Japan's Daiki Hashimoto has fallen off the pommel horse.

Is that his chance of defending his title over? It could be as he has only scored 12.966.

  5. Who is Jessica Fox?published at 17:11 British Summer Time 31 July

Can we claim a third of Jessica Fox's canoe slalom gold medal?

The Aussie great who has just won her third canoe slalom Olympic gold medal was born in France, has a British father and was brought up in Australia.

"I'm a bit of the three. I was born in France so I have my roots there but also in England," she said. "I've pretty much grown up in Australia so I guess I'm a bit more Australian but I like to think that I have all three in me."

Her father, Richard Fox, represented Great Britain at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, finishing fourth in K1 slalom, missing the podium by 0.33 seconds. He was a 10-time world championship gold medallist from 1979 to 1993.

Her mother competed in canoe slalom at the Olympics for France in 1992 and 1996.

She broke her arm in 2005 doing gymnastics, which she subsequently gave up to focus on canoeing.

A wise career choice. Anyway, can we claim a third of a medal?

Brazilian superstar footballer Marta has been sent off in her country's vital Group C match against Spain.

The 38-year-old, named as the world female player of the year on six occasions, was shown a straight red card for a horrendous, high, leaping challenge that saw her catch Olga Carmona in the head with her boot.

Marta, who has made more than 200 international appearances, was in tears as she left the pitch. In April, she had announced this would be her last international career and unless Brazil progress deep through the competition, this could be how she exits international football.

It is 0-0 at half-time, with Spain set to go through as group winners. If it stays a draw, Brazil will be hoping to advance as one of the best two third-placed teams. In the other match in Group C, Japan lead 3-1 against Nigeria.

The defending champion is delighted with that, and rightly so! The crowd went wild when the time was shown on the big screen. That is how you do it!

Oh my. 99.06 seconds for Jessica Fox and the Team Australia canoeist, who was born in Marseille, has flown into the gold medal position.

Fox is handed a two-second penalty and finishes with an overall time 101.06 seconds. That's still enough for top spot.

    That was a remarkable paddle.

What's the difference between a canoe and a kayak?published at 16:59 British Summer Time 31 July

    Women's canoe single final

Canoe sprint, which made its Olympic debut in 1936, is held on flatwater and features head-to-head sprint races over 200m, 500m and 1,000m distances in boats of one, two or four athletes.

This discipline includes events raced in canoe (C) and kayak (K) boats.

Canoeists kneel in a boat and use a single-blade paddle on one side at a time, while kayakers race in a seated position using a double-bladed paddle.

Oh gosh, top qualifier and one of the gold medal favourites Zhang Boheng of China has had a shocker on floor. A couple of shaky landing but then one where he lands and plants his head on the floor. This could be very costly for him although he does have better pieces to come.

He will be disappointed with his score of 13.233.
