    Newcastle United

Eddie Howe said that Kieran Trippier had not been training with the rest of the squad this week and would miss Saturday's game at Burnley: "He’s been away training by himself with our physiotherapist. We anticipate he’ll be back next week to train, hopefully. He could be involved before the end of the season."

On Emil Krafth and issues in central defence: "In the centre-back position we're lighter than we'd like to be with Jamaal [Lascelles], Sven [Botman] and now Fabian [Schar] missing but Emil came on and played really, really well last week. Emil has played well in that central position well for us this year. I have no doubts over his qualities."

"That's three good experienced players who are taking their first steps back and that has given us all a lift," he said.

"I have got to make some decisions that are best for them individually and for the team.

"They have all had different injuries but they have been significant injuries and we need to make sure we get this call right."

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on his relationship with Mohamed Salah following their touchline spat: "Completely resolved. It's no problem. If we didn't know each other for so long I'm not sure how we would deal with it but we know each other for that long and respect each other too much.

"It's really no problem so we can deal with these kind of things completely independent of any expectations from the outside.

"We are absolutely fine with it but in general the best situation would be, everybody in the best possible place, we win the game, score lots of goals and yes the situation probably would not have been like that. It all depends on each other."

He was sorry for what he had done, he admitted he had issues and needed help and I think he deserves credit for that.

  11. 'The right decision' - Howe on Tonali's suspended banpublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 3 May

Burnley v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Eddie Howe on Sandro Tonali's two-month suspended ban for breaking the Football Association's betting rules while playing for Newcastle: "It was the right decision, I think, that the FA arrived at - that his ban is not extended. Sandro is currently working hard behind the scenes. He has trained very well. As I have said many times, we are still supporting him and helping him as he serves his time."

On the impact the punishment has had on Tonali: "I see a small fraction of his life time on the training ground. He has been a good professional and trained very well.

"He is still quiet in the group but that is his personality, that is not a negative, he is just focussed on football. I don't necessarily see what is going on below the surface. I am sure he has had some difficult times, but he has conducted himself in a positive way.

"He has trained at a really good level. He's done a lot of work on his own, a lot of fitness work and gym work. We have worked on his speed, covered lots of different aspects of his game to help him, so he has utilised his time in a positive way."

  13. 'Villa need to get through these last games'published at 09:46 British Summer Time 3 May

Defeat for Tottenham gave Aston Villa breathing space in their quest for a fourth-place finish and qualification for next season's Champions League.

Villa are seven points ahead of Spurs in the table, with three games remaining for Unai Emery's side, while Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham have four still to play.

"It's looking good but we have still got games to go, it's not over yet," former Villa midfielder Ian Taylor said to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast.

"We have got a difficult game against Brighton. After last night [Villa's 4-2 defeat at home to Olympiakos in the Europa Conference League semi-final] the lads have got to recover and get back on Premier League duty. That's not going to be easy.

"We have still got some difficult games to go and need to concentrate on what we are doing. I've always thought it was a difficult run-in for Tottenham, but you just never know, do you?

"It would be fantastic. After the last few years that we have had, I think Unai Emery since he has come in has been an absolute magician. He has done a fantastic job at the football club with virtually the same players.

"It's been an amazing turnaround and if we can just get through these last few games we will have Champions League football and that is what we have been after all season - so that would be job done."

  15. Will there be anymore from Klopp on Salah?published at 09:31 British Summer Time 3 May

Liverpool v Tottenham (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Mandeep Sanghera
    BBC Sport

It’ll be an early start for Jurgen Klopp’s press conference on Friday with the Liverpool boss scheduled to speak to the media at 09:45 BST in the build up to Sunday’s game against Tottenham.

The Reds were held to a 2-2 draw at West Ham in their last outing in a game which was more notable for the touchline spat between Klopp and Mohamed Salah.

Klopp played down the incident after the match, saying he had spoken to his star forward.

Salah, though, was not as diplomatic, when he said "If I speak there will be fire" when he walked through a media area following the match.

We’ll see what Klopp has to say on that and more soon.

"So happy and so pleased. So happy for our players."

On set-pieces and if they targeted them against Tottenham: "We are in a good place, we have amazing professionals working on set-pieces. The team really showed in the way we wanted to build this way to play."

On the overall performance: "The first half was fantastic. Then you have to contain and suffer. Tottenham have quality players. Not too much to say, all credit to the players."

Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to keep them in the hunt for European football - and deal a massive blow to their London rivals' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Trevoh Chalobah opened the scoring when the defender rose to meet a Conor Gallagher free-kick with a powerful header mid-way through the first half.

There was a lengthy video assistant referee check for a possible block by Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella on Brennan Johnson in the build-up, but the goal was given.

As a lifelong (almost 50 years) Villa fan, let’s take the positives. Apart from a two-year period in the early 80s, this is the best Villa team I have seen. Each match we are going into, if not expecting a victory, knowing we will compete. The club has come a massive way in a short time. Champions League football is almost in reach also. The tie is not dead, although improbable, they could still overturn the deficit with the players and management team we have. Win or lose next week, what a season!

    Kev Wright

We were a bit unfortunate last night but a 2-0 deficit is definitely doable. They lost 6-1 at home earlier in the competition, so we must believe. Also, based on Spurs losing last night, top four looks almost guaranteed so we should rest some players at the weekend ready for the second leg.

  19. Wolves make Doyle move permanent from Man Citypublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 3 May

Wolves will make the signing of Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle permanent for a fee of just under £5m on 1 July.

The 22-year-old has made 30 appearances for Wolves during his season-long loan spell from City.

And Gary O'Neil's side have taken up the clause to make that move permanent.

BBC Sport understands Manchester City have a 50% sell-on clause and a buy-back option.

Doyle had been with City since the age of eight but only made seven first-team appearances and had loan spells with Hamburg, Cardiff and Sheffield United.

He is ineligible to face his parent club in the Premier League on Saturday.

  20. 'It's a difficult task, but it has been done before'published at 09:12 British Summer Time 3 May

    Aston Villa 2-4 Olympiakos

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Aston Villa face a difficult task, admitted former Villa midfielder Ian Taylor on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, but he believes there is still a chance Unai Emery's side could overturn a two-goal deficit in the second leg at Olympiakos and reach the Europa Conference League final.

"It was a disappointing night," he said. "I think Unai Emery hit the nail on the head, we just didn't play well at all. Defensively we weren't great, I think we got caught up in the occasion.

"He didn't think we played at the right speed. He wanted to slow things down. It was sort of break neck most of the night. The atmosphere was unbelievable at Villa Park and I just think a lot of the players got caught up in the occasion.

"It's a shame, if Douglas Luiz puts that penalty in it's a different game going over there at 4-3. But going to Olympiakos, it's a difficult place to go, as we know. To have to get two goals back is a difficult task, but it has been done before."
