  1. 'It's been a fantastic season for Bournemouth'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 20 May

Man City v Bournemouth (20:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth fan Heather Hoggart on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It’s been a fantastic season, we’ve achieved our highest points tally in the Premier League and we’ve beaten some teams we’ve never beaten before and done the double over Arsenal.

"We’re hoping to do the same [against Manchester City] tonight but we know it’s a tough ask, especially as Pep Guardiola's probably going to be angry about the weekend and City have got to try to secure Champions League football. The Etihad is a tough place to go but we just don’t know. We’ve managed to do the same at Arsenal."

Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth all have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe - but need Chelsea to win the Conference League and finish seventh in the Premier League.

The final matches in the Premier League take place on Sunday and there is still a scenario in which 10 of the teams, external would be playing in European competition in 2025-26.

If Chelsea win the Conference League and come seventh, that would open up their Conference League place to the Premier League team which finishes eighth - with Brighton, who beat Liverpool 3-2 on Monday, in that spot, although Brentford and Bournemouth could still overtake them.

It is a similar situation if Chelsea win the Conference League and come sixth, with Newcastle seventh, meaning eighth in the Premier League would again be enough for European competition.

Bournemouth are currently 11th but would move up to ninth with a victory today before ending the season with a home game already-relegated Leicester.

However, if the Cherries fail to win today then their European hopes would be over.

  3. 'City have to play well to give De Bruyne send-off he deserves'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 20 May

Man City v Bournemouth (20:00 BST)

Chris Sutton's predictions.Image source, BBC Sport

This is not a must-win game for Manchester City's top-five hopes but they could really do with a victory here.

Four points from their past two games against Bournemouth and Fulham will almost certainly see City finish in the Champions League places because of their goal difference, but their home form is much better than their results on the road and they certainly will not want to go to Craven Cottage on the final day needing a win.

Mind you, this game will not be straightforward for City either. Bournemouth have already beaten them once this season and ran them close in the FA Cup quarter-finals too, so we know they can cause them problems.

City's home form has been much more reliable of late, however, with four wins at Etihad Stadium in a row, and that is the main reason I am backing them here.

It is Kevin de Bruyne's final match at the Etihad, but City are going to have to play well to give him the send-off he deserves, and they need him to perform too.

De Bruyne has been a phenomenal player for City and it would be fitting if he can say farewell with a goal or one of his trademark assists.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is the "second-best" passer he has worked with - after Argentine great Lionel Messi.

Guardiola holds the departing Belgian in high esteem, ahead of the likes of other pass-masters he has managed such as Andres Iniesta and Xavi at Barcelona, and former City midfielder David Silva.

Guardiola said it would be "difficult to find" another player who passed the ball like De Bruyne and hailed him as "one of the best three" he has ever seen, before swiftly changing his mind.

"One is Messi," said Guardiola. "And the other two, let me think about it...OK, let me put Kevin second."

He added: "Messi is the best I have ever seen because Messi has done it really, really close to the box but Kevin is there. It's just the stats, the goals, the assists, that he provides to the team in the final third and the talent.

"That is unique, that is why he has been one of the best players this club has had in the whole history. These are big, big words because he has been a special player."

  5. 'It's a dream to play in the Champions League next season'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 20 May

Man City v Bournemouth (20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a special game, we are playing for Kev [De Bruyne]. It's a massive day for him. Emotionally, I hope he can control his emotions, it is not easy but he helped us for many years and today will not be an exception.

"We just recovered from the final, feel fresh, talk a bit between each other and try to make a good game against a tough side.

"It's a dream to play again in the Champions League next season, to be like a big gift, big prize for us. People say it's for granted. We have to do it now, it's difficult to be there and this season was proven."

  6. 'I hope we can get this win for De Bruyne'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 20 May

Man City v Bournemouth (20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji speaking to Sky Sports: "It's the last home game of the season. It's the last home game for Kev [De Bruyne], a very special one and we could take a huge step towards the Champions League place."

On wanting to make up for the loss in the FA Cup final: "From the loss on the weekend in the final and also the game against Southampton which we should've won. We get it here, our last home game of the season, we have to show it on the pitch now."

On Kevin De Bruyne's last home game for Man City: "It's going to be emotional. I was really happy to share these three years with him, to play with him. He's turned into a good friend of mine, so I hope we can get this win for him.

"We can't put our full focus on Kev because we've still got a game to win and that's what we need to focus on as well."

An emotional night for Manchester City players, staff and supporters awaits as the club bids an Etihad Stadium farewell to midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne.

The build-up to tonight's crucial clash against Bournemouth has been all about the Belgian, who is primed for his last home game in a City shirt as he is set to depart the club this summer.

The merchandise stalls outside the ground are cashing in on 'De Bruyne' scarves, while the matchday programme has 'King Kev' emblazoned on the front.

De Bruyne will be given a guard of honour from players and staff at full-time, before embarking on an lap of appreciation around the pitch - a deserved tribute for a man who has served City - and the Premier League - so brilliantly over the last decade.

We already know 22 of the 36 teams that will be in the league phase of the Champions League next season.

England: Liverpool, Arsenal, plus three of Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City or Nottingham Forest. Plus whoever wins the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham.

Italy: Napoli, Inter Milan, Atalanta, plus one of Juventus, Roma or Lazio.

Spain: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal.

Germany: Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund.

France: Paris St-Germain, Marseille and Monaco.

    Netherlands: PSV Eindhoven and Ajax.

    Portugal: Sporting.

Belgium: Union St-Gilloise or Club Bruges.

    Turkey: Galatasaray.

    Czech Republic: Slavia Prague.

    Greece: Olympiakos.

Seven teams will come through the four qualifying rounds to make up the 36 sides in the league phase.

Scottish champions Celtic enter in the final play-off round, while runners-up Rangers start in the second qualifying round.

Welsh title winners The New Saints begin in the first qualifying round, as do Shelbourne and Linfield, who won the League of Ireland and NIFL Premiership respectively.

  9. Why are there six English teams in the Champions League next season?published at 19:08 British Summer Time 20 May

Six English clubs will be in the Champions League - Liverpool and Arsenal have already secured their spots and will be joined by three of Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United play Tottenham in the final of the Europa League in Bilbao, Spain on Wednesday and the winner of that match will also be in next season's Champions League.

The race for the top four has been an integral part of the Premier League for the past two decades.

But when Uefa expanded the Champions League for this season to feature 36 teams all playing in one league phase, that was an increase of four sides per season. Two of those additional spots went to extra qualifiers with the other two going to the two nations whose teams had performed the best in the previous campaign.

For 2024-25, Germany's Borussia Dortmund and Italy's Bologna benefited, but for 2025-26 the Premier League got one of the extra places, with the other awarded to Spain's La Liga.

The winners of the Europa League qualify for the Champions League, but both Manchester United and Tottenham, 16th and 17th respectively in the Premier League, failed to qualify for that competition through their league position.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola remained confident his side could get the four points they need to qualify for the Champions League.

Guardiola said "everyone has to be aware" about what they need to get over the line and secure a place in the top five and "if we are not there then we don't deserve it and will be in the Europa League".

On whether he has thought about not qualifying: "I am thinking we are going to qualify. My thoughts and the way I think - I think that. We need four points. That is the main target. I am absolutely [confident of qualifying]."

On losing the FA Cup final: "We played a really good final but not enough to win it. I haven't watched that game [back]. I am focusing on Bournemouth. I don't have much time to watch - maybe I will review and show to the players."
