  1. 'Having knowledge of every position is my role'published at 13:39 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes on his role in getting the manager's ideas across: "You always have to adapt to different ideas and positions, even sometimes on playing in the same system you have to adapt to different ideas of playing - on the ball and off the ball - because the manager can ask different things.

"It is not difficult for me to adapt in any position. I am really well aware of that.

"During training I try to absorb everything, of every position. I try to have an understanding of the game because being the captain the manager cannot always give the message from the bench to the pitch, because of the noise or whatever, so as a captain you have to try to resolve the situation together with your team-mates. Having knowledge of every position is my role."

  2. 'Focus is on what the future can bring'published at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes on whether the players should take the blame for the sacking of Erik ten Hag: "If you change a manager mid-season it is because things are not going as you want and if the things are not going as you want then everyone has to take the blame.

"As I have said before, it is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 or 20 players, but now our focus is on what the future can bring and get as quick as possible the ideas of the new manager."

  3. Postecoglou and Udogie to speak shortlypublished at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

Tottenham v Roma (Thurs, 20:00 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

We are due to hear from both Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and left-back Destiny Udogie shortly ahead of Spurs' Europa League meeting with Italian side Roma.

They go into the match off the back of a 4-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League, but fresh off the news that goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has had surgery on a broken ankle.

  4. Amorim on squad rotation and fixture congestionpublished at 13:28 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on whether he risks a divide in the squad by splitting training sessions - between those who play in the Premier League and those who feature in the Europa League: "They are already split because if Bruno [Fernandes] plays tomorrow he cannot train for two days, even the day before the next match he cannot train - just slowly, or jogging.

"So they are already split. What I am seeing is that some guys that don't play, the next day after the match they will train and have an opportunity to have a real training session. Some guys will play, some will have the opportunity to have a training session and in the next game we will change positions."

  5. 'We will try to rotate and win every game'published at 13:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on whether he plans to rotate his squad: "We have to do it, especially in this moment because we have a lot of games and in the beginning of something they have to feel that they are part of the team.

"They are international players. We will try to rotate and try to win every game - have a clear idea of how to play and everybody needs to be on the same page."

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on his first home game as manager: "Everyone has said to me it will be a special time. I just want to win the game. Just to give that happiness to the supporters.

"Before the match it will be like a new sensation, but after the whistle it will be one more game and we want to win that match."

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on summer signing Leny Yoro: "He is available to train but we are working on his fitness, which is important. He is a young guy.

"This is a massive club. It is very important the first image so we will try to put everything together because he is a great talent. We believe a lot in him and we are trying to prepare the best way."

  8. Maguire to miss out, but Martinez fit to playpublished at 13:13 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on whether defenders Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez will be fit to play: "Not Harry. Lisandro is ready. I felt he had enough time so is ready. A different situation with Harry.

"We need them both, but they are in a different situation. They are both training. Harry will be ready soon and on the pitch also."

  9. Bodo/Glimt can compete in one-off gamepublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man Utd v Bodo/Glimt (Thur, 20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Bodo/Glimt accept they can never come close to matching the financial muscle Premier League clubs receive.

But that doesn't mean they do not travel to Manchester for tomorrow night's Europa League encounter with United at Old Trafford without huge belief of causing a shock.

"We don't have the resources you see at top clubs in England," said sporting director Havard Sakariassen. "We will never, ever be able to compete with that.

"But we truly believe in development and that we can get the potential out of the players we have here.

"If we can do that, as individuals and as a team, it is huge. Then you can make a great team and it goes a long way.

"Maybe I am naive. But In a single match like on Thursday, I think we will be able to compete against Manchester United and have a great performance at Old Trafford."

As we reported earlier this morning, Paris St-Germain suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

Kim-Min Jae's first half header was the difference between the two sides.

It leaves PSG with a lot to do to stand any chance of progressing from the league phase of the competition.

  11. PSG face tough task to qualifypublished at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Bayern Munich 1-0 PSG

Could Paris St-Germain fail to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League?

Well they are in 26th place, one point outside the play-offs, so will be eliminated if things stay the same.

    Their final three games are:

    • 10 Dec: Red Bull Salzburg (a)
    • 22 Jan: Manchester City (h)
    • 29 Jan: Stuttgart (a)
  12. Bodo/Glimt had to wash their own kitpublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt fly into Manchester later today ahead of tomorrow's Europa League match with United at Old Trafford.

Bodo/Glimt are establishing themselves as Norway's top team but that has not always been the case.

Sporting director Håvard Sakariassen used to be a player at the club and he remembered a period where the squad had to wash their own kit.

"If you go back to the year in 2009-2011, the club was struggling really hard financially," he said.

"I had my last season in 2011 as a player. In mid-season that year I quit. I was old and not any good. I left the changing room and went upstairs.

"At that time the club was in such bad conditions that we didn’t have a kit manager. We washed our training gear at home and came to training already dressed. That was the situation at Bodo/Glimt in 2011.

"We had one person working for the A team that autumn. That was me. I was the kit man."

I doubt Manchester United's players have ever washed their own kit in their entire history.

  13. 'Questions will be asked of Enrique management'published at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Bayern Munich 1-0 PSG

    John Bennett
BBC Sport reporter on Football Daily podcast

That makes it just four points from five games for Paris St-Germain. They are 26th in the table and are in massive danger of not even getting into the play-offs.

Boss Luis Enrique made a big call. He dropped [Gianluigi] Donnarumma and brought in another goalkeeper [Matvei] Safonov and he made a really bad error for the only goal. Then they had Ousmane Dembele sent off in the second half.

Paris St-Germain were not actually that bad in this game, but they are in big trouble. Luis Enrique has won just six of his 17 Champions League games [with PSG]. Questions will be asked of his management at the moment.

Plenty of cameras here to capture the thoughts of Ruben Amorim and Bruno Fernandes when they speak to the media shortly ahead of Manchester United's Europa League encounter with Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.

It will be Amorim's first game at Old Trafford as United boss.

He conducted his first interview as United manager there for MUTV.

He has already moaned about the number of media engagements he has had.

I doubt the interest in United will reduce so he might be advised to get used to it.

    Sporting 1-5 Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel MagalhaesImage source, Getty Images

All eyes were on Sporting's Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres before Arsenal's visit in the Champions League following a remarkable scoring run of 24 goals in 17 club games this season that had seen him linked with some of the top sides in the Premier League.

Leon Osman told BBC Sounds' Football Daily podcast that the 26-year-old former Coventry forward was marked out of the game by Arsenal centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

"When you are trying to judge him [Gyokeres], you are judging him up against an outstanding partnership who are physically impressive," said Osman, about Saliba and Gabriel. "Both have got great pace, both have got great anticipation. He was coming up against some of the best.

"When he was up against [Jakub] Kiwior for a short spell he actually looked a bit more dangerous. He looked like he could run the channels and get away from him.

"I do think there is a player in there. I do think there is quality. I think he relies on his strength in the Portuguese league to wrestle people out of the way, but he just couldn't do that against the two Arsenal centre-halves because they won every single duel they were involved in. Gyokeres couldn't quite get into the game."

  16. Arsenal win makes a 'mockery' of statisticspublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

BBC Radio 5 Live's senior football reporter

Since Arsenal returned to the Champions League in 2023 they had only had one win in seven away games. They came into this game without scoring in four successive matches on their travels. They made a mockery of those statistics.

    Sporting 1-5 Arsenal

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on Football Daily

[Arsenal's players] looked like they were really up for the challenge. They looked positive. We have seen Arsenal play away in some big games when they have sat back and looked good defensively, allowing the game to develop before bursting into life, but against Sporting they just went for it right from the first whistle. I am not talking gung-ho, there was a really controlled nature about the way they went and did it.

There was a real belief that they knew how they were set up. Tactically they were excellent. Their system won out against Sporting's 3-4-3.

Thankfully for Arsenal, they were able to apply the finishing touch to most of their moves. It was 3-0 at half-time, it could have been more. They finished with five goals, it could have been upwards of seven with the amount of good chances they had.

    Sporting 1-5 Arsenal

Martin Odegaard playing for Arsenal against SportingImage source, Getty Images

Alan Alger, from the Footballistically Arsenal podcast, told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast that the return of key players, such as captain Martin Odegaard, was an important factor behind Tuesday's impressive win at Sporting:

"Going into the international break, the stuttering performances, [Arsenal] weren’t quite connecting...it makes a huge difference to have your first choice 11 available.

"We’ve got some easier fixtures coming up. I don’t think we’re even leaving the south until February. Games where we’re not travelling too far, hopefully the players are rested and this can be the big point of the season.

    "It couldn’t be better timing."

NB: Arsenal's next game outside the south of England is, in fact, at Wolves on 25 January. They also play at Girona in the Champions League on 29 January. Between now and then, their scheduled away fixtures are at Fulham (8 Dec), Crystal Palace (21 Dec), Brentford (1 Jan) and Brighton (4 Jan). They could also face a EFL Cup tie outside the south of England - at Newcastle, Liverpool or Manchester United - if they reach the semi-finals.

  20. Where could Man City turn for reinforcements?published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2024

    Man City 3-3 Feyernoord

So what can Manchester City do to arrest this dip in performances?

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty explored in the build-up to Tuesday's draw at home to Feyenoord whether City's "Midas touch" in terms of recruitment was on the wane.

Check out this piece, in which Phil runs the rule over the players brought into City in recent times, as well as some of the up-and-coming stars from their academy they have let go.

He also assesses some of the players available on the transfer market who may help bolster's City's current squad. Here is a selection:

Defence - Ousmane Diomande (Estimated transfer value £7.9m)

The 20-year-old Ivorian at Sporting would add physicality, something City have been lacking recently. He's won more than 70% of his aerial duels in Portugal.

Midfield - Martin Zubimendi (ETV £32.9m)

The most likely midfield reinforcement would probably be Real Sociedad's Zubimendi. Liverpool triggered his £51.5m release clause in the summer only for the 25-year-old to reject the move. He's Rodri's replacement for Spain. Brilliant in possession, tenacious without the ball too and would restore some balance to the City midfield.

Attack - Jonathan David (ETV £28.9m)

The Lille striker could be of interest. Once valued well over £50m, he's out of contract next summer so should be available cheaply in January. The Canada forward has four Champions League goals from his first four games, plus seven goals in Ligue 1. He can play with or without Haaland if Guardiola wanted to change style, and is a genuine goal threat.
