  5. 'Definite red card'published at 13:04 British Summer Time 11 May

    HT: Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

    Peter Crouch
Former Tottenham striker on TNT Sports

If you're looking at the ball the whole way there's an argument that your arm's out to protect him.

The two looks give the game away. It's a definite red card.

Think the red card was correct but so was the Mings one yesterday evening when the ref wasn't even sent to the screen. More VAR inconsistency.

    Peter Croydon

How is Jackson's foul different to the one Mings broke Alex Scott's jaw with yesterday? And somehow didn't even get booked!

    HT: Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

Newcastle were on top for the vast majority of that first half, even before the sending off.

They had 11 shots with six on targets and an xG of 1.3.

By contrast, Chelsea have failed to hit the target with any of their six efforts on goal.

What can Enzo Maresca change to try and help his team get something out of such an important game?

No Jackson for the remaining two games and a loss here means no top five for Chelsea. If they do win the Conference league it will not paper over the deepening cracks.

    Will

Jackson has single-handedly ruining our top 5 chances. Not just this game, but our only striker will miss our last two games too.

  10. 'Newcastle deserve their lead'published at 12:55 British Summer Time 11 May

    HT: Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

    Ally McCoist
Former Rangers striker on TNT Sports

Newcastle have been totally in control. Newcastle deserve to be where they are and defensively they've been absolutely excellent. They deserve their lead.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

That's half-time and things have gone Newcastle's way pretty much from the first whistle.

Sandro Tonali put them ahead inside two minutes before a VAR intervention saw Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson sent off for an elbow on Sven Botman.

The Champions League is surely calling for the Magpies if it stays this way.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez has got to be careful after receiving a yellow card for disputing a free-kick given against Cole Palmer.

The England attacking midfielder says it was shoulder-to-shoulder against Anthony Gordon. Fernandez thought so too and was slightly too, erm, enthusiastic in letting John Brooks know that.

The Chelsea skipper has to be dragged away as he continues to make his point after being booked.

  13. Postpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

Superb play from Pedro Neto to win Chelsea a corner.

It's essentially a one-man counter-attack and Dan Burn is fortunate to avoid a yellow card as he tries and fails to pull the winger down.

The corner comes to nothing, though, Trevoh Chalobah's header looping into the arms of Nick Pope.

  14. INJURY TIMEpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

It's Alexander Isak's chance to come close now, collecting Sandro Tonali's pass inside the penalty area before Robert Sanchez comes out to stop him getting a clean shot in.

We're into six added minutes at the end of the first-half.

  15. Madness from Jacksonpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Nicolas Jackson has got no excuses. Total indiscipline that has dropped Chelsea right in it. A needless forearm smash on Sven Botman that has made a very difficult task even harder.

What will Enzo Maresca do to work around that setback?

  16. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 11 May

Lovely move from Newcastle and it ends with a fantastic first-time pass from Bruno Guimaraes, cushioned into the path of Harvey Barnes.

The former Leicester man races onto it but his shot is diverted behind for a corner.

  17. 'A serious foul play offence'published at 12:42 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

    Premier League

Premier League match centre via X:

"#NEWCHE – 33’ VAR OVERTURN VAR checked the referee’s call of yellow card to Jackson – and deemed that the challenge by Jackson on Botman was a serious foul play offence, therefore recommended an on-field review. The referee then upgraded the yellow to a red card."

  18. 'Unacceptable to let the team and fans down'published at 12:42 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

    Julien Laurens
European football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

If Chelsea don't win today, given they have to play an hour now with 10 men, knowing how important the game is, to let the team and the fans down in that way it is a disgrace and unacceptable.

  19. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea are a goal behind and down to 10 men but they are not out of this.

Noni Madueke gets to the bye-line and pulls the ball back for Pedro Neto. He doesn't connect cleanly with the shot and it's blocked.

That was a decent chance for Enzo Maresca's side.

  20. 'Jackson can't have any complaints'published at 12:40 British Summer Time 11 May

    Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea

    Ally McCoist
Former Rangers striker on TNT Sports

Newcastle have looked unbelievably comfortable with their shape at the moment. Chelsea had to change something.

That has thrown a spanner in the works. Where do Chelsea go now?

I don't think Nicolas Jackson can have any complaints.
