    Ollie Williams
BBC Sport at the Iceberg Skating Palace

"The information system here in the Iceberg only shows six names at a time, so I entirely overlooked starter number seven in this final: world number one Lee Han-bin of South Korea. Which goes to emphasise the point: Jack Whelbourne will never race in a tougher line-up.

"Top five would be an exceptional achievement. A medal would be the race of his life."

    Ollie Williams
BBC Sport at the Iceberg Skating Palace

"Somebody just told me Jack Whelbourne should use the "Steven Bradbury strategy" in his final. Bradbury, you may recall, was the Australian who won gold in 2006 when all other skaters collided and fell at the last corner.

"I'm not sure Whelbourne necessarily does need that strategy but there's certainly a chance of a repeat. This is a stacked final - Charles Hamelin (Can) and Viktor Ahn (Rus) the favourites in my book, JR Celski of the US not far behind, two strong Chinese athletes - and it could be chaos on that last bend. If Whelbourne can stay in touch, he has a shot at a medal."
