Liverpool boss Matt Beard believes opponents Leicester could be one of the WSL teams to watch this season after recruiting Amandine Miquel as their new manager.

"Amandine Miquel has got great pedigree. If you look at her record and what she's done in France, getting Reims promoted from the second division to the first and then finishing fourth, her record is impressive," Beard wrote in his programme notes for the match.

"Knowing the French personality, her team will be competitive. I worked with Kenza Dali at West Ham and we had a fantastic relationship. She hated losing and I got the same vibes from Amandine when I met her, so I think Leicester could be a surprise package this year. They've recruited well and they've got a good manager so it's going to be a tough test."

Plenty of people laughing in the stands when the whistle went for half-time as the stadium announcer proudly calls out:

    "Arsenal lead 1-0 at half-time."

He then quickly realises his mistakes, probably swears loudly off mic and says aloud:

"Correction: Arsenal 1-1 Manchester" in a slightly less enthusiastic voice.

Who actually thinks that Blackstenius is a better striking option than Miedema? She should have scored two already. Miedema would not have missed those chances!

It has been a fantastic first half hasn't it?

Man City started off looking the stronger side but the early goal just settled any nerves that Arsenal had and they have looked so dangerous going forward.

Ayaka Yamashita did so well there, she got out early and didn't commit this time.. She stood up tall, didn't dive in and did so well to get a block on the shot from Stina Blackstenius. Another great run from Blackstenius but again she couldn't finish.

What a HUGE chance that was for Stina Blackstenius. There was a man in the stands in front of me stood with his arms behind his head for a good minute or so afterwards. He couldn't believe it didn't go in!

Stina Blackstenius should have done better there.

The Sweden forward finds herself through on goal with only Ayaka Yamashita to beat, but again she takes too long to get her shot off and Yamashita is off her line to make the save.

It was messy defending from Arsenal. A couple of rebounds on the edge of the box and it falls to Vivianne Miedema, who else? She smashes the ball into the net, it did take a big deflection I think from Laia Codina, but City won't care.

It was a very calm celebration from Vivianne Miedema. I'd be knee sliding and everything out there!

Laia Codina immediately pushed her head into the ground with frustration as that took such a big deflection off her back.

Vivianne Miedema, as expected, does not celebrate at all and instead allows her team-mates to huddle around her.

Vivanne Miedema steals the ball off Lotte Wubben-Moy and gets lucky with the strike as it takes a huge deflection off Laia Codina's head - completely wrongfooting Manuela Zinsberger.

Both teams used the break in play to get instructions from the coaches.

Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor is sat in the stands as he prefers a higher up position to see the pitch.

He might pop down later during the match with ideas to pass on. Interesting tactic.

I won't be surprised if there are changes made early on in the second half for Man City. Aoba Fujino has shown a bit of inexperience in her decision making. She had a good effort on goal, and a good strike it was but she has not really caused enough problems for this Arsenal defence.
