My deepest condolences Lorraine.
I'm loving the Tifo chat though. What would be on the BBC Sport football live text banner?

Right, I'm off to go and cry in a corner for a few moments about that truly horrific apple (it crumbled on the first bite, devastating), so I'm handing the live baton over to Joe Rindl now.
Run, Joe, run...

Re the Rodri flag. It’s football Banter, why would you not take advantage of that? Whether it backfires or not, who cares. You’d be stupid not to display it, you would look ridiculous if you waited till you were 3-nil up and then displayed it. Where would the ‘banter’ be in that? #noregrets

A lot of what we've seen has been typical of everything that has happened to Manchester City since October - when that initial losing streak started.
They have got players back now from injury but to lose [Jack] Grealish and [Manuel] Akanji in the way that they did - seeing his injury tonight, you'd have to doubt that he would be available for the second leg. They are obviously being very careful with Nathan Ake as well.
Even though I thought [John] Stones did very well tonight in the positions that he played, there is still that gaping gap from the man who was on the banner at the start of the evening in the stands, Rodri.

I don't understand why the "ageing squad" is an argument for City's poor form when only three outfield players are over 30.

Rob, thanks for text. You've taken my mind temporarily off a soft apple I've just bitten in to. Horrible.
Can a manager only be considered one of the very best when they've rebuilt a squad and continued the cycle of winning silverware?
Is there a definite line between a 'great coach' and 'great manager'?
All opinions welcome via the usual channels above.

People keep saying this because it's worth repeating: great managers build and rebuild great teams. Wenger, Mourinho and Klopp all built great teams (and Klopp rebuilt his first great team with a new midfield and attack that Arne Slot is now benefitting from). Fergie famously built 3 great teams at Man Utd. Pep has only ever fine tuned title winning teams. He's a great coach but clearly not a great manager.

More uncertainty and bad news coming out of Manchester United.
Long-serving head of team operations Jackie Kay, who has been with United for almost 30 years, is leaving the club.
At the same time another round of redundancies is planned, which could add over 100 staff members to the 250 that has already lost their jobs since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner last year.
Final decisions are yet to be made but Ratcliffe is committed to slashing costs in a bid to make United a more streamlined operation.
The argument is the finance saved can be ploughed back into the first team, although as yet, that policy had not borne fruit.
Ratcliffe has already shown he is prepared to make unpopular decisions, which have included removing Sir Alex Ferguson’s status as a paid ambassador at the end of the season, ending the policy of free travel for staff to attend finals.
Club sources argue that Ratcliffe has already pumped in $300m to help pay for extensive improvements to United’s Carrington training ground.
Ratcliffe is still to decide whether to give the green light to a new stadium, which would probably cost in excess of £2bn, or rebuild Old Trafford, which could cost £1.5bn.
Sporting 0-3 Borussia Dortmund
Serhou Guirassy scored his 10th goal in this season's Champions League as Borussia Dortmund beat Sporting in the first-leg of their knockout phase play-off.
Guirassy headed the opener on the hour mark to move level with Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski for the most goals scored in a single European Cup or Champions League campaign by a Dortmund player.
The German side had been second best before getting in front, scoring with just their second shot on target, but they grew in confidence from that moment.
Just eight minutes later, Guinea striker Guirassy turned provider as Sporting completely switched off to allow former Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross the opportunity to finish with his thigh at the far post.
Karim Adeyemi rounded off a swift counter-attack, working a neat one-two with Julian Brandt, to put the Bundesliga club firmly in the driving seat for the second-leg.
Dortmund host Sporting in the return leg on 19 February.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he hasn't been able to find answers to his team's problems this season and that if it was down to one single thing or player, it would be easy.
Watching Real Madrid's winner back, gives you an understanding of what Guardiola means.
There are four different moments in the space of about five seconds where that goal could have been stopped.
1 - Mateo Kovacic pass to Rico Lewis. The midfielder gave a young and relatively inexperienced team-mate a bouncing ball to deal with as Vinicius Jr was closing in at high speed.
2 - Lewis tries to win the ball. The City man was honest in his attempt to salvage the situation. He waited for the ball to drop and Vinicius Jr nipped in. Lewis would have been better assessing the situation, realising what might happen and opted to bring Vinicius down.
3 - Ederson comes out. It is easy to see why he did this but the Brazilian goalkeeper made up his fellow countryman's mind about what to do. The goal was gaping behind him and the ball was bouncing. Lobbing him was the obvious move. Vinicius didn't execute it well but if Ederson had stayed back, he would have given the Real Madrid man a decision to make.
4 - John Stones on the wrong side. Jude Bellingham is on the inside of Stones as the pair chased the loose ball. It made it easier to ease the City man out of the way as the ball was bouncing across them. If Bellingham had been on the outside, he would have had to push in and risk a foul.
When Pep Guardiola talks about his side being unstable, this is an example. They are making too many technical errors and it costs them.
Brest 0-3 PSG
Ousmane Dembele continued his remarkable scoring form as Paris St-Germain took control of their all-France Champions League knockout phase play-off with Brest.
In-form Dembele added another two goals to make it 18 in his last 11 appearances in all competitions.
Former Wolves loan signing Vitinha had opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute after Pierre Lees-Melou had handled an attempt by Dembele.
Dembele then added the second in the 45th minute with a clinical finish before he made it 3-0, pouncing inside the penalty area in the 66th minute.
PSG, who have never won the Champions League, were heading out of the competition before back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Stuttgart in the league phase secured a play-off spot.
They will be strong favourites to advance from this position and face either Liverpool or Barcelona - Dembele's former club - in the last 16.

I'm not a City fan but the Tifo was funny. Rodri was the world's best player last year and Real and Vini's reaction was at best disappointing. Plus, who really knows if it made Vini play any better? Real won but he was lucky Jude was there to tidy up his shinner and he beat the full back maybe twice. Was that an inspired Vini?

It’s not impossible for Manchester City to overturn a one goal deficit in The Bernabeu next week but in the context of the season horribilis (by their recent standards) they are experiencing, it feels it is next to impossible to think they will make it through to the Round of 16.
After all, they only just scraped through the League Phase on the final night and the knock on effect of that was this draw - the toughest they could have got, against the holders with the second leg in the Spanish capital.
And it was yet another night when it seemed what can go wrong, will go wrong for them this season. Twice ahead in the match but ending up losing, and conceding two bad goals late on. They are too easy to score against and that is not a good place to be in when they have to face Mbappe, Vinicius, Rodrygo, Bellingham et al again next Wednesday.
Big money reinforcements arrived in the January transfer window. The injury situation has eased for them, although they lost Grealish and Akanji last night - whether they’ll be fit for next week remains to be seen. But it’s possible by next Wednesday night they will have only the FA Cup left to play for. And to add to that, a verdict is looming on the 100-plus charges Manchester City are facing of allegedly breaching the Premier League’s financial rules. But certainly on the pitch it still feels like a crisis is lurking around every corner which is a remarkable place for this previously almost all-conquering team to find themselves.
Juventus 2-1 PSV
Samuel Mbangula registered late to give Juventus a slender advantage over PSV in their Champions League knockout phase play-off.
The Italian side, who finished 20th during the group phase, made a dominant start as Nicolas Gonzalez, Kenan Yildiz and Paris St-Germain loanee Randal Kolo Muani all had opportunities.
Weston McKennie broke the deadlock in the 34th minute with a stunning strike from the edge of the area after PSV failed to clear their lines.
Despite struggling to carve out clear cut chances, the Dutch side levelled with just their second shot on target when Ivan Perisic nestled an effort into the bottom corner.
With the game seemingly heading for a stalemate, Mbangula popped up to score the winner from just a couple of yards out.
The second-leg will take place at Philips Stadion on 19 February.

The problem with City's flag last night, was that Rodri isn't playing: with him they were nigh-unstoppable, without him they look bang average. Probably not the best idea to remind your opponents that your talisman is missing, whilst theirs is on the pitch!

Man City 2-3 Real Madrid
As it stands, Manchester City are heading towards the exit door of the Champions League before the real competition even begins.
However, it's not over until a rotund person sings. So can City go to Madrid, score a couple of goals, keep a clean, knockout the defending champions and book a place in the last 16?

It's extraordinary this season what we've watched from Manchester City. The fact that this team, this team of these players - it looks as though they have lost the belief.
I would add to that this competition, this Champions League, we've seen enough of it over the years to know that it can throw up some incredible results and incredible surprises so that's why we cannot write City off. But, I'm afraid this season, it actually stretches belief to think that they are going to be able to turn this around next week.

I imagine for City fans, the team rebuild cannot come soon enough. They will be desperate to avoid the 'ten years in the wilderness' suffered by Utd.
