Another chance for Morgan Rogers seconds before half-time as he is put through on goal. The keeper comes rushing out to close down the gap and manages to push away Rogers' shot.

That's the last real chance of an entertaining first half.

Arsenal where they want to be being ahead at half-time.

They have had control and Shakhtar Donetsk have only looked dangerous when they have countered. This game should have been put to bed, Jesus has missed some big opportunities.

Nice build up play by Aston Villa as they work the ball to Morgan Rogers. He's a good 30 yards from goal but is not far off with a well-struck low drive.

That's that for the opening 45 minutes.

Arsenal firmly on top but would probably like a couple more goals to show for it. As it stands it's Dmytro Riznyk's own goal that separates the two.

Mykola Matviienko, magnificent.

It was a clever ball to the back post and Jesus just volleys it into the ground. Matviienko out of nowhere hooks the ball clear from Kai Havertz's head - last ditch defending.

Incredible defending!

Gabriel Jesus knocks it back across goal from close to the byline and Declan Rice only has to nod into an empty net but it's a remarkable bit of defending from Mykola Matviienko to hook the ball away from the goal mouth.

Wonderful turn by Riccardo Orsolini to get away down the right, but the Aston Villa defence recovers the situation and wins back possession.

Tyrone Mings, on the Aston Villa bench for the first time in 14 months, is applauded by the home fans as he goes out to warm up.

What a match in Madrid.

The home side respond as Rodrygo hits the woodwork and then on the follow-up Jude Bellingham smashes a shot against the underside of the bar which bounces on the line and out.
