Not much to write home about yet. A Pedro Neto nutmeg on Konrad Laimer was quite nice.

When Chelsea are on the ball, Chalobah who is the right centre back, goes so far out, well beyond the right back area, and James drops in at centre back. They are so, so far up the pitch. They only left one player back when they had a high throw in there, away to Bayern Munich.

    Mohamed Salah

    Liverpool are on fire!

Atletico Madrid have started with 11 blue shirts behind the ball but the Spanish visitors have been blown away.

The Reds double the lead through a moment of brilliance by Mohamed Salah who shrugs off the attention of three Atletico players before finishing calmly from an angle.

That was Salah at his very best.

  4. CLOSE!published at 20:06 BST 17 September

    PSG 1-0 Atalanta

PSG are purring here and it should be 2-0!

Marquinhos goes long to Nuno Mendes in the box all on his own. He controls perfectly and puts it wide of the post.

  5. goal

GOAL - Liverpool 1-0 Atletico Madridpublished at 20:04 BST 17 September

    Andy Robertson

Mohamed Salah's free-kick cannons off Andy Robertson and flies over the line with the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

Robertson is making his first start of the season. And to think some have tried to pension him off.

Fernandez is the furthest player up field for Chelsea, so it does look like they are going to have a go at it. He's going to get right up behind Joao Pedro, and that will mean the game will open out a bit.

I just don't understand this Chelsea formation. James in midfield? He's a defender...

Interesting to start Frimpong fresh from an injury when Bradley played so well against Burnley. A mistake from Slot in my opinion.

It has been over two years since Chelsea have heard that Champions League music.

Internally at the club, qualification for this competition was viewed as Enzo Maresca's biggest achievement and it vindicates some of the decisions made after a turbulent start to the Boehly-Clearlake era.

What a way to start at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich.

[Having Isak and Ekitike] might not have been their intent at the start of the summer when they were looking for a number nine, but it has worked out brilliantly for them.

I think every team wants more than one number one, at least two, for whatever circumstances, injury or turning to your bench when you need a goal.

I see an Atletico 1-0 smash and grab coming tonight. Liverpool struggled to break down Burnley and Atletico will look to employ the same tactics and hit them on the break.

Bayern Munich v Chelsea (20:00 BST)

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport Chelsea reporter

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is making his 151st Champions League appearance. The entire Chelsea squad have made only a combined 117 appearances in Europe's elite competition.

Captain Reece James is the last man standing from Chelsea's 2021 Champions League-winning campaign under Thomas Tuchel and has made the most appearances (30) at this level.

The next highest is substitute winger Jamie Gittens. Remarkable.
