This is massive game for Nottingham Forest tonight against Arsenal.

Arsenal have taken loads of knocks recently. Nottingham Forest at home have the ability to put on an intense show.

Think the plan for spurs is to bring on Son, Spence and Kulusevski against a City team that has tired recently in the latter parts of games.

Arne Slot could have made several changes.

They do have a strong bench, it is a clever tweak, as Jota will be a different nuisance.

This will not be an easy game, but I think Liverpool will get over the line by one goal.

First they face Man City without Haaland and now Newcastle without Isak. When your luck is in, it's in.

The levels that Newcastle have found this season. They have looked flawless in their forward play and Isak is the fulcrum of that.

Isak's movement is exceptional, for him to be missing is massive and it will give Virgil van Dijk a lot of pleasure.

I can’t see Amorim coming good at United. They’d have been better off sticking with Ten Hag. There’s a reason Liverpool and West Ham wouldn’t take Amorim. The man can’t adjust. Once plan A is out the window it’s game over.

It was a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham in the EFL Cup back in October 2024 that started that torrid run for Manchester City, where they won just one of their 11 games across all competitions.

That run also included a 4-0 defeat by Spurs at the Etihad in the Premier League.

Some serious wrongs for Pep Guardiola to put right against Ange Postecoglou's side.

Nottingham Forest v Arsenal (19:30 GMT)

Former Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies says Reds fans should get their "passports ready" for European football next season.

Davies had two spells at Forest boss more than a decade ago, leading them to the Championship play-offs twice.

"Forest fans, enjoy it and get your European passports ready," Davies told BBC East Midlands Today.

"Nuno has come in and done a great job. We have now seen the benefit of the £400m spent and wonderful support from the owner."

I have been down in the media room for most of the evening, so have only just come up to the press box.

It is absolutely throwing it down. A real filthy night in Manchester.

There is a sizeable contingent of Ipswich fans to my right. They will have been looking forward to a trip to Old Trafford since the fixtures came out in the summer.

I doubt they will have thought the conditions would be quite as bad as this.

On Alexander Isak not being in Newcastle's squad...

What a lift that is. The guy [Alexander Isak] is a genius and he is the best in the league.

Preparation changes for a defender, completely changes. You have gone into a game with a certain mindset and you might feel a bit more relaxed.

You tip your hat to Liverpool getting over the line here.

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo did not want to get drawn into a debate about whether they are in the title race in his pre-match news conference.

Forest are third, 17 points behind leaders Liverpool.

"We chase the next game, that is all that is on our minds. We want to chase everything that we want to achieve," he said.

When asked about finishing above Arsenal, Nuno said that the team's ambition is to simply "be better than in previous games".

  12. EFL Cup final previewpublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    Liverpool v Newcastle (20:15 GMT)

Just a couple of weeks before Liverpool take on Newcastle in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on 16 March, we'll get a little preview as to how that may go this evening at Anfield.

League-leaders Liverpool have recorded a couple of draws in recent games but looked in fine form against champions Manchester City on Sunday with a 2-0 win.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also enjoying a brilliant season, they currently sit sixth, level on points with City in fifth and a win would see them leapfrog both them and Chelsea into fourth place.

Since losing their first Premier League home game against Newcastle 2-0 in April 1994, Liverpool are unbeaten in their past 28 against the Magpies at Anfield in the competition (W23 D5).

Meanwhile, Newcastle are winless in 16 Premier League games against the Reds, since a 2-0 win in December 2015 under Steve McClaren.

Over my dead body - Arteta says Arsenal won't give up on title

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says his side will not stop fighting for the Premier League title despite slipping 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners' defeat by West Ham and Liverpool's win over champions Manchester City has widened the gap at the top.

Asked if he would concede the title, Arteta said: "Over my dead body. If not I will go home.

"Mathematically it is possible. Three days ago we could close a gap and you are like 'you are one and a half games away'.

"The difficulty is higher than three days ago but if you are going to win the Premier League you have to do something special.

"If you are going to win the Premier League with the circumstances we have you will probably have to do something that nobody else has done in the history of the Premier League."

  18. Slot 'can't accept' Nunez work ratepublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    Liverpool v Newcastle (20:15 GMT)

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he "can't accept" striker Darwin Nunez's work-rate in his past two games.

The Uruguay international was a second-half substitute in the win over Wolves on 16 February and the draw at Aston Villa on 19 February, when he missed an open goal.

Nunez did not come off the bench in Sunday's 2-0 win at Manchester City, which took Liverpool 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Slot defended Nunez after his miss against Villa but said he allowed his "disappointment" to impact his work-rate.

"I helped him by saying you can miss a chance," Slot said in his news conference before Wednesday's visit of Newcastle.

"I wasn't only hard on him. But for the second time in a row I wasn't happy with his work effort, against Wolves and against Villa.

"I can't accept if a player doesn't give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once, but twice was a bit too much. That's why I addressed it."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will not be in the home dugout this evening after he was given a two-game touchline ban for his red card against Everton.

He was dismissed for approaching referee Michael Oliver on the pitch after the 2-2 Premier League draw at Goodison Park on 12 February.

The Dutch manager will also miss the visit of Southampton on 8 March.

The financial constraints around Manchester United are well known and are expected to lead them on a post-season trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong.

United are about to embark on another round of redundancies but head coach Ruben Amorim has accepted the first-team group bear responsibility for driving up revenues.

One way of doing that is playing overseas matches. United are set to return to the United States next summer as part of the Premier League's pre-season tournament, beginning in late July, after the Club World Cup has concluded.

However, while nothing is signed off yet, it is almost certain United will head to the Far East immediately after their Premier League campaign finishes for two games, against opposition yet to be agreed.

There is a window of a week between the last match against Aston Villa on 25 May and the Champions League final on 31 May, after which players have to be released for international duty.

Tottenham and Newcastle both attracted a lot of criticism last season for heading to Australia for a post-season match at a time when the demands placed on players by the congested calendar is a major debating point.

United have a massive fan base in Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines is the club's official commercial airline partner. However, they last played in the country in 2009, while they last went to Hong Kong in 2013.
