Liverpool boss Arne Slot to BBC Match of the Day: "Palace deserved to win. They were much better in the first half, could have been three or four up. In the second half we were much better and had some very good clear chances which we didn't take. We got the equaliser that would've given us a point but a second Palace set piece goal gave them the win.

"They did their game plan really well. Balls in behind, transition moments and to play through their low block is not easy. They are so disciplined. If I look at the positives we created a lot of chances against a Palace side that hardly conceded a chance. On the negative side we conceded far too many chances from the limited possession Palace had.

On conceding from set pieces: "In every league set piece goals are very important and it is getting more and more crucial in every league. When I watch a Premier League game I see long throw after long throw after long throw.

"It [defending set pieces] was one of our strengths last season but we have to prove very soon that it is still our strength as it is very hard to win a game of football if you concede two set pieces.

"The way we played first half is not our standard, we should play better. Credit to Palace, they had not lost in 17 games. We have now played them four times, one win, one defeat and two draws. So we when we play it is a very equal game."

On Alexander Isak's performance: "If you play against a low block there is less intensity so that's why he played for a bit longer. He was close to scoring and that is what he will do. He was so close to scoring one, he was knocked off balance but stayed on his feet and hit it just outside the post."

I don't think it is anything. There might be a bit of contact but I don't see simulation. I think it's a poor decision and everyone on the pitch looked confused - that's a good indicator.

The boos are definitely for the referee after the decision he made. I think it's a foul, and he's pulled him down. Nottingham Forest had all of the ball but didn't want to move quickly enough to get in behind Sunderland.

Sunderland have a brilliant 4-4-2 block and are keeping Forest out. I'm looking forward to an entertaining second half because now it's all about Forest breaking them down. Maybe will get a few changes like Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi coming on.

That's directed at the controversial incident that led to the Sunderland opener, when the Black Cats were awarded a free-kick and Nicolás Domínguez was booked for simulation, despite there appearing to be contact from Trai Hume as the Forest player went to clear the ball.

Forest have played fairly well, but leave the field frustrated by what they consider an unjust opener from Sunderland.

Well done to the set-piece coach because Sunderland got the block round the back, and they got away with it. I think it's a foul but it's good play from Sunderland.

It's a lovely ball in and a good header from Omar Alderete.

Forest's players also felt that Neco Williams was fouled as the free-kick came in, but the VAR cleared the incident.

Nottingham Forest fans and players were not happy at all with the decision to give the free-kick that led to that goal. It certainly did appear harsh but Sunderland take full advantage and now lead at the City Ground.

Ange Postecoglou was certainly hoping for home comforts but now there's lots of work to do to avoid a fifth game in charge without a win.

Nottingham Forest are fuming - they don't think Sunderland should have had a free-kick in the first place.

Nicolas Dominguez and Trai Hume went for a 50-50 ball, and Forest man Dominguez seemed to be the one who was fouled.

But he was booked for simulation and the free-kick went Sunderland's way and they score from the resulting free-kick.

Sunderland's Noah Sadiki has acres of space to run into as Nottingham Forest drop off, but his shot from the edge of the penalty area is blocked.
