We were a bit unfortunate last night but a 2-0 deficit is definitely doable. They lost 6-1 at home earlier in the competition, so we must believe. Also, based on Spurs losing last night, top 4 looks almost guaranteed so we should rest some players at the weekend ready for the 2nd leg.

As a Villa fan, I feel surprisingly sanguine about Villa's defeat. Still an, unlikely, chance for Villa to get through. But even if they don't, they will gain a lot for having had this European experience this season, and it will serve them well in the Champions League (hopefully) next season. Plus, it's given me some wonderful European nights with my old man this season.

  5. Haaland is 'ready'published at 13:09 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

A final word from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on having the chance to train: "Good, days off, three really good training sessions. They always train really good. More fresh in the mind, tactics, little details. That is the stage, not much to talk about tactics. Fresh legs, minds, ready for the game for tomorrow."

On whether Ering Haaland is fit enough to start: "Yes. When everybody is fit they have to be ready. I don't know tomorrow, of course I have doubts for one or two players. But the rest the gameplan, what I want to do, I see the last games for Wolves. But he's ready."

  6. Guardiola on the success of Man City's academypublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on the development of Manchester City academy players away from the club: "Of course for the academy, players see players who were in the academy making a huge target. Look how many players come from the academy in all around the world. Morgan at Aston Villa was here and many players. The last five, six, seven years was unbelievable. Not all players can play here, it's a question of space. [We] help them to be better players, human beings. All of them are professionals."

  7. 'I agree with Jurgen'published at 13:03 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola says he agrees with the sentiments expressed by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp earlier today about the negative impact the Premier League schedule has on teams' chances in Europe: "It's one of the reasons. I don't know the reasons but I agree with Jurgen. But it's not going to change. Maybe next season we have three or four English teams in final stages."

  9. 'We have to win all 12 points'published at 12:56 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

More from Pep Guardiola on whether his greater experience, compared to Arsenal's Mikel Arteta, will be an advantage in the Premier League title race: "I would love [that], but I don't know, I don't have an answer to this question. I would love to say yes but we have to prove it tomorrow against Wovles and in the next games.

"We know that we have to win all 12 points, otherwise it will be difficult because Arsenal are so strong. It depends on us. One at a time and we try to win the games. It's no more complicated. I would like to say what we have done in the past is going to happen again this season but nobody knows it."

  10. Foden, Dias & Ederson 'feel good'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

As well as Phil Foden, Pep Guardiola also confirmed that Ruben Dias and Ederson "feel good" and should be available for selection against Wolves.

  11. How a player improves 'belongs to them' - Guardiola on Fodenpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also confirmed that Phil Foden should be available to play against Wolves after missing the last game through illness.

He was asked if he now feels vindicated following criticism earlier in Foden's career that he was holding him back by not giving the England midfielder enough minutes: "[Initially] he was playing in a team that won a lot of Premier Leagues and was playing in the final stages of a lot of competitions. It is not easy to play [in that team] that is so demanding.

"We can as a manager suggest something, but it belongs to them. Look at the case with Cole Palmer. What did I develop? I didn't give him the minutes. The talent is there, in the end it depends absolutely on the players, what they do, and what they learn every single game.

"Always you can improve until you retire and you die, you can improve."

  12. 'Foden can keep on improving - he is still young'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola started his news conference congratulating Phil Foden after he was named Footballer of the Year by the Football Wrters' Association: "The writers decide this award. Congratulation for the writers and for him. He played really good this season, many players played really good this season and the writers decide for this award so what can I say? Congratulations.

"[He's done] really good. I have said many times. The impact in the final third is very good, his work ethic...Every year due to the amount of games he is playing and the minutes he is playing he is more mature.

"He understands the game better but he has to keep on improving, he is still young."

  14. Guardiola is herepublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has just started his press conference ahead of City's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.

City go into the game off the back of five straight Premier League wins and without a defeat in their last 19 Premier League matches.

We will hear the thoughts Guardiola shortly ahead of hosting Gary O'Neil's side.

  15. Manchester City playing a chasing gamepublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 3 May

Man City v Wolves (Sat, 17;30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City will be playing a chasing game when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

They start the weekend a point behind title-rivals and current league leaders Arsenal, but the Gunners host Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium five hours before City kick-off against Wolves, and a win would put them four points clear of Pep Guardiola's side.

Regardless of what happens at Arsenal, City will be chasing them when they play Wolves, but will be hopeful that the deficit they are chasing is either one or two points, instead of four.

Manchester City have an historic fourth successive league title in their sights.

Recent results mean they have the advantage in a straight duel with Arsenal, courtesy of their game in hand.

Looking at their run-in, tomorrow's game against Wolves, at home, is not one where you would expect them to slip up.

However, Gary O'Neil's men did emerge victorious in the reverse fixture at Molineux in September.

Manager Pep Guardiola won't be taking anything for granted.

He will be speaking to the media soon.

Completely agree with Klopp. Don't think it's a coincidence that all the PL clubs got knocked out of Europe like dominoes just after the busy Easter period. The players look gassed out compared to their European opponents who benefit from longer breaks between games and not such an arduous holiday schedule. It's a definite advantage they have.

  20. 'Liverpool are paying the price for being popular'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 3 May

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Liverpool appear to be paying the price for being popular.

TNT’s only broadcast ‘slot’ is the Saturday lunchtime one, so that is their opportunity to get the ‘biggest’ teams on their channel. No team can be in that specific slot more than six times in a season.

The caveats are no team involved in a Thursday night match can play in it. No team who plays away from home in the Champions League on a Wednesday night can play in it.

None of these rules have been breached by the scheduling of Liverpool’s games this season.

However, there is a clear reason why Jurgen Klopp might feel aggrieved.

Firstly, on two of the six occasions Liverpool have been chosen for the 1230 slot, it has been straight after midweek league games.

And after the September, October and November international breaks, they got the 1230 slot then too. And don’t forget, quite often, managers don’t see their players after international breaks until the Thursday or maybe even the Friday given the amount of travelling time involved from various parts of the world.
