Autumn is beginning to show its first signs, as rain moved across the West Country this week.

Meanwhile, the apple harvest for Somerset's famous cider has begun and boat races took place over the bank holiday.

Grey skies: Following a very sunny summer, it seems autumn is beginning to move into Somerset. People still took to the beach in Weston-super-Mare, braving the rain.

Cricket match: Tom Lammonby of Somerset was captured playing a shot during the Men's Metro Bank One Day Cup match between Somerset and Northamptonshire Steelbacks on 26 August.

Shrinking lake: Low water levels and the parched lake bed is exposed in this image of Chew Valley Lake, where Bristol Water is reporting water stocks at 44% compared to 73% last year.

Paddling along: Bank holiday Monday saw the annual Wells Moat Boat Race around the waters of the Bishop's Palace moat. As usual, plenty of ingenious home-made craft were on show for the spectators.

Cider harvest: Thatchers held a pop-up event at Cheddar Gorge, as the cider maker begins its earliest harvest in 121 years.

Before the rain: These bright blooms in the centre of Glastonbury were kept looking their best by some careful watering on the hot days. This week nature's own watering can took over.

Feeding strawberries: Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey took part in strawberry picking with Tessa Munt, the MP for Wells & Mendip Hills, at Warren's Farm Shop in Draycott, near Cheddar.
