Rob, Cambridge. Hi Phil, I'm intrigued to hear what you would do as manager/sporting director at Man Utd regarding Rashford when this season ends. Assuming he continues to perform well at Villa, would you try to welcome him back/discuss ideas with him, or has that ship now sailed?

Hello, Rob. This is a really interesting question. Marcus Rashford has done well at Aston Villa and looked much more like his old self, but I believe Manchester United Head Coach Ruben Amorim has looked at Rashford, on and off the pitch, and decided he is not for him.

He made that pretty clear. There is always room for discussion when his Villa loan spell ends but, based on what Amorim has said publicly about Rashford, I do not see any way those bridges can be rebuilt.

Right, there are loads of Phil Q&A posts to come, so I'm not going to introduce a new Get Involved thread.

There are, however, some great "other teams called Villa" entries. I'm going to share them purely as a one off, but you can't all be messaging in other suggestions after that, OK?

We need to get straight back on topic. Please, it's my appraisal very soon.

No, guys, I knew that one.

Villarreal and Sevilla were mentioned by Phil in the post before. I was just trying to think of some others.

You guys know I read back the posts right? I know it doesn't feel like it, but I do.

Jed, Cyprus: Phil, can somebody explain what’s wrong with Mohammed Salah, that’s about three games now which he seems to have lost his mojo.

Hello, Jed. I don’t think anything is wrong with Mohamed Salah. He has had a magnificent season but is going through a quieter spell. It happened to the greatest players.

I left a close knit side at AFC Wallingford to go and play for Fleet many years ago. I ended up playing and scoring multiple goals in the FA Cup Prelims. Not quite Liverpool v Real Madrid but sometimes the grass can be greener!

Andrew: Hi Phil, Emery clearly knows what he’s doing at Villa. He’s improved the squad he inherited and clearly won the January transfer window. Why do you think it didn’t work out at Arsenal?

Afternoon, Andrew. He certainly does. I think he is outstanding and has done a brilliant job at Aston Villa.

Hard to say at Arsenal, although it should also be remembered he got them to the Europa League Final and finished fifth in the Premier League, a point off the top four in his only full season.

I do think succeeding Arsene Wenger was a huge task, not just in a footballing sense but psychologically when one man has effectively controlled the club for so long. It was a club in transition after the long reign of a great manager, as we saw when David Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Maybe a club like Villa, trying to break the glass ceiling, just suits him more, rather than somewhere like Arsenal and, of course, Paris St. Germain. Remember he won three Europa Leagues with Sevilla and another with Villarreal.

Maybe he just works best at teams with “Villa” in their name

Whatever the reason, Aston Villa can be grateful they have such a superb operator who has taken them to the FA Cup semi-final, the Champions League quarter-final and challenging for the top four again.

Adam: A question for Phil McNulty - do you think the foul on Jacob Ramsey last night was a Penalty? I.e did VAR get it wrong.

Afternoon, Adam. I was at Brighton last night and fully expected a penalty to be given when I watched replays of Jack Hinshelwood’s challenge. I thought that decision was wrong.

Jon: To Phil, Premier Football, Re Pickford kicking Nunez, Didn't Anthony Gordon get red carded for fouling an opponent after the whistle had gone. Pickford committed the same offense yet nothing happened?

You are right. Gordon’s offence was committed when play had stopped. We must assume the officials did not think what Pickford did was worthy of punishment or it escaped their attention.

As a Liverpool fan, I don’t blame Trent for wanting to leave. It’s totally his choice. I don’t even think the transfer fee is his problem. I do think though that he should have come out and told the fans before it was all “leaked” to the media. He should have said he was not renewing at the start of the season.

    'I just can’t accept that'published at 13:12 British Summer Time 3 April

    Phil McNulty Q&A

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Chad: Phil, PGMOL confirmed the mistake in last night's Derby. If the relatively inexperienced referee has missed it - fair enough. It happens. Who was on VAR where the real mistake was made? Surprise me not. Paul Tierney Jurgen Klopp’s favourite referee. When do you think the PGMOL will stop allowing referees with a demonstrably personal agenda to be allowed to officiate certain fixtures. There is simply no explanation for the VAR decision that is not insidious.

Hi, Chad. It is very dangerous to assume referees or officials make decisions based on a personal agenda. And Liverpool’s manager is now Arne Slot not Jurgen Klopp, so let's forget that.

Of course James Tarkowski should have been shown a red card. It was an awful challenge, but this falls under an error by the officials, as now admitted by the PGMOL, not one based on some personal agenda. I just can’t accept that.
