First glimpse of the raw pace of Rumarn Burrell as he threatens to break in behind Nathan Wood and get on the end of a long ball into the left channel.

Wood does well to keep his body between the R's forward and the ball and wins a free-kick from ref James Bell, though Burrell made up a lot of ground in a short time there, enough to give any defender kittens.

Bright start from Saints, who are sticking with Will Still's back-three for now at least with Tom Fellows employed as a right wing-back by interim boss Tonda Eckert.

Adam Armstrong picks the ball up outside the box and has a pop from an angle but it deflects behind for the first corner of the game, which is glanced off-target at the near post by Flynn Downes.

Julien Stephan has made five changes to the Rangers side which went down 4-1 at home to Ipswich on Saturday.

Rhys Norrington-Davies, Amadou Mbengue, Paul Smyth, Koki Saito and Jonathan Varane come in, with Steve Cook, Harvey Vale, Isaac Hayden and Richard Kone all dropping to the bench while Esquerdinha misses out after coming off against the Tractor Boys.

Tonda Eckert has wasted no time in putting his own stamp on Saints, making four changes to the XI which lost to Preston.

Gavin Bazunu is recalled in goal, with Alex McCarthy dropping to the bench, Jack Stephens is back to skipper the side and Tom Fellows and Jay Robinson also return with Ronnie Edwards, Mads Roerslev and Finn Azaz joining McCarthy among the substitutes.

    Portsmouth v Wrexham (20:00 GMT)

Big game, this. Pompey come into it off the back of three straight defeats, the latest a humbling 4-0 loss at Birmingham, while Wrexham are fresh off inflicting a first defeat of the season on Coventry last time out.

The Red Dragons are four places and four points ahead of the Blues after taking seven points from their past three games, including four from top-two Middlesbrough and the Sky Blues, leading defender Dan Scarr to say they "can 100% challenge for a play-off place. I don't think we've got anything to fear".

John Mousinho's men have lost their past two home games and have not lost three straight since March 2018 under Kenny Jackett.

Phil Parkinson's men are winless in their past three on the road but haven't gone four away games without a win since they returned to the EFL in 2023.

Something's got to give in the first meeting between the two clubs in 39 years.

Norwich City head coach Liam Manning discusses Sheff Wed (A) and a meeting on his future

Bottom of the table against second from bottom but there is more pressure on the head coach of the latter than the former.

For Sheffield Wednesday supporters they are just pleased to still be here, more so now Dejphon Chansiri's 10-year spell as owner is over.

Entering administration may have garnered a 12-point deduction but there are potential owners reportedly waiting in the wings to take over.

So you could forgive Wednesdayites for having taken their eye off on-field issues, although but for the points deduction a win tonight would have taken them above tonight's opponents.

That brings us on to Norwich City and embattled head coach Liam Manning.

Six defeats in a row, no points at home and only two victories all season paint a dismal picture.

Supporters have directed their ire at not only the boss but also sporting director Ben Knapper for their woes.

For Manning this was not the script for the first Norwich-born manager of the Canaries.

"The culture is strong, everyone's joined up, everyone's pulling in the same direction," Manning told BBC Radio Norfolk.

The trouble is, at the moment they're pulling in the wrong direction.

  12. Saints not standing stillpublished at 19:33 GMT 5 November

A new chapter at St Mary's begins as Southampton look to halt their slide with a trip to Queens Park Rangers.

The Saints sacked boss Will Still on Sunday after a dismal start to the season left them fourth bottom, three points above the drop-zone with one win in their past 12 Championship games after suffering three straight defeats.

Under-21 head coach Tonda Eckert (pictured) takes over on an interim basis and is boosted by the fact Southampton have a good recent record against the R's, winning on five of their past six trips to Loftus Road. Another three points tonight would make it five straight wins for Saints in this fixture for the first time ever.

QPR have been on a rollercoaster under Julien Stephan this season, taking one point from their opening three games, 14 from the next six and now losing three of their past four games, including back-to-back home games.

Which way will the ride veer next for the Hoops?

By the way, keep an eye on Saints striker Adam Armstrong, he's got four goals in 13 appearances this season but has scored six in his past seven against QPR, he's only scored more against one other club, Birmingham.

On Sunday Southampton sacked manager Will Still after just five months in charge.

The 33-year-old was only appointed in May after leaving French Ligue 1 side Lens so that he could return to the UK, but he won just two of 13 Championship games this season.

Saints were booed off after their 2-0 defeat by Preston North End on Saturday, a result which dropped them to 21st in the table.

In a statement, external, the club said Ruben Martinez, Clement Lemaitre and Carl Martin had also left their positions at the club.

"Will is a great person who gave everything to try and improve performances and results," technical director Johannes Spors said.

"Ultimately that process has taken longer than any of us would have liked. By making a change now we believe it gives us the best chance of turning things around this season and climbing back up the league table."

A new era begins at Loftus Road this evening.

Let's put this as delicately as possible - unless you support either of these two sides this is not a fixture that jumps off the page.

In saying that there is plenty at stake tonight.

Preston find themselves in the rarefied heights of sixth place in the Championship table after a summer squad rebuild led by boss Paul Heckingbottom.

Only Birmingham have left Deepdale with three points this season. In fact, since the start of last season, North End have played 30 home games and lost only five of those.

Saturday's victory at Southampton, despite their opponents' troubles, felt like a statement - Preston aren't about to go away quietly.

Two wins, two draws and two defeats probably tells us all we need to know about Swansea - consistently inconsistent which is preventing them climbing the table but also keeping their heads above water.

This one might not look like a page turner but maybe these sides can write us a thriller.

Big night in the basement battle tonight with four of the bottom five sides in action.

Rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday will be seeking to edge closer back to positive points as they welcome the side immediately above them, Norwich, to Hillsborough.

A point for the Canaries would take them above third-bottom Sheffield United, who lost at Coventry last night, while now managerless Southampton, just above the dotted line, are on the road at QPR.

Their south coast rivals Portsmouth are a point and a place above them before they welcome Wrexham to Fratton Park in our late kick-off.

Preston are the only side in the top-half in action tonight as Swansea head to Deepdale.

North End could go fourth with a win, while victory for the Swans would take them up to 11th.
