Middlesbrough travel to Leeds looking to end a miserable run of eight league games without a win at Elland Road.

The Whites have won each of their last four league games against the Reds, scoring at least three goals in three of those matches.

Michael Carrick's Boro side have lost just once in their last six Championship matches and come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw at Burnley.

The Teessiders did win 3-0 when the two clubs met in the Carabao Cup here earlier this season.

Leeds can go top of the table with victory, with current leaders Sheffield United in action against Millwall tomorrow.

Sunderland v Bristol City (19:45 GMT)

Sunderland failed to win any of their six Championship games during November but they started their December fixture programme with a 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday, with teenager Tommy Watson scoring both of the Black Cats' goals.

That winless run had allowed Sheffield United, Leeds and Burnley to nudge ahead of Sunderland in the Championship table - but there is a scenario in which they could return to the top by the close of play on Tuesday.

Bristol City's inconsistency this season is signified by their current position of 12th.

Liam Manning's side are yet to win consecutive league matches in 2024-25 and they followed a 4-0 home win over Plymouth with a 3-0 loss at Portsmouth on Saturday - after which Manning said Pompey "had more intensity" than his side.

  7. Can the Rams sprinkle some sugar on their season?published at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

    Burnley v Derby (19:45 GMT)

Paul Warne covers his face while watching Derby CountyImage source, Rex Features

Derby County boss Paul Warne came under fire this week after claiming the reason the Rams opted for damage limitation over a win against Leeds United on Saturday was because they were "playing a Premier League team with a League One team with a bit of sugar on top".

The defeatist attitude didn't wash well with fans and perhaps, given tonight's opponents, it's even more understandable.

If Leeds are what Warne refers to as a "Premier League team" then surely a side freshly relegated from the top flight, third in the table and firmly in the battle to earn automatic promotion, also fall into that category.

Does Warne anticipate a loss to Burnley before the visitors even step their studs onto the pitch?

Only the Rams boss knows that for certain but given Derby haven't beaten the Clarets since 2007 (D3 L9) and their current run of poor form sees them without a win in five league games, it's going to take a mammoth effort to take all three points here this evening.

Though, you'd hope, the Rams will think they are up to the task.

Plymouth Argyle were one of the Championship clubs whose game on Saturday was postponed because of Storm Darragh.

Before that, Wayne Rooney's side had conceded a combined 10 goals in away defeats by Norwich and Bristol City.

Rooney has added former Manchester United assistant boss Mike Phelan, external to his coaching staff in recent days following the sudden departure of trusted No2 Pete Shuttleworth.

While Argyle plot a way out of the bottom three, Swansea head to Devon on a three-game unbeaten run. They start seven points from the top six and seven points from the bottom three.

  9. Can Owls get in the right mindset at Hillsborough?published at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2024

Sheff Wed v Blackburn (19:45 GMT)

Fixture conditions that Sheffield Wednesday revel in? Midweek games and playing against Blackburn Rovers on home turf.

The Owls are unbeaten in six league games on weeknights, having won both of their last two and kept a clean sheet in their past four.

Add in the fact that they have won all three of their last Championship matches against tonight's visitors - as well as having won five of their past six home league encounters against the Rovers - and it seems that this is a game they will be looking forward to.

Though Blackburn have been enjoying a more than decent Championship season so far, having won their past four league games on the bounce to see themselves sitting in the final play-off spot.

Meanwhile, Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has expressed his concerns over his side's mentality at Hillsborough.

So while Wednesday may have good memories against the Rovers in the recent past, there's no telling what will happen against a squad who is clearly in form and hoping to get comfortable at the top end of the table.

Portsmouth and Norwich face off tonight at Fratton Park tonight for the first time in the league since 2011.

Simeon Jackson was the match winner that day on 10 May as the Canaries secured promotion to the Premier League and the two clubs have been kept apart since, as Norwich have yo-yoed between the top two leagues and Pompey have been down to League Two and back.

Portsmouth won the last time these two met in the FA Cup in 2018-19 and victory tonight for Pompey could lift them out of the relegation zone for the first time since September.

John Mousinho's side come into the game on the back of a confidence-boosting 3-0 home win against Bristol City at the weekend and will want more of the same at Fratton Park.

Norwich themselves were well beaten by the same scoreline against Championship strugglers QPR on Saturday.

    Luton v Stoke (19:45 GMT)

Stoke travel to Luton aiming to end a run of five games without a win.

Narcis Pelach's side have lost their last two games, against Burnley [2-0] and Sunderland [2-1], and face a Hatters outfit who themselves have not won for three games.

It hasn't been a fun return for Luton to the second tier, with 19 points from 19 games putting pressure on head coach Rob Edwards.

The Hatters won the last meeting between these two at Kenilworth Road before their promotion to the Premier League, but Stoke were unbeaten in their previous six visits to the Bedfordshire club.

The Potters are unbeaten in their four midweek Championship games this season, winning two and drawing two.

The first goal could be crucial in this one, with the opening scorers winning all of the six previous fixtures between the two teams.

The 47-year-old returned to the Lions in February and guided the club to Championship safety last season.

Millwall are currently 11th in the table with 25 points from 18 games, and are six points off a play-off spot.

Harris said it was not an easy decision to leave the club but the time feels right.

All of the Championship's top six clubs - barring the leaders Sheffield United - are in action tonight. The Blades go to Millwall on Wednesday.

It's so close at the top that any one of four clubs could end this evening top of the table.

Leeds, who have won four of their past five games, host a Middlesbrough side that have won four of their past six matches.

Third-placed Burnley are on a six-game unbeaten run, four of them victories, while Blackburn are in the top six courtesy of their run of four successive wins.

Sunderland, meanwhile, had gone six Championship matches without a win before beating Stoke on Saturday.
