  1. Forest continue winless run under Postecogloupublished at 07:44 BST

    Nottm Forest 2-3 Midtjylland

Right, as promised, let's move on to Nottingham Forest, where Ange Postecoglou faced a supporter backlash as his winless start as Nottingham Forest head coach continued with a desperate Europa League defeat by Midtjylland.

The visitors gatecrashed Forest's party as European football returned to the City Ground for the first time in 29 years.

Midtjylland's Ousmane Diao and Mads Bech cashed in on poor Forest defending to convert from set-pieces in the first half.

Dan Ndoye scored in between those goals to briefly haul the hosts level, but Midtjylland - second in the Danish Superliga - were back in front two minutes later.

Valdemar Byskov added a late third for the visitors before Chris Wood, who had two goals disallowed, scored a stoppage-time penalty to pull back what proved to be a consolation.

To cap off Forest and Postecoglou's night, they also lost Murillo to injury.

  2. 'Awful' & 'ridiculous' - VAR controversy rules out Celtic equaliserpublished at 07:42 BST

    Celtic 0-2 Sporting Braga

Kelechi Iheanacho called it "an awful decision"; team-mate Sebastian Tounekti said it was "crazy", while former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart went with "ridiculous".

Manager Brendan Rodgers bemoaned what was a "huge moment" when Celtic had an Iheanacho goal ruled out early in the second half against Sporting Braga.

The Nigerian thought he had equalised for the home side when he fired a left-footed strike into the far corner after bursting through a weak defensive challenge.

However, after a lengthy review, VAR Christian Dingert instructed referee Tobias Stieler to disallow the goal because of a handball, despite replays appearing to show the ball hitting Iheanacho in the face.

"The ball didn't hit my hand, and that changed the game," Iheanacho said.

Kasper Schmeichel had an error-strewn game in goal and failed to keep out Ricardo Horta's early long-range effort, which stunned the Celtic Park crowd into silence.

Stunned by the VAR intervention, Celtic pushed hard to get back on level terms, only to be hit by a sucker punch.

Schmeichel did well to keep out a late shot but was helpless when the ball bounced off Gabri Martinez in a botched clearance and rebounded into the net to seal all the points.

After their Champions League qualification failure against Kairat Almaty, and an opening Europa League draw with Red Star Belgrade, this continued Celtic's disappointing start to their European campaign.

  3. Palace unbeaten run hits record 19 gamespublished at 07:39 BST

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport reporter

Crystal Palace continued their impressive start to the season with a new club record as they opened their Conference League campaign with a comfortable victory against Dynamo Kyiv in Poland.

Daniel Munoz's looping header from Yeremy Pino's back-post cross put them on their way to success in their first ever game in the main phase of a European competition.

Substitute Eddie Nketiah doubled Palace's advantage just before the hour mark with a sharp close-range finish after a wonderful bit of skill and incisive delivery from Pino on the left.

That sent around 3,500 travelling supporters into raptures and not even the dismissal of Croatian full-back Borna Sosa - for two yellow cards carelessly collected in a three-minute period - in the 76th minute could spoil their party.

By full-time they were not only celebrating a historic first away win in Europe, but breaking a club mark, set back in 1969, by extending their unbeaten run to 19 matches across all competitions.

  4. McGinn scores again as Villa continue winning runpublished at 07:36 BST

    Feyenoord 0-2 Aston Villa

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport reporter

John McGinn scored again as Aston Villa continued their winning run with an entertaining victory over Feyenoord in the Europa League.

Villa began their European campaign last week without a win in six games.

But three goals in three matches from their captain have helped them secure back-to-back wins in the Europa League either side of a first victory in the Premier League.

McGinn slotted home Villa's second in Rotterdam after the ball was nudged into his path when Donyell Malen sprinted into the area but was halted by three Feyenoord players.

That followed Emiliano Buendia's 61st-minute opener with a curled finish.

Victory leaves Villa third in the Europa League table and, with boss Unai Emery a four-time winner of the competition, they will hope this is the beginning of a successful campaign in Europe.

  5. European round-up - Forest, Villa, Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen & Palacepublished at 07:32 BST

Nottingham Forest were one of six British clubs in European action on Thursday.

They went down 3-2 at home to Danish side Midtjylland in the Europa League - the first European match played at the City Ground in 29 years.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, Aston Villa continued their recovery following what had been a slow start to the campaign, claiming a third consecutive win in all competitions at Dutch side Feyenoord.

But both Celtic and Rangers slumped to damaging defeats - Celtic falling to a controversial 2-0 loss at home to Portuguese side Braga, while Russell Martin's torrid time as Rangers manager continued with a 2-1 defeat in Austria at Sturm Graz.

In the Conference League, Aberdeen completed a bad night for Scottish sides, losing 3-2 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk, but there was better news for Crystal Palace, who went a club-record 19th game unbeaten, claiming a 2-0 victory against Dynamo Kyiv in Poland.

  6. Good morningpublished at 07:29 BST

Morning folks, welcome to another busy Friday of football news.

The usual flurry of Premier League news conferences begins with Liverpool's Arne Slot at 09:00 BST.

We have 11 to bring you today, finishing with Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou at around 13:30 BST.

Expect plenty more on the Australian in a moment, after he set an unwanted record last night of failing to guide Forest to a win in his first six matches in charge - the first manager at the City Ground ever to do so.

Before we get to Postecoglou, let's round up the rest of Thursday's European action involving British sides.
