I know how difficult it is, I've been in teams that have won back-to-back Premier League titles, we won three in a row, and it's very difficult. I think they've got a bit complacent, there was a lot on Salah, Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold which took a lot of energy from people at Liverpool. I think they are missing Trent enormously.

I think the new players, Liverpool aren't as big as Man Utd in my opinion but they are a massive club around the world. Kerkez coming in from Bournemouth, Isak from Newcastle, they're struggling.

Funny supporters say Liverpool would have won if Gakpo took his chances. United would be top of the league if they took their chances against Arsenal and Fulham. We can all live in fantasy land where expected goals win the 3 points. Utd took their chances and deserved the win.

Liverpool are a much better team than Manchester United so if Manchester United are to come to Anfield and win it was to be like that, get a bit of luck with a late goal.

Liverpool are not at the races at all defensively and until they fix that, they can't win the league.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to Sky Sports after Sunday's defeat: "I think we conceded a very sloppy second goal. We worked so hard to get back into the game and we created great opportunities to score the winner but if you concede a second goal like that, that is the disappointing part.

"If you look at the game as a whole, we were far too rushed. I think they were very patient they didn't press us high but they didn't let us on the ball. We still created many opportunities to score but the reality is that we lost."

On what is next: "It is an interesting time because we have to stick together, not just us as players but as a club and the fans who want us to win."

    Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim speaking about Harry Maguire: "Maguire is so important in this moment. When we have a moment you can feel the team struggle a lot but I was trying to prepare the way he plays and the way he controls those set pieces and you saw it today, he scored a goal but that experience is really important.

"It's one more win, enjoy it. Tomorrow let's forget about it and focus on the next one right away."

I would have struggled to have dealt with what Harry Maguire has been through. He was a meme for years. For him to have dealt with so much, he's incredibly strong. People were laughing at him, and he's been in World Cup teams of the tournament.

It was bullying, he was getting bullied all over the place, and for him to heave dealt with that, you have to say he's a strong human being. It's not nice for his family either, so for him to come out the other side and show his ability, I couldn't be happier for him.

Utd deserved the win. But they weren’t amazing. Parked the bus but were always open. Liverpool were awful but created a load of chances. Pundits and fans getting ahead of themselves a bit. If Gakpo scores and doesn’t hit the posts, would we still say United were good?

    Josh, Cardiff

Good result for United, but the score should have been around 6-3 to Liverpool with the chances they made. Both teams have defensive issues, so Brighton next week, in a way, is more important for United to prove some consistency.

Expected goals says it all. Liverpool should have won it even with a poor performance.

  11. Maguire is a main manpublished at 09:09 BST

    Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport Manchester United reporter

Harry Maguire's Manchester United contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The word is he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

United's hierarchy should be getting it sorted quite quickly.

Maguire is one of those solid, reliable professionals every club needs.

Time and again, he has shown resilience when it would be easier to quit on the club. Time and again, he has shown he is capable of delivering when the pressure is at its most intense.

Maguire didn't just score the winner at Anfield yesterday. He was also a defensive rock as Liverpool pushed forward trying to find an equaliser, then a winner, then another equaliser.

You could just tell he loved every clearance as much as he loved his goal.

He, as much as anyone, deserved that moment yesterday.

  12. 'It is an embarrassing stat to have'published at 09:04 BST

    Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire on finally securing back to back league wins: "It's embarrassing really. It's not a stat that we should even be speaking about because it is an embarrassing stat to have. Now that's out of the way let's try and make it three [wins] on Saturday against Brighton, because we have to start putting a bit more consistency together. The last three or four years we'd put in a performance like this and the following game we come down again. We have set a bench mark, there are a lot of areas we can do more, we were hanging on there and defending for the last 30 minutes or so.

"We'll analyse it. The manager strives for perfection so I'm sure he will want us to play better than we did in the second half. Great fight, big spirit, big win, but again we have to go again."

Losing at home as title defenders to United, who were nearly relegated last year, is utterly shameful. The new signing have no passion for our club, they've come for glory but seemed to have forgotten they are the ones supposed to be earning it.

  15. 'It has been a long time coming'published at 08:53 BST

    Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's been a long-time coming. It's been a tough place for us over recent years. We know how big it is for our fans. We have the cliche of it being 'only three points' but it is more than three points that today.

"It's massive for our club, for our fans and it is a great memory they are going to have. The lads are buzzing and as cliche as it is we need to build on it now and make sure to take the confidence from it and take the fighting spirit.

"We can play better on the ball, of course we can, we were sloppy at times, but there were times where we played through them and created numerous chances, especially in the first half.

"The fight and the spirit has got to be with us every game and that is something we need to make sure we show that against Brighton next Saturday. I'm sure the fans will have a good night."

  16. 'It is nice to have one over Liverpool'published at 08:48 BST

    Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Player of the match Harry Maguire speaking to Sky Sports: "It means everything. They had had the better of us over the last few years and it's not been good for our club. We have not given our fans enough days like today, so it has been a long time coming, coming to this ground and picking up three points.

"It is not just three points to the club and to the boys. I have been coming to this ground for seven years now and to not get three points have been tough. It's for the fans and I hope they had a great night tonight.

"It is nice to have one over Liverpool. Football is all about memories and making special memories. I am sure all the fans will go home with memories, we will all go home happy."

On what is next: "We won't get carried away because we can't afford that as a club, we will use it as motivation.

"In this club, it will mean a lot this week and then we have Brighton at home next week. So we have to remain calm headed."

Graham Potter wasn't out of management for long - the former West Ham manager has been appointed head coach of the Sweden men's team.

Sweden sacked Jon Dahl Tomasson last week after taking just one point from their opening four World Cup qualifiers.

Potter is tasked with getting Sweden to the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico next summer.

Despite their struggles in the qualifiers, Sweden's success in the Uefa Nations League will likely earn them a place in the World Cup play-offs in March.

"Together with the players, I want to make the fans' dream of a championship summer come true," said Potter.

Absolutely buzzing! Nowhere near "back", before the media start their usual antics, but this win is huge. Even more delighted for Harry Maguire. The amount of hate he gets is uncalled for. But he always rolls his sleeves up and gets stuck in. Worthy of a winner at Anfield.
