Emma Navarro is furious with herself after firing that forehand long on break point.

She spins round on her heels and punches the air in frustration.

"Come on Emma, keep going, keep going," I can just about hear her box say.

Emma Navarro was blown away after being broken in the first set, she's determined to make sure there is no repeat of that in the second.

The American earns another break point but Jasmine Paolini comes out on top after another long rally.

From there, Paolini is able to close it out again. She's two games from the semi-final.

We're lucky to have Carlos Alcaraz. The timing couldn't be better considering Roger Federer isn't around, Rafael Nadal I think is going to call it quits some time this year, Novak Djokovic we're not sure but he looked great last night so he might be around for a couple of years but we need that new breed.

Carlos Alcaraz gives Tommy Paul a big hug at the net. A lot of mutual respect between the pair after a spellbinding match on Court One.

Alcaraz will play Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, of course.

Defending champion Alcaraz seals victory over Paul and reaches semi-finals

Tommy Paul overhits a return and Carlos Alcaraz clinches it at the first time of asking.

Alcaraz was given a stern test of his resilience as well as his technique by Paul, but the defending champion showed his mettle and ability on Court One.

He got better as the match wore on.

A deserved victory in the end for the Spaniard.

Centre Court is oohing and ahhing after every Jasmine Paolini winner, a few fans are even greeting her points with a warm chuckle.

It's as if they're saying "my goodness Jasmine how on earth did you just pull off that point, that's unbelievable, I can't even comprehend it," but all in one short breath.

These reactions are happening more and more often now too.

    *Paolini 6-2 3-1 Navarro

Jasmine Paolini gets the first break of the second set.

She showed brilliant defence early in the game and the moment she had Emma Navarro slightly unsettled, she struck with a powerful forehand deep into the corner.

Navarro is able to save the first of two break points but gifts it to Paolini with the second.

A backhand under no pressure goes long. An unforced error at a critical time.

Tommy Paul hits a brilliant return but somehow Carlos Alcaraz wrong-foots him. 15-0. The Spaniard then hits a stunning passing shot right to the back of the court. 30 love.

It was six games in a row for Jasmine Paolini and when Navarro was able to stop that run her entire box were on their feet, clapping and giving her that encouragements.

It was hugely important for Navarro to get back to evens at the beginning of the second set.

A powerful service game to love from Carlos Alcaraz puts him just one game away from the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Tommy Paul seems to be running on empty now.

    Paolini 6-2 2-1 Navarro*

Emma Navarro moves in to attack the second serve and slaps it down the line for a winner.

That brings up break point but she can't convert it. Another thumping return, a cross-court forehand this time, brings up another but again she finds the net.

Jasmine Paolini grinds it out from there but that was a much more encouraging game for Navarro.

It is tough times for Tommy Paul, when your opponent is playing that well.

You’ve been out on court for three hours at this point. Do you have the energy, do you have the belief, can you summon it against this guy?

  16. Alcaraz breaks againpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 9 July

    *Alcaraz 5-7 6-4 6-2 4-1 Paul

Tommy Paul saves a break point, but a brilliant passing backhand from Carlos Alcaraz down the line gives the Spaniard a second chance.

He takes it thanks to a teasing sliced backhand which Paul can only pop between the tram lines.

A second break and Alcaraz is edging closer to the Wimbledon semi-finals.

    Emma Navarro stops the rot.

The 19th seed holds to 15, just to check Jasmine Paolini's momentum.

Despite the Italian seemingly bossing things, this is a new set and it's still on serve.

Body language is something we talk about often and I have to say Emma Navarro's is still pretty positive.

She's on her toes, quick to return to her mark after every point.

Three games is all Carlos Alcaraz needs now. He tells the Court One crowd that he can't hear them, which is quite something considering how loud they have been all match.

Paul two sets to one down and 3-1 down in the fourth needs an escape act like no other.

  20. Paolini holdspublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 9 July

    Paolini 6-2 1-0 Navarro*

Make that six games in a row for Jasmine Paolini.

Her confidence is sky-high and Emma Navarro can't get close to troubling her at the moment.

The American did manage to gain the upper hand in one rally, winning her only point of the game as a result, but there have been nowhere near enough of those points for Navarro.
