    GB snowboarder Zoe Gillings will compete in the cross later this morning. But who is she? Here are some facts about her

    • The 28-year-old from the Isle of Man took up snowboarding when she was ten

    • She took her first World Cup gold aged 19 and was ranked world number 1 for most of 2004-05.

    • Her career nearly ended in 2005 when she shattered all the bones in her left foot by jumping over a car during a photoshoot. Doctors told her she would be lucky to walk again let alone board.

    "GB's Zoe Gillings secures the 14th quickest time in the second round of seedings. She will go in the third of four quarter-finals and needs a top-three finish in order to reach the semi-finals.

    Twitter has released some statistics on the social media talking points of Saturday.

    During Saturday's USA v Russia men's ice hockey game there were over 900,000 tweets sent about the game.

    USA forward T.J. Oshie achieved over 136,000 mentions on Twitter during the same time frame, with the winning moment attracting an incredible 72,630 tweets per minute. Unsurprisingly, ice hockey was the most talked about sport of the day, ahead of curling and figure skating.

    Russian president Vladimir Putin has visited ski-cross racer Maria Komissarova in hospital after she underwent a six-hour operation on her fractured spine following a training accident.

    The 23-year-old Komissarova was practicing for next Friday's contest when she fell while exiting the third jump and is having treatment in the nearby resort of Krasnaya Polyana.

    Great Britain's Zoe Gillings will be going in the third of the quarter-finals in the women's snowboard cross, which get underway at 09:15 GMT.

    Gillings qualified 14th from the two seeding runs and goes up against Canada's Dominique Maltais, Japan's Yuka Fujimori, Alexandra Jekova of Bulgaria, Italy's Raffaella Brutto and Bell Berghuis of the Netherlands with the top three to advance to the semi-finals.

    We have two matches in ice hockey going on at the moment. In the women's event, Finland lead Germany 2-0 in the first period after goals from Jenni Hiirikoski and Michelle Karvinen, although both nations' hopes of winning a medal have already ended.

    In the men's competition, two goals in the opening seven minutes, one apiece from Michael Raffl and Michael Grabber, has given Austria a 2-0 advantage over Norway. Both sides are aiming for a victory after losing their opening two matches.

    Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold is planning to visit schools in the coming months with the aim of inspiring the next generation of stars.

    Yarnold, 25, won Team GB's first gold of the Sochi Games, and Britain's 10th ever in Winter Olympics, on Friday.

    "I want to inspire in the way that I was inspired by [heptathlete] Denise Lewis when I was younger," she told BBC Sport. "It's a real honour to be in a position now where young girls and hopefully boys as well may look up to me."

    "An emotional Bode Miller was in tears after it became clear he would clinch super-G bronze in Sochi.

    "The colourful American, who won his sixth Olympic medal, suffered the shock death of his brother Chelone in April and is embroiled in a custody battle for his son.

    "It's not so much about the skiing, it's about everything else," said Miller afterwards. "It's been a hard year. I feel really lucky to have come out with a medal. I skied hard but it wasn't about that, it came down to luck. I'm very fortunate. I'm just really happy to have got on the right side of the numbers."

    "Bode Miller, 36, is the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic medal and becomes the joint second most successful US Winter Olympian alongside short-track speed skater Bonnie Blair, with another short-track star Apolo Ohno leading on eight medals.

    "Jan Hudec is the first Canadian to win an alpine skiing medal for 20 years, equalling Ed Podivinsky's bronze in downhill in 1994.

    "Norway have won the last four Olympic men's super-Gs with Jansrud winning today, which follows Kjetil Andre Aamodt's successes in 2002 and 2006 and Aksel Lund Svindal's win in 2010.

    Eva Samkova of Czech Republic, who was second at last month's X Games, leads the standings having completed the course some 4.11 seconds quicker than Gillings.

    Britain lost 7-6 to Norway in today's curling and need to beat China on Monday to advance into the semi-finals.

    David Murdoch, British skip, tells BBC Sport: "We settled very well and put them under pressure. It was a game of missed opportunities for us and we had some good chances. It's disappointing and it was a really good chance for us to get into the semi-finals.

    "For us the match against China is like a final for us. If we win, we're in, if we lose, we are out. It's do or die time. These guys are technically excellent but if we play our 'A' game we can certainly beat them."
