for the first two hours or so are now starting to creep in.
