I am very grateful to my boss for once again allowing me the day off work to watch us lose away from home again. The last time he denied me a midweek away was our last midweek away win - my boss is very cruel!

What's the link between having the Sunday scaries and watching Sheffield United play football? They give me a great sense of dread. Anyway, good evening everyone!

  10. No hiding place for Foxespublished at 19:39 GMT 4 November

    Leicester v Middlesbrough (19:45 GMT)

Tin helmets might be the order of the day at The King Power Stadium.

Three league defeats in a row for Leicester culminated in cries of "you're not fit to wear the shirt" from those fans who remained at the final whistle of Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Blackburn.

"We hear the frustration of the fans, we all know this. They're entitled to do this," said goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

"We're not hiding away from them, we have to take it on the chin and we have to do something about it."

Doing something about it tonight might be easier said than done with second-placed Middlesbrough visiting, albeit off the back of a 3-0 upset at Watford at the weekend.

That was only Boro's second reverse of the season.

"There has been a good reaction mentality wise and that is what there needs to be," boss Rob Edwards told BBC Radio Tees.

While he focuses on his team's reaction, it could also be the reaction of home fans we end up talking about later...

    Birmingham v Millwall (19:45 GMT)

Big one, this. Birmingham are seeking to close within a point of the play-off places while Millwall could go into the automatic promotion spots with a win.

Chris Davies’ side sit 11th but should be full of confidence after a 4-0 demolition of Portsmouth on Saturday - with all four goals coming from set-pieces, by the way - which made it 11 points from six home games this season.

The Lions lie fourth after Oxford United’s dramatic equaliser on Saturday ensured a 2-2 draw, though Alex Neil's men are the only side in the Championship who remain unbeaten on their travels, with 12 points from their first six matches on the road.

Millwall also have a fine recent record against Blues, taking 18 points from the past 11 encounters, losing only once, and are unbeaten in eight at St Andrew’s, their second longest unbeaten away league run against any side ever.

  12. Which Robins will we see take on Rovers?published at 19:35 GMT 4 November

Bristol City v Blackburn (19:45 GMT)

Bristol City manager Gerhard StruberImage source, Shutterstock

Just 10 days ago most people would have had this as a home banker, but things change quickly in the wacky world of the Championship.

Off the back of three straight wins, Bristol City were pummelled 5-1 at Stoke on Saturday to end their unbeaten start to the season on the road, in which they had scored nine and conceded only twice, earning 11 points from five games on their travels.

Despite the surprise defeat, Gerhard Struber’s side remain fifth and could sneak into second on goal difference with a win tonight.

Rovers were in the drop zone with one point from the previous five games before coming from behind to beat Southampton and then triumphed 2-0 at Leicester on Saturday to set them up nicely for this one.

Incredibly after such contrasting starts to the season, the table is so tight a third straight win for Valerien Ismael would take them within six points of the Robins, with a game in hand.

It’ll be a tough task, however, City have taken 11 points from the past five meetings between the sides at Ashton Gate and 18 from the past 10 encounters overall.

  13. Potent Potters take on Oxfordpublished at 19:32 GMT 4 November

    Oxford v Stoke (19:45 GMT)

Stoke's strong start to the season has been dialled up over the past month.

Three wins from four peaked with a riotous 5-1 thrashing of Bristol City on Saturday, who were unbeaten away from home before then. Manager Mark Robins described it as one of their best performances of his tenure.

The Potters sit third on goal difference, just a point behind Middlesbrough in second, and four off the top.

Tonight they travel to Oxford, who have also enjoyed a positive few weeks. Two of their three wins this season came in the past four matches and they nicked a very late point at home to Millwall at the weekend.

They will hope to keep a warm run going and history to roll on, having never lost to Stoke at home in eight league meetings.

  14. Mason aiming to keep up with the Jonespublished at 19:29 GMT 4 November

Charlton v West Brom (19:45 GMT)

Charlton manager Nathan JonesImage source, Shutterstock

One of these sides has suffered one defeat in nine, boasts the second best defence in the Championship and could return to the top-five with a win tonight... the other is West Brom.

Nathan Jones has masterminded a fine start to the season following Charlton’s promotion from League One and they are the bookies’ favourites tonight against one of the division's most established clubs.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Swansea made it 11 points from six games at The Valley, during which the Addicks have conceded only four goals, while Albion, by contrast, are seeking to avoid a fourth straight away defeat for the first time since March 2023.

Ryan Mason’s men stopped the rot after consecutive defeats with a goalless draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, though the Albion boss admitted it was "disjointed" but could actually overhaul the eighth-placed Robins with a win.

The Addicks are winless in the past five meetings with the Baggies dating back more than 20 years, though the last three have been draws, but have taken 25 points from a possible 27 in floodlit games in 2025.

  15. Rams seek on-field gains against in-form Tigerspublished at 19:26 GMT 4 November

Derby v Hull City (19:45 GMT)

Derby head coach John Eustace talks to Dominic Dietrich before the visit of Hull

On the day you announce losses of £11.3m it's probably best to look to balance the books on the pitch.

But while Derby might be in the red with the accountants they are well in credit under boss John Eustace over the past month.

Three successive victories have pulled them eight points clear of the relegation zone and they're looking to win four on the bounce for the first time since early April.

Not that you'll find Eustace getting ahead of himself.

"The Championship is ruthless and demanding - that's why I always say it's a 46-game season," he told BBC Radio Derby.

So, tonight's visit of Hull City will be a good test of just how far the Rams have come.

The Tigers arrive with only Coventry (15) taking more than their 14 points in the past six games and having won successive matches on their travels.

They are also the division's second top scorers behind, yes, you've guessed it, Coventry.

Two in-form sides seemingly on upward trajectories - this should be good.

  16. Two teams on the mendpublished at 19:23 GMT 4 November

    Ipswich v Watford (19:45 GMT)

They might be small steps but there are signs these two are getting their acts together after faltering starts to the campaign.

For Ipswich it has taken time to reacquaint themselves with the brutal, competitive nature of the Championship.

For Watford there has been the inevitable managerial upheaval.

Kieran McKenna has been rebuilding in Suffolk and they finally look weathertight on the back of successive wins which have pushed them into the top 10.

They haven't won three league games in a row since April 2024.

Victory for Watford at Portman Road tonight would not be anything out of the ordinary - they have only lost on one of their previous 11 visits and haven't lost since 2014.

With Javi Gracia back at the wheel they have won two and lost two, including Saturday's impressive 3-0 take-down of Middlesbrough.

Will Watford feel the Suffolk Punch or can the Hornets sting their hosts?

Even a defeat for Coventry tonight will see them remain top because of their huge goal difference but second place could change hands.

If Middlesbrough fail to win at Leicester then Millwall, Stoke and Bristol City are waiting to pounce.

Hull, Charlton and Ipswich, meanwhile, have designs on breaking into the top six tonight.

The bottom three will remain the same, given Sheffield United would require a huge goal swing even if they could win at Coventry.

Tomorrow night sees the small matter of Sheffield Wednesday at home to Norwich.

On the night Britain's best baker will be crowned - we're backing Jasmine by the way - the Championship will no doubt cook up another menu of delights but who will get their fingers burned?

Coventry remain the ones to beat although there weren't many sweet treats on offer in Wrexham last Friday, just more of a soggy bottom.

Middlesbrough failed to rise to the challenge at Watford but Millwall and Stoke are among those who put in showstopper performances to prove they can stand the heat in the kitchen.

Enough baking analogies? Thought so, we've got all the ingredients so we'll crack on...
