  2. 'The goals we conceded were naive'published at 22:50 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Plymouth 1-2 Swansea

    Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth manager Wayne RooneyImage source, Rex Features

Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney told BBC Radio Devon:

    "I'm frustrated and disappointed.

"I felt in the first half we were the better team actually. After about 10 minutes we played some good stuff, had some half-chances and didn't take them.

"Then we get hit with the sucker punch of them scoring just before half-time, which was disappointing because a lot of the stuff we've been working on in the past 10 days is getting to the ball, stopping crosses and blocking shots.

"For the second goal, we don't stop the cross and we don't defend the box well enough. Other than that, I don't think Swansea had any real chances after that or before that.

"The goals we conceded were naïve to say the least, so that was really disappointing.

"There were positives and certainly it was an improvement on the past two games, but ultimately tonight was about the result and we fell short on that."

  3. Luton's last minute winner 'tough to take' - Pelachpublished at 22:47 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Luton 2-1 Stoke

    Stoke City

Stoke head coach Narcis Pelach told BBC Radio Stoke:

"It’s tough to take because it’s at the very end – that happened to us at Sunderland as well but that is football. We cannot feel sorry for ourselves, we have to keep working hard and there are things we can do better.

"I think the performance was good. We had shots in the second half, we had good spells with the ball and our decision-making in the final third improved today, which was good to see.

"Luton were more physical and bigger than us, but we knew that. We tried to play the game in another way – when we had the ball we played to our style, on the ground.

"We didn’t force the action as much but we had chances with Tom [Cannon], with Million [Manhoef] and Lewis [Koumas] and I’m pleased with this but I want more."

  4. 'The way we defended was really pleasing'published at 22:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Blackburn

Blackburn boss John Eustace speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I’m really delighted for Makhtar to get the winning goal.

"He’s been working his socks off in training and in the games when he’s come on.

"He keeps saying he wants more crosses into the box, and that was a perfect one, so I’m delighted for him. Hopefully there’ll be more now.

"Any striker wants to score goals but I think you could see by his work-ethic and the way that he keeps going that what he does for the team is excellent.

"It was a really scrappy Championship game where there wasn’t a lot of chances. We had to defend a lot of balls into the box.

"The way we defended was really pleasing and the bit of quality was with us, with the cross from Joe and the build-up."

  5. 'We trusted the lads on the pitch'published at 22:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Luton 2-1 Stoke

    Luton Town

Luton manager Rob Edwards gives the thumbs upImage source, PA Media

Luton manager Rob Edwards told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"Going 1-0 down early on, you think 'what's coming here?' but the lads reacted really well and got back on the front foot, pushed and got the equaliser and kept going throughout.

"I felt we deserved it – we had the bigger chances, we had more shots and we had some really good openings. We trusted the lads that were on the pitch to get the job done and they just about did it.

"He goes on these runs, Eli (Adebayo). He always works incredibly hard but what he's shown in the two years I've been here is runs of games where he can score six, seven or eight goals.

"I thought that front three worked hard tonight, they played close together and they were a real handful."

  6. 'We go again, that's what we do'published at 22:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Burnley 0-0 Derby

    Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker with Derby counterpart Paul Warne at full-timeImage source, PA Media

Burnley head coach Scott Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"A frustrating night, I think it’s fair to say. We came here with a real purpose to get three points tonight and that’s not really manifested tonight.

"We huffed and puffed and fell a little bit short in the final third. Credit to Derby, they’ve come here and done a very good job defensively.

"We have our moments and really the game probably hinges on just one moment that we need to go and try and get our nose in front and probably the game looks a little bit different.

"The fine margins are tonight in our chances that we didn’t manage to execute and it’s certainly something we need to look at.

"But we go again, that’s what we do. Certainly in this Championship, that’s exactly what we do."

  7. 'It's hard to take - the team do everything I demand from them'published at 22:37 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Blackburn

    Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny RohlImage source, Rex Features

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl talking to BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I feel okay but we want to win games. We want to win such tight games.

"It's again the same story. We are feeling so close and then there's that last punch, at the last moment. In these games, we are unable to do this.

"It's sometimes hard to take when you see what we invest into the game again and again, then I feel for my team. They do everything what I demand from them, they fight for every inch again and again until the end.

"But this last step, it's a big last step - I think that should be clear for us. This is not a small step, it's a huge step and it's the reason some teams they have a flow to take wins and wins and some teams are in the midfield of the table.

"If we can improve this, then we can go high up."

  8. 'We dominated the game'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Sunderland 1-1 Bristol City

    Sunderland

Sunderland manager Regis Le BrisImage source, PA Media

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris, speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle:

"We dominated the game, we started well with a good tempo. We created chances but had a lack of players in the box to receive the crosses.

"The first half was positive, the second half was a little different because they changed their shape and defended in a different way.

"We struggled a bit for maybe 20 minutes, we were less dominant and they created some situations.

"We had the character to score at the end and I think it was deserved. Overall we can be frustrated because we were dominant and against the low block we struggled to find the right solution."

  9. 'We showed our character'published at 22:27 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Middlesbrough

    Leeds United

Leeds defender Pascal StruijkImage source, Rex Features

Leeds captain Pascal Struijk speaking to BBC Radio Leeds:

"Today was really important that we set the tone from the first minute.

"In the second half they sat back and they came back into but we showed our character.

"They are a quality side and they will have spells but it's up to up to catch them on the break.

"From the first minute the fans were trying to help, the support we have here is here and it's a big reason why we're doing so well this season.

"I'm trying to help the team as much as we can but it's a team game."

  10. What's on tomorrowpublished at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

All games kick-off at 19:45 GMT unless stated

Tuesday's action may have come to its end but the midweek football is far from over.

Here's what we've got to look forward to tomorrow (all times 19:45 GMT unless stated).

The Den is a place of interest given Sheffield United have the opportunity to retake top spot against a Millwall side in a state of flux with Neil Harris stepping down after the weekend.

Ruben Selles takes charge of his first Hull game against Watford at the MKM Stadium while there's a Midlands derby between West Brom and Coventry.

    • Cardiff City v Preston North End
    • Hull City v Watford
    • Millwall v Sheffield United
    • QPR v Oxford United
    • West Bromwich Albion v Coventry City (20:00 GMT)
  11. 'They gave everything'published at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Sunderland 1-1 Bristol City

    Bristol City

Bristol City head coach Liam ManningImage source, Rex Features

Bristol City boss Liam Manning, speaking to BBC Radio Bristol:

"I feel for the lads, they left everything out there and that's what I was looking for as a response from the weekend [loss to Portsmouth].

"They gave everything tonight and for 93 minutes it was everything we'd want in a solid away performance at a really difficult place to come.

"We're disappointed not to get three [points] but, at the same time, coming here and taking a point is not the worst thing."

  12. 'Carrick will be angry'published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Middlesbrough

I didn't think Leeds were at their best.

First half we gifted them possession and we sat too deep. But in the second half we gifted them the second goal and I'm sure Michael Carrick will be angry in there.

It was a really frustrating game and I think it's the first time I've said it's been a real disappointment.

It hurts a little bit because the game management in the second half was not good enough. You might get away with it against the lesser sides but not here at Elland Road. They will punish you and we got punished.

  13. 'City will go away with a sense of disappointment'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Sunderland 1-1 Bristol City

    Gary Owers

Patrick Roberts scores the equaliser for SunderlandImage source, Rex Features

It's disappointing in the end for Bristol City because you're going into stoppage time but they get the goal.

If your looking for a reaction after Saturdays performance it's something.

Sinclair Armstrong didn't have the impact that we wanted him to make and Nahki Wells came on.

They've paid the penalty in the end for trying to see out the game if you like.

They'll go away with a sense of disappointment because they did enough to come away with all three points.

  14. 'This a massive result'published at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    FT: Leeds 3-1 Middlesbrough

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

Both sides tried to play the game in the right way.

In the first half Leeds were the better side and at the start of the second half Boro were better.

    This a massive result.

Leeds limited them to shots on goal. The two centre-backs were really good.

It's a great result, some good decisions and most importantly back on top of the league.

Leeds strengthen their automatic promotion credentials with an impressive win over Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Willy Gnonto's early opener was cancelled out by a Max Wober own goal.

But a great finish from Dan James and a late goal from Brenden Aaronson sealed all three points for the Whites.

They will end the night top of the league, while Boro created chances of their own and again showed why they will be right in the mix for a place in the top six come the end of the season.

  17. 'Boro need to learn how to grind out results'published at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    Leeds 3-1 Middlesbrough

At 1-1 just see it out, don't give it away but they give one and Dan James puts it in the top corner.

This team has to find out how to grind out results in a way where just be consistent with your play, they've done it before.

That first half they were poor but in the second half they gift them the goal.

  18. 'This is a statement'published at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    Leeds 3-1 Middlesbrough

    Neil Redfearn
Former Leeds manager on BBC Radio Leeds

Joe Rothwell has been the best player on the pitch tonight. Outstanding

This is a statement. Not many teams have done this to Middlesbrough.

    Leeds 2-1 Middlesbrough

    Well that's astonishing.

This is so far out and Daniel Barlaser decides to take it on anyway, running up and putting his laces through it.

I'm not sure that's ever coming back, it's gone so high into the stand!

    Seven added minutes to go.
