Perfect game for Liverpool so far. Played at a nice pace and able to rest a few players from the weekend. If Barca lose tonight Slot can play a full reserve side in the last match.

  3. 'Liverpool opened up Lille's press'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    HT: Liverpool 1-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Liverpool showed a lot of respect to Lille - almost too much - but then a few long balls over the top have opened up their press.

It was a well-taken goal by Mohamed Salah.

  5. 'Just not good enough'published at 20:51 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    FT: Monaco 1-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings: "No excuses. I gave a poor ball away leading to the corner, didn't defend the corner very well. We couldn't get back in the game and couldn't take the chances we had. That is the fine margins of football.

"We were just not good enough.

"We will certainly take the positives that came from the game but we have to be better. We have to try to stay balanced and be the same if we won when we lose. We need a consistent mood and attitude.

"It wasn't a good night, there's not a person here who feels good about that - the fans have travelled a long way. We will go again.

"In the big moments we came out on the wrong side of them."

Liverpool have grown into this game and got stronger as the half has gone on and are asking plenty of questions of Lille.

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

A pretty low-key first half comes to an end and it's Liverpool who lead through Mo Salah (who else?)

Hakon Haraldsson goes down in the Liverpool box under the challenge of Curtis Jones but the midfielder did brilliantly to get a toe on the ball to poke it clear.

In fact, Haraldsson didn't even appeal for a penalty.

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

The first touch was sumptuous and then the strength to hold off Gudmundsson, that would have been a brilliant goal.

    That was exquisite.

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

It should be 2-0! Luis Diaz plays an incredible ball from the left-back position to Mo Salah high on the right. Salah uses his body expertly to get goal side but his finish is the wrong side of the post. You'd expect him to score from there every day of the week.

Curtis Jones is back on the pitch. Seems to be moving freely enough.

I might be mistaken but it looked like Curtis Jones was indicating that Mo was staying at Liverpool during that celebration! Really will be the icing on the cake that!
