Three lads that I went to school with are competing in the games and are all set to win medals. Dan Bigham (Team Pursuit) and Adam Burgess (Kayak) were in the same year whilst Joe Clarke (Kayak) was in the year below. This puts Alleynes Academy in Stone, Staffs in the top 50 of the medal table, and inside the top 30 if the Team Pursuit win today. Not bad for a small Midlands market town. Are there any other schools/year groups with such success??

"It's been really hard with us at the end of the championships, but I'm just blessed to be here and I'm happy that I'm healthy, so I'm very excited and I know there's a lot in store.

"Honestly, I think I'm ready for a medal. I definitely feel capable. I need to put some parts of my race together but with god's grace, I'll be alright."

Team GB's Cindy Sember makes a shaky start in lane nine, but recovers to finish second in her heat to qualify for the semi-finals.

Defending Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico led from start to finish and could even afford to ease up before crossing the line.

Poland's Pia Skrzyszowska takes third and the final qualification spot.

The top three from each of the five heats, plus the next three fastest, qualify for the semi-finals. The rest go into the repechage.

A brilliant anchor leg from Maria Perez sees Spain surge to victory, much to the delight of the hundreds of Spain fans who have lined the streets of Paris.

Perez clocks 45:51 to finish a mammoth 51 seconds clear of the field. She is soon joined by team-mate Alvaro Martin by the finish line and draped in the Spain flag.

Glenda Morejon holds on to second to seal silver for Ecuador. Jemima Montag of Australia very nearly chased her down, but has to be content with bronze.

One round in, and Britain's Jack Laugher is at the top of the tree with 86.70 points, with Jordan Houlden fifth.

Tom Daley is here in the crowd with his latest knitting project, as is Lois Toulson, who won bronze in the women's synchro 10m platform alongside Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix. Toluson is also Laugher's partner.

Meanwhile, one of the divers, to keep himself occupied between divers, is completing a Rubik's Cube. It's one way to get out the nervous energy...

You may see some of the divers popping into a hot tub or taking a shower after they've completed their dive.

There's a really simple reason why - the warm water helps keep their muscles loose and relaxed between dives, avoiding any cramping that could potentially impact their medal prospects.

One of the moments of the Tokyo Games was Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy sharing the men's high jump gold. They are both in contention as the 2024 competition begins.

A medal in Paris would be Barshim’s fourth in as many Games, while Tamberi has already lost some precious metal in Paris – his wedding ring ended up in the Seine at the Opening Ceremony. It’s got worse since – four days ago he was taken to hospital with kidney stones.

Surely he is due a change of luck?

I quite like that the divers are introduced like boxers as they walk out.

The biggest cheers, unsurprisingly, are for the two Frenchmen - Gwendal Bisch and Jules Bouyer. The tricolore flags are being waved and feet are being stamped as the divers are introduced to the crowds, before heading over to the boards.

The men's high jump qualifiers is the first competition to start, followed by the women’s 100m hurdles first round (09:15 BST).

Cindy Sember is the only Team GB athlete involved. The 30-year-old reached all three major finals in 2022 and is not far off her best form this year, clocking 12.56 sec in June at the European Championships.

She’s up against defending Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico in heat two.

Team GB have done so well to have a full team in lead and bouldering. Toby Roberts is in third-place and he did say 'he was disappointed' in his climbing which is very Toby.

Roberts is not a specialist in either discipline as he is so good in both. Hamish McArthur finished in eighth and that was a good finish from him.

The climbing will begin at 09:00 BST with athletes completing the lead this morning, the top eight climbers from the semi-final will qualify for the final.

Team GB's 16-year-old, Sky Brown is now a two-time Olympic medallist after claiming another bronze medal in the women's park final.

After having an injury scare before flying to Paris, it would be unsure whether she would claim a medal.

Sky, told BBC radio 5 Live: "When I dislocated [my shoulder] I was definitely scared. Being able to be on the podium after that scary moment was definitely crazy."

Throughout the event a fantastic camaraderie was on show between all the athletes, "We all want the gold, but we all want each other to make their runs and show what they are capable of," added, Sky.

"We want to go skateboarding together and we want to push the sport – this is our sport and we want to show the world. Skating is one big family."
