A horrendous start for Wolves, but a brilliant one for Everton, The hosts get a free-kick close to the right touchline and it is whipped in by Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski rises well above his marker to power a header in.

Will it count though? VAR are checking it.

Don’t be fooled by this City start. They will collapse as soon as Forest put an attack together.

    Horror show!

Southampton continue to play the ball out from the back and once again it backfires.

Keeper Joe Lumley is about 20 yards out when his pass is intercepted by Noni Madueke.

The Chelsea forward latches on to the ball, plays in Christopher Nkunku, and the Frenchman taps into an open net.

  5. 'City need to keep plugging away'published at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Man City 1-0 Nottingham Forest

    Jen Beattie
Former Scotland and Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Forest keep switching from a back five to a back four and they are making it difficult for City to play those passes through the lines. They are showing gaps though even in that back five, and City are playing well on the ball and just need to keep plugging away.

  6. Postpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Manchester City 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Almost a second goal for Manchester City. Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne play a one-two. Silva crosses and it's over Erling Haaland but not Josko Gvardiol, who heads wide.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

The Premier League leaders may be engaging their higher gears now. Alexis Mac Allister was really unlucky with that shot that kissed the post.

  8. Postpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

Manchester City are looking tidy so far. Lots of accurate passing. You wonder what a win would do for their confidence.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

This is the only early kick-off without an early goal but that's a fine effort! Mo Salah does well on the right, his cross is blocked and Alexis Mac Allister controls a half volley superbly from 20 yards, it's arrowing in but Nick Pope makes a good save.

Then, from the corner Mac Allister hits a shot off the far post!

RE: Daniel. Newcastle away is a tough fixture for anyone so it's no surprise whatsoever if Liverpool drop points today. In fact, Liverpool's 9 point gap could evaporate very quickly indeed given their next 2 games after this one tonight are also away, and against Everton and Spurs. It's a long season...

  11. Postpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Southampton 1-1 Chelsea

Southampton are playing with confidence, zipping the ball around the back.

That said, Nathan Wood has to take evasive action to turn out of danger after a sloppy pass from keeper Joe Lumley. Nervy moment for Saints fans.

Liverpool have been strangely static. They've been caught absolutely asleep and Newcastle are unlucky not to take the lead here.

This game is nicely poised. The energy levels of Newcastle is great and they've done well so far.

  13. Postpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Man City 1-0 Nottingham Forest

    Jen Beattie
Former Scotland and Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

City have made some uncharacteristic mistakes of late in defence and have been vulnerable on the counter. A good early attack from Forest to show that they can't be complacent.

Manchester City look in the mood tonight.

There is a purpose about their play. Jack Grealish is carrying the ball into dangerous areas, Kevin de Bruyne is starting to play incisive passes and Erling Haaland is prowling in front of the Nottingham Forest goal.

Bernardo Silva is one of the players who has dropped below his usual high standards during the recent run. That was his first Premier League goal since January.

  15. 'Lovely free-kick'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Everton 1-0 Wolves

    Shamoon Hafez
BBC Sport football news reporter at Goodison Park

    Goal drought. Over.

What a lovely free-kick from Ashley Young and that is exactly what the team and fans wanted.

An early goal and now they have something to hold on to.

  16. Postpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

Newcastle are still trying to find the best balance in their midfield but that's a bit of what Sandro Tonali gives you - a terrific challenge to rob the ball from Alexis Mac Allister.

Alexander Isak then gets in behind and pulls the ball back but it's cleared - could he have shot?

  17. Postpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Manchester City 1-0 Nottingham Forest

Usually you'd think OK City will win it from here. But these aren't normal times.

Forest's Jota Silva drags a shot wide from 20ish yards.

  18. goal

GOAL - Everton 1-0 Wolvespublished at 11 mins

    Ashley Young

Ashley Young of Everton scores the opening goalImage source, Getty Images

It is a first goal of the season for Ashley Young - and it's a fine one too. The hosts get awarded a free-kick 25 yards out and Young whips a low free-kick around the wall, past a diving Jose Sa and into the bottom corner.

  19. 'Great intensity from Newcastle'published at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It's been great intensity from Newcastle from the start. The question is can they keep up? If they don't keep up, they are not going to win this game against Liverpool.

  20. 'That'll settle the nerves'published at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

That was a typical City goal. A centre back driving out, playing Ilkay Gundogan through. We don't normally see Kevin de Bruyne score a lot of headers but he placed that into the bottom corner. That'll settle the nerves.
