It's all well and good turning in a commendable performance against Man City, but where is this determination when Southampton were 2-0 up against also promoted Leicester, and just had to hold on to win? It's the conundrum Saints have had for many years.

It seems unfair that Man City can win ugly as well as all the other ways.

Savinho fizzes the ball across the six-yard box but there's no one there to tap home.

Southampton get on the counter attack. We're into six minutes of added on time and Southampton win a corner. Their first of the match. In the 94th minute.

    Surely not?

  5. 'What an impact from Delap'published at 16:52 British Summer Time

    Brentford 3-3 Ipswich

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on Final Score

Liam Delap, what an impact. He runs across his marker Ethan Pinnock at the front post and it is a wonderful flick. Down to ten men but Ipswich have got it back to 3-3.

  8. 'You don't want penalties given for those'published at 16:50 British Summer Time

    Aston Villa 1-0 Bournemouth

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

You don't want to see those given as penalties.

You can see what the Bournemouth players are thinking but it just drops and hits Bailey's arm and he knows absolutely nothing about it.

  9. goal

GOAL - Brentford 3-3 Ipswichpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time

    Liam Delap (86 mins)

Lovely ball in from the left-hand side from Leif Davis and Liam Delap just gets in front of Ethan Pinnock and it's a lovely deft finish with his outstretched right foot.

Full credit to Ipswich for sticking with it having trailed for much of the second half.

    What drama!

    Man City 1-0 Southampton

Mateo Kovacic goes into the book after taking one for the team as Southampton looked to get on the counter attack.

The free-kick is looking for Paul Onuachu but Ederson saves the header comfortably.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time

    Man City 1-0 Southampton

Manchester City have struggled to find a way through Southampton's rigid defence in this half.

It's all very narrow and the crosses just aren't coming in.

Ilkay Gundogan is coming on for Matheus Nunes while Flynn Downes and Cameron Archer make way for Kamaldeen Sulemana and Paul Onuachu.

Three minutes plus added time to go.

    Aston Villa 1-0 Bournemouth

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Final Score

I think Antoine Semenyo is fishing for that, he goes down when he sees the contact coming. Matty Cash is lucky there because he does swing at the ball wildly but he doesn't catch Semenyo in the end.

City not great again today. Missing senior players and it shows. Southampton really could nick one here.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time

    Brentford 3-2 Ipswich

Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Norgaard make way for Kevin Schade and Mathias Jensen.

Jensen's last act of the day was to have a decent sliding effort from 10-yards out.

  20. 'Barkley playing some of the best football of his career'published at 16:41 British Summer Time

    Aston Villa 1-0 Bournemouth

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Final Score

Ross Barkley has come on at half time, we know he has fantastic ability and he is playing some of the best football of his career. The ball is falling as he hits it and he is on it in a flash. They needed an element of luck to beat Mark Travers today and the pace of the ball takes it into the back of the net.
