On facing Ruben Amorim before: "There is always similarities in terms of the structure, but this is about the players.

Kevin de Bruyne is making his 265th Premier League appearance for Manchester City, moving level with Vincent Kompany.

Only David Silva (309), Sergio Aguero (275) and Joe Hart (266) have made more in the competition for the Citizens.

De Bruyne is making his first Premier League start since 14 September against Brentford. City have won their last 12 league games with the Belgian in the starting XI and are unbeaten in their last 30, since losing to Manchester United in January 2023.

As trailed, it is Jarell Quansah at right-back for Liverpool and not Joe Gomez, who is in the middle.

Jack Grealish made a point of talking to the mascot he walked onto the pitch with this evening.

It's only a small thing but that youngster will remember that moment for the rest of their lives.

Enzo Maresca has famously had one lineup in the Premier League and another in the Carabao Cup and Conference League since joining Chelsea.

The Italian has masterfully juggled his squad management to players happy.

But he could easily have opted for his strongest XI again, with Chelsea's players unlikely to be as tired as those at rival clubs, given Maresca's ability to rotate.

But he has made seven changes again, giving minutes to players on the fringes, including a surprise change to give goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen his first Premier League start.

Southampton are without 11 players, many of whom are key players, including suspended trio Tyler Dibling, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Flynn Downes.

There will be an expectation that this Chelsea team team at the bottom of the table, even when rotating.

Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Amazon Prime: "They are one of them [best teams in Europe]! They are playing very well. They are very good tactically and all credit to the manager.

"We are looking forward to the challenge. When you go into these games you know you will be tested in different ways, we need to tap into the crowd. They will be there with us from minute one and we need to utilise that.

"We want that feeling here that we are a really tough team to play against. Our home form over the last couple of seasons has been really strong, we need to get back to that starting tonight."

Arsenal

Arsenal's Declan Rice, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Tonight is going to be a good night.

"We had a similar game where we played Sporting and the manager [Ruben Amorim] was there.

"The way Man Utd play will be similar [to Sporting Lisbon], the last three fixtures they have seen improvement.

"They have good players who can hurt you at any time.

"We have improved season on season. We have not had the best start, but we are gaining momentum which is a positive."

Newcastle are a much better team when Alexander Isak plays and when he gets on the ball. And that's been a problem for Eddie Howe's team.

Against West Ham, he had no space whatsoever. He wasn't getting any ball. There is nothing wrong with his ability or attitude. He just needs to get enough decent service in decent areas.

But that is easier said than done for a Newcastle side who are a long way away from where they expect to be at this stage.

It is the creativity and supply line to Erling Haaland that Kevin de Bruyne will hopefully bring to the side tonight. If can make City's form turn round tonight it's all well and good.

Manchester City
