Did I tell you this was fast and furious? Not half.

Moments after the women’s quarter-finals, we get stuck into the men’s.

GB’s Joe Clarke goes in the first race as he looks for Olympic redemption.

He was overlooked for Tokyo 2020 but is a three-time world champion.

A tight tussle with Spain’s Manual Ochoa ends in him being disqualified as Clarke takes first place.

Absolutely beautiful dive and precision from Andrea. Accuracy and athleticism. Pops up into the pike shape, spots the water, locks up into the tuck and spots out cleanly into the water. Three out of three. Very nice indeed.

Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix's forward three-and-a-half somersaults in the pike position scores her 72.000 while Lois Toulson makes a big splash on her armstand back double somersault one-and-a-half twists and she's got some work to do here.

After three rounds Spendolini-Sirieix sits third while Toulson is 16th.

The top 12 will advance so Toulson needs a couple of good dives here.

It's a sport with catastrophe near any upstream gate and it's wonderfully exciting.

The crowds have been astonishing there was 15,000 yesterday, they were making a noise which we have never heard before at a slalom event.

Good news for Great Britain… Kimberley Woods is through to the semi-finals!

Woods, the reigning world champion, hits the front early, allowing her to bob and weave to victory with everyone else chaotically flailing behind her.

Next up it’s Mallory Franklin. Can she join her team-mate?

Franklin is second halfway down as the French roar on their athlete Angle Hug, but the Brit hits trouble and is out because of a fault.

Medal hopes for Team GB all rest with Woods.

Another super dive from Andrea Spenolini-Sirieix - inward three-and-a-half somersaults - scores her 76.80. Exactly the same score she received for her first dive.

Consistency is key in this game and she sits in second place after two rounds of diving.

Lois Toulson's reverse two-and-a-half somersaults received 50.80 and that leaves her 14th for now.

    Drama in the last moment!

If there was an inquiry or a question mark on a gymnast doing a certain skill judges will watch the replays back.

However, judges cannot watch it back to judge execution, they can only work out what the difficulty of the routine was by watching it back.

The kayak cross starts with the women’s quarter-finals, with the Brits going in the third and fourth races.

Madness out here. Electronic beats are pumping out of a bass-heavy sound system, the crowd are partying like they’re in Ibiza.

It’s as hot as the Med, too. One journalist near me is using his laptop wallet as head protector from the sun.

    Canoe Slalom - Kayak cross

    Jonathan Jurejko
BBC Sport at Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium

OK, I know what most of you are thinking... what the heck is kayak cross? (With deepest apologies to the aficionados among you.)

    In short, it's organised chaos.

Four paddlers jostle for position as they pass through a series of gates on a course featuring downstream and upstream.

They start from a raised ramp and are released into the water from a height of around two metres.

There is a kayak roll/eskimo roll zone and barrier, where the competitor must perform a sideways 360˚ roll.

The targeted run time is 45-80 seconds.

Oh, and contact between the paddlers - within reason - is allowed.

Simone Biles had to go all out on the difficulty and the power, because Rebeca Andrade performed before her and set the tone.

But that meant she stepped a couple of times out of the area, going for the glory, and those deductions cost her.

Biles has said a few times that she has felt the pressure from Rebeca Andrade and there is no disputing that is a thoroughly-deserved gold medal after a fabulous performance. Only Biles' generational brilliance deprived her of the triumph previously in the Games.

Having those two on top of the podium in the final gymnastics event of the Olympics is very fitting. They have lit up the Bercy Arena throughout.
