  1. 'We didn't see that coming'published at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-1 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We didn't see that coming at all. Lille haven't created anything in this half and are down to 10 men.

The ball is blocked by Tsimikas and it was a great finish from David.

GOAL - Liverpool 1-1 Lillepublished at 21:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Jonathan David (62 mins)

    Now then!

Lille respond brilliantly to going a man behind as Gabriel Gudmundsson pulls a ball back into the box and Jonathan David reacts first to finish past Alisson.

Liverpool fans are in fine voice after the sending off. Scarves are being spun all over the place.

  4. Alvarez levels for Atleticopublished at 21:18 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Atletico Madrid 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

World Cup winner Julian Alvarez scores his fifth Champions League goal of the season. He latches on to a ball over the top and slots into the bottom corner. The 10-men of Atletico are level.

  5. RED CARD - Lillepublished at 21:18 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Lille are a goal down and now a man down.

Aissa Mandi left Felix Zwayer with no choice but to issue a second yellow card. The ball is played through for Luis Diaz and he is cynically hacked down. What a challenge to make when you've been booked!

  6. Flamingo sent off for PSVpublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Red Star Belgrade 0-3 PSV Eindhoven

The brilliantly named Ryan Flamingo scored a cracking goal for PSV in the first half and now he is sent off. He steps on the foot of Nemanja Radonjic, who certainly makes the most of it, and is shown a straight red card.

It is given because he is the last man, but on the replay, there is a covering defender. It seems rather harsh and he trudges off the field looking dejected.

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Mo Salah plays the ball inside for Harvey Elliott and he then plays in the onrushing Conor Bradley. He can't quite control his cross while running at pace and it spins out for a goalkick.

  8. Postpublished at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Lille defender Alexsandro Ribeiro tries taking on the whole Liverpool side on his own. We know you're Brazilian but come on!

  9. Postpublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Alexis Mac Allister finds the feet of Darwin Nunez but his touch is heavy and Lille attack. Nunez then makes amends for his error and wins the ball back in the left-back position. Great work rate from the striker!

  10. Postpublished at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Kostas Tsimikas wins a free-kick and he whips in a delivery from the left. It's a great ball in and Jarell Quansah gets up highest but he can't guide it on target. Should score really.

  11. Postpublished at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Liverpool have controlled this game well so far. Not exerted much energy and are currently on course to securing top spot.

Darwin Nunez times his run through the middle well but the pass from Kostas Tsimikas is just too hard. Good idea.

  12. 'Liverpool in control'published at 21:08 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Liverpool have controlled the game very well. In the last few games they have afforded opportunities to their opponents and they haven't done that today.

  13. Postpublished at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Dominik Szoboszlai seems to have dropped back into the six where Ryan Gravenberch was playing with Harvey Elliott playing behind Darwin Nunez.

Other than that, there hasn't been much to report in the opening five minutes of this half.

  14. Lille's former starspublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

BBC Radio 5 Live pundit and former Liverpool defender, Stephen Warnock, has done his research on former Lille players.

Cast your eyes over this star-studded XI of footballers who have played for the club in the past - and where they ply their trade now.

    It's quite the team!

It may well have been planned that Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch would play 45 minutes each but Curtis Jones looked to be carrying a knock in the first half. I'm sure Arne Slot will clear it up at full-time.

  16. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

We're back under way at Anfield.

Arne Slot has made two changes at half-time with Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott coming on for Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch.

  17. 'I made a mistake when I decided to play with two strikers'published at 21:02 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    FT: Monaco 1-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery: "I think we played 70 minutes like I want. The opponent of course have a gameplan as well. They were good in transition.

"We created three or four good chances to score. Of course if we want to be at this level we have to take the chances we had. But despite that I was more or less positive.

"The last 20-25 minutes we were playing with two strikers and we were not threatening like the first 70 minutes.

"I was especially happy with Emi Buendia today. He has the option to leave but we needed him. We played fantastic with his qualities, his mentality and his commitment to this squad.

"The last 20 minutes we played with two strikers and with two strikers we are not being organised with the positioning like I want.

"We have two good strikers. Playing with two strikers is my challenge. Both are very good players but today it didn't work well.

"I made a mistake when I decided to play with two strikers. Until that moment we were more or less controlling the game."

  18. 'Salah has belief in himself'published at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    HT: Liverpool 1-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think there has always been a smile on Salah's face but it's just that belief in himself that he will score the next one. That's what makes him so dangerous.

That's the elite mindset of a player of his calibre.

Sorry but if you're saying negative things about Mo Salah I'd seriously suggest following another sport.
