Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford talking to BBC Match of the Day: "The energy and the atmosphere speaks for itself. It is down to the players to create this in the stadium but the fans today, that is what we want to hear, nothing but positivity and pushing the fans forward.

"It wasn't as easy as it looked today. Amad [Diallo] did well to counter-press for two of the goals. He's so sharp and he's always got the intent to push the other team back, with and without the ball. It is for the players to understand the strengths of other players so we can feed off each other.

"We worked on it [the first goal] yesterday and it is always nice when something comes off that you worked off. It was a nice goal. The all-round team performance and energy and atmosphere is what we want to create because it makes it difficult for teams to beat us.

"He [Ruben Amorim] is definitely demanding but encouragement to bring your strengths into the game. That is when you get a really good team performance. Hopefully we can build on this and keep pushing. It's nothing to get overly excited by. We have to keep pushing every day to meet his demands."

  3. 'Cairney was really unlucky'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I think that everybody should recognise that the team who deserved to win this afternoon was ourselves. We deserved to win. We played our way with our identity on the pitch. Myself, the players and the fans should be proud of it. We should have been leading the score with the chances we had, we have to be realistic Tottenham had chances as well."

On Tom Cairney's red card: "Firstly I know him, Tom Cairney is not the player for that, everybody knows. I have to be realistic and honest with you, everybody knows I am the first one asking him to be more aggressive in the right way, to keep some principles as a midfielder in that situation but he is not the type of player to do that type of thing. He stamped on his leg and of course looking for the images it should be a red card and we have to accept knowing Tom Cairney was really unlucky because he is not that type of player."

On the reaction to going down to 10 men: "What a reaction from us. The reaction was good, 15 minutes with 10 men and the reality is that Tottenham didn't create one chance."

Fulham didn't deserve to lose today and if someone was going to win I think it looked likely to be Fulham until the sending off.

But if you're going to be critical of them then their chance conversion let them down today.

  6. 'A point is probably fair'published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Fulham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "A point was probably fair. It was a tight game. Neither team opened up too much. It was hard to dominate for either side. Was probably always going to be decided by some half chances and ended up getting the draw.

On Fulham's performance: "For the most part we handled it OK, we should have taken those to put some pressure on them. We looked like we were getting on top and then they scored. They didn't create loads. We are pretty thin on the ground so I can't ask too much more of them at the moment."

On Fraser Forster playing in goal: "He pulled off a couple of important saves for us and it is good to have someone in that area who is stepping in."

On Tom Cairney's red card for Fulham: "I didn't see much of it at the time, obviously they have looked at it and thought it was a red card."

Aston Villa captain John McGinn speaking to Sky Sports: "We went behind from a goal that will be painful for us to watch back. We didn't capitalise on our chances to equalises. We're in a tough moment as a group so it's important for us to stick together, don't let what we have built break, take the responsibility, take the criticism that will probably come our way and look to Wednesday."

"We've still got an opportunity to do something really special this season. We have a game on Wednesday and then on Saturday so we have to turn it around quickly."

On whether being in the Champions League is affecting their form: "I'm not sure it can be an excuse because we had a more difficult turnaround last season. The Conference League games, Thursday to Sunday are much more difficult to recover from. It's an easy excuse but not one we want to use. We know we are good enough to compete and get results like this. We need to get back to the levels we have reached over the last few seasons."

  8. 'Top performance on and off the ball'published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    FT: Chelsea 3-0 Aston Villa

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaking to Sky Sports: "The performance was very good. Top performance on and off the ball and very happy with the three points."

On Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson scoring again: "They are attacking players, they need to be in the box when we are attacking. We saw today that they scored in both games. Enzo was in the right position so we just need to continue."

On goalkeeper Robert Sanchez's performance: "We don't have any doubt, it is more outside noise about him. But we are very happy because he is helping us saving goals and helping in the build up."

On Moises Caicedo playing at right-back: "Moi deserves the best because he is a fantastic guy, very humble, everything we ask he is there to do it."

On defender Wesley Fofana's injury: "It's a muscular problem, looks like a hamstring, we'll see."

On how long he will be out for: "No idea at the moment."

  9. 'We are still in decent shape'published at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    Tottenham 1-1 Fulham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou in his post-match news conference: "It was a tough game, tight game, not a lot of openings for either side. We started well, should have been 1-0 up, then they had their spell and Fraser [Forster] made good saves. We just could not push on. We tried to get momentum late in game when they were down to 10, but just couldn't get it done.

"I know people use [the win at] Man City as a reference point, but I was able to put on Johnson and Werner, had Vicario in goal. I know people are looking for easy targets, but what the players are having to deal with is self evident.

"We're going to have to protect our players. We don't have many options, so will manage them the best we can.

"I've had questions about Man City game, in seven days we have copped some significant blows, we can't play like we did against City in every game. With this club, everything we do well is used as a millstone to bring us down at every opportunity. We can't react to any of that. I just feel, the players we have at the moment are working hard to get us where we want to be, and we are still in decent shape, decent position in the league."

  10. 'We didn't capitalise on moments'published at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    Man Utd 4-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche talking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is a real hard one for me to take as a manager today because we were attacking for their first goal and then got countered on. I was very surprised to go 1-0 down in that way and then it was a glaring mistake. I thought in the first 30 minutes we were good in most ways. The next challenge is that final pass or finish - that is the hardest bit to change. The third goal is madness from our perspective, and it is such an important goal anywhere in the Premier League.

"It is the hardship of management. Words are not actions. A large part of the first half the performance was very good. We didn't capitalise on moments. We spoke about keeping it tight in the second half. Fair play to them for capitalising on our mistakes.

"Goalscoring has been a problem for four of five years. It has been a big task for this club for a long time. It is an ongoing challenge. It is very unlike us to make that many mistakes. We've gone back to mistakes today and we need to push it aside quickly."

John on X: A few months ago Emery was "the 2nd best manager in the league". Now floundering midtable with no win in 8. Arsenal/PSG fans have seen this mediocrity before, a few good runs in a 2nd tier cup doesn't make a manager world class.

Having not drawn since the opening game of the season, Spurs have now drawn twice in four days.

Fulham meanwhile have now scored in 12 consecutive top-flight games for the first time since 1967.

They were good value for a point today, especially after being reduced to 10 men. Their players have gone over to applaud the away fans and are being roundly serenaded.

  13. 'Today Chelsea were better than us'published at 15:59 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    FT: Chelsea 3-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Today Chelsea were better than us. They played like they are now feeling confident with the players they have. We had our moments but we didn't score. We are a little bit under our results but we will keep going against Brentford [on Wednesday].

On how worried he is about Villa's winless run : "The important thing is this match. We move forward to Brentford."

  14. 'It is very difficult when you make such glaring individual mistakes'published at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    Man Utd 4-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche talking to Sky Sports: "Early in the season there was too many mistakes and that was the same today. In the first 32 minutes I thought we looked a good outfit, we looked progressive. We played well and opened them up. One mistake led to another mistake and before you know it you're 2-0 down and then a third one straight after kick-off and that is my biggest gripe. It goes to show if you don't stay tuned in all the time it doesn't work for you and that was the case today.

"We've eradicated some mistakes from the start of the season. It is very difficult when you make such glaring individual mistakes. It is a very difficult task.

"This has to get parked quickly. I don't expect our team to make so many mistakes again. They are well versed in this scenario, it has been here for three or four years at this club. We are trying to break this pattern of work for a breakthrough, drop down, breakthrough, drop down. That is the next challenge by reacting in the next game. Every game is a big game, it is true for Everton."

  15. 'I felt the players could solve some of our problems'published at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    Man Utd 4-0 Everton

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim talking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was far from a perfect performance. We have to improve, you can feel that in the game. After 15 minutes Everton controlled the game and it was difficult for us and we were losing the second ball. I felt that the players could solve some problems that we have as a team because of the quality that they have but it was far from a perfect performance but a really good result and tough match."

On their opening goal: "You have to congratulate the players and the rest of the staff. The most important thing on set pieces is the staff so great job. You can see how tall they are and how small we are as a team so we tried to see where we'd have space to create danger."

On Amad Diallo: "He is really big in talent, but small in size. He did a great job but he is also has to improve. He is a great moment. Ruud van Nistelrooy helped him a lot in his games in charge and now he's helping me."

On the mood becoming more buoyant and optimistic: "It helps to have a new face, it always helps. We have to be very clear to our fans and this will always help. Rather than trying to convince the fans about this performance we have a lot to do, it will take time. Sometimes we are not playing well but defended everyone together. Our fans just ask for hard work and then in time they will ask for better football."

  16. 'We can do better indivdually'published at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    FT: Chelsea 3-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to Sky Sports: "The analysis is not only for this match. We arrived here two years ago and progressively we were always getting better. This match is a good test for us to see where we are with teams like Chelsea, Liverpool a few weeks ago. At the beginning of the season we can sense some teams were better than us and one of them is Chelsea. Try to keep balance, not be frustrated. We are going to try again to recover our confidence on Wednesday against Brentford."

On the winless run: "We believe completely in our work. We are enjoying the Champions League and in the league we are more or less under where we were. Our challenge is to fight on Wednesday with Brentford and see how our level is with Brentford. There are still matches to play and we are going to recover our confidence, trying to build the team. We have to try to be better than we are being now. We can individually do better."

On goalkeeper Emi Martinez going off injured at half-time: "We don't know exactly, hopefully it is not a lot. We don't know."

  17. 'Performance was up and down like a rollercoaster'published at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim talking to Sky Sports: "The result was good but we were pragmatic. It was not pretty but we were pragmatic. We did our job, which is to win.

"You can feel that we have a long way to go. You can feel that in the first few minutes, where we were OK, but then Everton controlled the game. Then we got the goals in the right moment and that changed the game.

"You can't just focus on the result, you have to focus on the way the result appeared. Like before the game, we have so much to do, but it is better to work with victories. Let's focus on the performance more than the result.

"You can feel it during the game. It isn't a line of top performances, it is a rollercoaster of performances. We have some moments when we are good but then we have moments when we have to suffer. We did it again like in the Europa League. We need time to train and improve. It is better to work with victories."

On Joshua Zirkzee: "It is everything for the player. He did a great job. It is good for his confidence. We had an idea, but it is not because I selected him that i had an iphipcheny, we needed fresh legs. The players are helping a lot, congratulations to them."

On Marcus Rashford's improved form: "A new coach is always like that, but there is so much to improve. He can do so much better. We all have to improve. But it was a great job from the players."

The atmosphere at Chelsea has long been one of the most tepid in the Premier League.

But there are signs that is changing in recent weeks as the supporters respond to progress made on the pitch by Enzo Maresca, which is justifying the controversially lavish spending by the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.

A critical mass of talent has simply created an imposing, young squad that look capable of competing for titles, if not this season, in years to come.

With Mauricio Pochettino acknowledging the quietness of the home support last season and Maresca also communicating with the fans to generate an atmosphere - there are signs that change is in the air on and off the pitch.

Chelsea's away record remains better than their home form this season but a first clean sheet at Stamford Bridge is part of a positive picture emerging in west London.

The question the majority of Tottenham fans would've had when they turned up today was, 'will we have a Man City performance or one with less tempo?'.

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, speaking to Sky Sports: "Aston Villa are a good team so to win and go higher up the table is good."

On his goal involvements: "I think if I go out and enjoy my football, the goals and assists will come. It's all down to the manager, the desire that he puts into the sessions and what the players give to him.

"If we keep winning, I'm sure we'll be near the top four. We're just trying to keep going and win plenty of games."
