Truro City have signed former Torquay, Chesterfield and Stockport striker Martin Gritton on a non-contract basis.

The 33-year-old, who was released by Stockport last week, grew up in Cornwall before joining Plymouth Argyle in 1998.

He goes straight into the squad for Tuesday's clash with Basingstoke.

Truro are under a transfer embargo but have been allowed to sign Gritton as boss Lee Hodges is injured and the club must have a squad of 16 players.

"We're fortunate enough that Martin was released and we've managed to get it done very quickly," Hodges told BBC South West.

"If I do become fit and we're not out of the transfer embargo he may have to be released, but if I'm not fit then he can stay and the aim then would be to keep him to the end of the season.

"It'll bring a massive lift, it's a fresh face and with him being a local lad he knows a few of the boys from the past and he brings a different dimension to the team I don't already have."

Gritton has played more than 350 games in his professional career, scoring 71 goals.
