It is 34 years since Sheffield Wednesday defeated Manchester United in the League Cup final in 1991.

The Owls are steeped in history, winning the FA Cup three times while they are four-time champions of England.

Yet the proud club have endured troubled times recently and two weeks ago fans held a mock funeral procession with a coffin to symbolise "the death of the football club".

Fans want owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club following a turbulent time and spoke of their "sadness" and "heartache", calling the situation "soul destroying".

Will Sheffield Wednesday's players give fans something to cheer about by beating Yorkshire rivals Leeds?

  2. 'The club is at breaking point'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 26 August

They have come together the players and supporters. It is almost, us against them mentality.

The Sheffield Wed fans cannot take any more.

The owner has stopped putting his money in, so we're [fans] going to do exactly the same.

The club is at breaking point.

  3. Leeds fans may 'outnumber' Wednesday fanspublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 26 August

We are meant to have a proper Yorkshire derby to look forward to tonight and I cannot imagine many Sheffield Wednesday against Leeds games which have ever been played in a Hillsborough stadium like this.

The protest being made this evening was by not coming to this game.

I'm pretty sure the Leeds fans, about 3,000 of them, may well outnumber the home support.

The North stand is closed tonight, as is the East stand. The only place you will find the home fans is in the lower tier of the south stand.

  4. Under pressurepublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 26 August

Wolves v West Ham (19:30 BST)

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has been in the job eight months, while Graham Potter has been in charge of West Ham for seven months.

Both are under pressure after poor starts to the season.

Wolves are yet to score after following up a 4-0 home defeat to Manchester City with a 1-0 loss at Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, the Hammers were thumped 5-1 at home to Chelsea after losing 3-0 at newly-promoted Sunderland.

An early exit from the Carabao Cup will only increase the pressure on the losing manager.

Managers are only ever a few games away from a crisis nowadays but the start of the season usually gives them a bit of breathing space.

Not at West Ham it appears with Graham Potter's record since he took over in January hard to defend.

An abject home record under Potter, earning just nine points from 10 games, lays the foundations and Potter has won just five of his 21 games in charge, losing 11.

The 5-1 defeat to Chelsea on Friday meant the Hammers have conceded eight in their opening two games, the most goals in the opening two games in Premier League history.

Victory at Wolves - who have also lost their opening two league games - is paramount to find some momentum and ease the growing supporter unrest.

Surely Potter is now trying to get sacked, again with Ward-Prowse, Soucek and Rodriguez the slowest midfield in the world with youngsters left out again!!
