  1. 'We've shown real character'published at 22:22 British Summer Time

    FT: Plymouth 3-1 Luton

Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney speaking to Sky Sports: "We were underestimated at the start of the season before we kicked a ball and then especially after the first game.

"But I think we've shown real character, we've shown the type of team we want to be, we're getting the ball forward and creating chances.

"It's a big win for us tonight against a good Luton team. It's a big win for a lot of our young players.

"I was delighted for the lads tonight, delighted for the fans - great atmosphere again, so a great start to the weekend."

Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney said he told Ibrahim Cissoko he was going to come on and win the game for them.

Rooney told Sky Sports: "He's a fantastic player and he showed his ability tonight when he came on. It wasn't so easy telling him he wasn't playing.

"I felt late on in the game, I said to him yesterday 'just trust in me, you're going to come on and win us the game'. It's always great as a manager when that happens and it shows to be true.

"He'll get all the glory but I think especially the defensive side of it tonight, we were under a bit of pressure second-half and on set-pieces, Luton are a real threat.

"Two different halves of football but we showed fight and character and I'm delighted with that."

    Plymouth 3-1 Luton

It's a fantastic win for Plymouth and lifts them up to 13th in the Championship table ahead of Saturday's fixtures.

For Luton, though, they're now down in 16th and that could end up looking even worse by 17:00 tomorrow.

Ibrahim Cissoko said Plymouth played the type of football he "loves" against Luton tonight.

On what Wayne Rooney said to him when he brought him, Cissoko told Sky Sports: "Same as what he said always to do. Try to shoot, try to make something positive and I did that tonight."

On Plymouth's style of play this evening, he said: "I love that, make the action, shoot, score goals. That's the football I love."

On his goals: "First Darko gets the ball in midfield, great transition and one v one, I'm deadly, I know that. So I come in and bury it."

Cissoko added: "I've got more goals and more celebrations to come."

  6. 'We've got some exciting players'published at 22:04 British Summer Time

    Plymouth 3-1 Luton

Plymouth's Joe Edwards on Sky Sports:

"We saw tonight what Wayne wants the team to do. At times we played some great stuff.

"We've got some exciting players here, they've still got things to learn but we've seen tonight what they can do.

"We had a tough year last year and managed to survive, we want to go a step further now and I think we've got the players and manager here to do that."

To the tune of Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' Ciss-o-ko is belted out across Home Park.

The Dutch winger has done the business for Argyle, but that scoreline does not reflect a game that Luton could have easily got a point from had their finishing been better.

Wayne Rooney will feel his side are up and running now though.

  8. 'It's disappointing again'published at 22:00 British Summer Time

    Plymouth 3-1 Luton

    Geoff Doyle
Luton commentator on BBC Three Counties Radio

Luton are going to have to find some solutions.

They had a lot of corners and a few chances but the best ones fell to Plymouth.

It's a long trip back for the fans and there'll be no third successive win.

There was a real feelgood factor tonight - I know it's easy to say that when you've won.

The shape of the team worked and we saw that fight and character.

Back-to-back home wins for Plymouth, against Sunderland and now Luton. Six goals scored. Things are looking up for Wayne Rooney and Plymouth Argyle.

Rami Al Hajj's early opener set them on their way and Ibrahim Cissoko came off the bench to grab a double, either side of Victor Moses briefly giving Luton hope.

Home Park is a fortress once again and they celebrate their first win at home to Luton since November 2006.

    What a humdinger that was!

  11. 'Game over'published at 21:55 British Summer Time

    Chris Hargreaves

    Absolutely brilliant.

Lewis Gibson puts in two great tackles and it's a bit of magic from Cissoko in the box - he's reversed it into the net - game over!

GOAL Plymouth 3-1 Lutonpublished at 21:53 British Summer Time

    Ibrahim Cissoko (90+3 mins)

    Game over NOW?

Two for the substitute at the Devonport End and that should be that.

It's a mesmerising run from Ibrahim Cissoko who shows wonderful feet to jink in from the left of the area between two defenders.

His fierce right-footed shot deserved a goal but was blocked back to him to then roll the ball past the wrong-footed Mark McGuinness and keeper Thomas Kaminski and into the bottom corner to start the Plymouth party.

    Plymouth 2-1 Luton

Joe Taylor has the ball in the net for Luton from a low cross from Victor Moses but the flag had long since been up.

Shame for the Hatters as that was a lovely flowing move.

    Plymouth 2-1 Luton

Luton keeper Thomas Kaminski has his palms warmed by a rasping drive from Adam Forshaw.

It's Plymouth who are finishing the stronger.

Jordan Clarke also had his name taken by referee John Busby during that earlier exchange.

Seven minutes will be added. Plenty of time for more drama... you can imagine how the Green Army reacted to that announcement.

  15. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 88 mins

    Plymouth 2-1 Luton

Adam Randell nearly put an exclamation mark on this game with a thunderous strike from distance which swerved through the air past Thomas Kaminski before rattling the crossbar.

Ibrahim Cissoko can only fire the recycled ball wide.

It's still wobbling now, I expect.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 87 mins

Reece Burke has picked up a caution, for kicking the ball away or back-chat, one or the other.

Luton's frustrating start to life back in the Championship continues.

    Plymouth 2-1 Luton

Plymouth sub Muhamed Tijani is a unit and is already putting himself about, winning a free-kick in a dangerous area, though he's unable to get on the end of it when it is swung into the box.

Plymouth won't mind the ball being 90 yards from their goal, however.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 83 mins

    Plymouth 2-1 Luton

Ibrahim Cissoko wins a useful free-kick on the flank which sees Reuell Walters have his name taken for Luton.

Argyle need to do something to ease the pressure on their penalty area.

It is getting very nervy at Home Park right now.

Luton keep knocking on the door, but right now cannot seem to find that killer touch to get an equaliser.

Will Plymouth hold on for just a second league win this season or can Luton score and make it three games unbeaten?

    Tranmere 0-0 Salford

Tranmere's Harvey Saunders reacts as a chance goes begging against SalfordImage source, PA Media

Another night of agony in the final third for Tranmere against Salford as it ends 0-0.

The 400th Friday night match at Prenton Park didn’t quite live up to the occasion and it’s a third goalless draw of the season for Rovers, who have only scored three times in seven games.

Salford haven’t fared too much better in front of goal, scoring only four times in League Two so far.

Nigel Adkins at least stops the run of two consecutive defeats and the point lifts Tranmere one place higher into 15th. Salford climb up to 13th.
