  2. Is Haaland still worth the money? FPL tips and team of weekpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

BBC Fantasy Football graphic featuring an image of Erling Haaland looking frustrated

There's a Friday fixture this weekend so don't forget to select your Fantasy team in time. Just a few more hours to decide what to do with Erling Haaland.

After averaging a whopping 12.6 points in his first five gameweeks, the expensive Manchester City striker has just two points per game in his past three.

In that form, he's not worth the hefty £15.4m price tag, but do you have the guts to take him out of your Fantasy Premier League team?

In a couple of weeks, going no Haaland and spreading the cash might become a serious consideration - but he faces leaky Southampton on Saturday. One more week for captain Erling.

  3. 'Any sort of positive result would do for Palace'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

BBC columnist banner for Chris Sutton

Crystal Palace are desperate to get their first league win of the season, but any sort of positive result would do after losing their past three games.

I was at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday with Radio 5 Live for Arsenal versus Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, and Roy Hodgson was there as a Uefa technical observer. Is his next step a return to the Palace hotseat?

I am saying that tongue in cheek because there is no way they will bring him back - or that he would go back - but Eagles manager Oliver Glasner is already under pressure and the heat will really be on if they lose this game.

I am backing Tottenham, although I am a bit concerned about the fitness of Son Heung-min. Tiredness could affect other players. Spurs play high-pressing and high-energy football and I wonder what playing twice a week will do to them.

Also, the way Tottenham play might suit Palace more, because Eberechi Eze will have a lot more space than he had in their defeat against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

So Palace should pose more of a threat, but Spurs blew West Ham away and, while this will be a lot closer, I still expect them to win.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Nemzzz's prediction: Palace are really missing Michael Olise, so I am backing Spurs. 0-1

  4. Glasner trying to get 'heads and chins up' for Tottenham testpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner on the reaction to Monday's defeat, as the Eagles continue their search for a first league win of the season: "We have all had better moments in football. Of course, there was big disappointment after losing at Nottingham Forest. We met on Tuesday afternoon to analyse the game, but now we are looking forward to the Tottenham game.

"It is about getting the heads and the chins up. We have had good training sessions and the mood has got better and better, but we are all humans so it takes time to deal with disappointment. We gave this time to the players. It has now been forgotten and the complete focus is on the Tottenham game."

  5. Palace discussing potential Wharton surgerypublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Crystal Palace v Tottenham (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that his squad will remain the same as Monday for the 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest, with no new injury concerns or players returning from injury.

Cheick Doucoure completed "one training session" with the first team this week but it is expected his return will "still take time".

On whether the club has decided if Adam Wharton needs to undergo surgery for his injury: "We are discussing. When we make the final decision, we will inform everyone. At the moment, he will be with us for at least the next three games and then we will see what happens."

  6. Villa have no injuries to worry aboutpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on team news: "We have all the players available, just not Jaden [Philogene] because he is suspended, and we have two young players playing with the Under-21s today - Lamare Bogarde and Sil [Swinkels]."

  7. The second dream now is to get a trophy - Emerypublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on his first two years at the club: "Hopefully we will improve more and more. It's been two years since I arrived here. We have been very demanding and we were always trying to be better in each moment we were working here. We achieved some objectives quickly, but there’s still a lot of work to do. When we are achieving the objectives we can face each season, it's very important to work very hard.

"This is the target with the players, club coaches. I am demanding with everybody, and of course we have to enjoy the way we are doing things. My demand is to play in Europe. The second dream I had in that moment and now is to get a trophy. We are looking forward to watching how we improve. I can feel comfort, I can feel confidence and I can feel the protection we have in our back four."

  8. Emery has given the Villa players huge beliefpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender

The manager is everything for Aston Villa. He’s the person who changes the culture of a football club. I think Unai Emery did that straight away, he’s made the players have a different mentality towards the game. I think he’s improved players so whenever a new player comes into the squad, they get better – and existing players get better as well.

I think the big thing is, in big games, Unai Emery can change tactically things, he’s tactically set up going into games, so that the players have huge belief that they can get something out of it.

His signings were decent over the summer and they’re starting to get players back now – Emi Buendia, Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings – so now they’re getting more squad depth ready to go into that busy period in December and January. I think Aston Villa can finish in the top four, but my main concern for them is Chelsea.

  9. 'Maybe this is when Villa show us they do have the required strength in depth'published at 14:37 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

BBC columnist banner for Chris Sutton

Again, the question is how will Villa cope with playing in the Champions League this week?

They played well when they beat Bologna on Tuesday, but the last time they had a big European win, against Bayern Munich at the start of October, they were pretty flat the following weekend when they drew at home to Manchester United.

That's what worries me, especially against a Bournemouth side who will be flying off the back of beating Arsenal. The Cherries scored their opener with a lovely set-piece routine and played really well throughout, including when it was 11 versus 11.

So Villa could probably do without this game - but I still think they will extend their 10-game unbeaten run, and maybe this is when they show us they do have the required strength in depth.

They actually had quite a strong bench against Bologna and Ollie Watkins will be fresh after only coming on for the final half hour or so. I am going to say he will make the difference.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Nemzzz's prediction: Villa for sure. 2-1

  10. Watkins closing in on Villa recordpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Ollie Watkins celebrates after scoring for Aston VillaImage source, PA Media

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins needs just 10 more goals to equal Gabriel Agbonlahor as Villa's all-time Premier League goalscorer.

Agbonlahor netted 74 times across 322 games while Watkins has hit 64 in just 154 appearances.

Will he edge even closer to that record during Saturday's match against Bournemouth?

  11. How far can Villa go in Champions League after 100% start?published at 14:30 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender

The start Aston Villa have made in the Champions League has been phenomenal – three clean sheets and beating Bayern Munich at home. I love the manager, I think Unai Emery’s unbelievable. He’s the type of manager I’d have loved to have worked with. I’ve been fortunate enough to sit down with a couple of the Villa players and they’ve said the level of detail that goes into every training session and the improvement they’ve had in their game has been tenfold.

I don’t think many teams will want to go up against Villa. The club is steeped in history and has been quiet the last few years but then, who’s the manager? That’s what people look at. They look at the manager and go ‘yeah, this is going to be tough because of him and how he’s going to set them up’. Psychologically you go into that game knowing that Emery’s going to be prepared.

I remember the Champions League semi-finals in 2021-22. Liverpool hammered Villarreal in the first leg (2-0) and I thought ‘this is going to be the easiest of second legs away from home’. But his tactics, the way he set his team up, and how difficult he made it for Liverpool - it was one of the most awkward nights that Liverpool had. That Villarreal team was a team of Premier League misfits and suddenly Emery got them to a Champions League semi-final. When you look at him as a manager, he’s the advantage Villa have over a lot of teams.

  12. 'Who knows what will happen in the future?'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Brentford v Ipswich Town (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank on his future: "First and foremost, I'm very, very happy here. It's a fantastic club with fantastic players, staff and owners but who knows what will happen in the future? It's impossible to say that I will stay here forever because life changes, things change - maybe they will kick me out. I have no control over that.

"On the flip side, I may wake up one morning and think I need a new challenge or I move back to Denmark because I know eventually I will move back to Denmark.

"If we're talking about a bigger club - is a bigger club a bigger challenge? It's a different challenge. But it's irrelevant, I have a game tomorrow against Ipswich in which we need to do our very best to try to win."

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Arsenal

Mikel Arteta told the media that at this moment in time he does not know who his starting XI will be on Sunday.

On the importance of not leaking team news, he added: "It is our job to protect it as much as possible because you don't want to give it away.

"We have a lot of sensitive information that people want to share, but it is our obligation to protect the team in the best possible way."

  15. 'Even with the team like this, we are still a great team'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Arsenal

On whether it is his biggest test yet having to face Liverpool with so many key players missing: "We have had very difficult and challenging moments but I don’t think this is one of them. We are so energised, the atmosphere will be tremendous and we are really looking forward to the game.

"I never think about losing. I don’t spend one second on the preparation thinking about if we lose it. It is just very bad luck [with the injuries].

"They are difficult issues and traumatic injuries. International ones are difficult to control. It can happen but it is about how we can react to it and change it. The team have to mentally adapt to that and maintain the belief that even with the team like this, we are still a great team."

    Arsenal

On the possibility of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri being involved against Liverpool, Arteta said: "They are in contention. They give us the option to start the game.

"Myles came on the other night and did really well, Ethan the same. They are first-team players and we treat and value them the same as any other player.

"They don’t fear much and that is something really positive. They create an energy."

  17. 'We don’t feel sorry for ourselves'published at 14:11 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Arsenal

On facing Liverpool with a depleted squad, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: "This is the game. We obviously don’t want to be in this situation but we are lucky to have the squad we have and the attitude to react to difficult situations. We don’t feel sorry for ourselves, we face it and we know how good we are.

"We have different options [in defence]. That partnership [between William Saliba and Gabriel] has been very stable but we have to find a solution. [There's] so much going on with the backline but we have had to adapt to that and the versatile players have been really useful.

"We had a day off after the Champions League and two days to prepare the game. This is a big match, a big opportunity, and we love these kind of matches at the Emirates. The team is really looking forward to it.

"We have to maintain playing with dominance and belief. Our belief, energy and commitment is needed in a big match like this.

"Arne Slot's start has been very good. They are in a really great moment and run. They’re a team who for nine years have been competing at the highest level."

  18. 'Although Wolves have deserved to get more than one point so far, they have been inconsistent'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Brighton v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

BBC columnist banner for Chris Sutton

I disagreed with Wolves boss Gary O'Neil because I thought it was correct not to disallow Manchester City's last-gasp winner last weekend.

O'Neil was clutching at straws to compare it to the goal Max Kilman had ruled out against West Ham last season because, unlike Bernardo Silva for City, in that incident Tawanda Chirewa was offside and directly in the goalkeeper’s way.

I felt for O'Neil because Wolves played really well, although in the end I was only four goals out with my prediction of a 6-1 City win.

This is another tough game for them, against a Brighton side who got a really good win at Newcastle last week. So can Wolves drag themselves up again after giving so much and coming close to getting a point against the champions?

I am really tempted to go for them to get a draw but, although they deserved to get more than one point from their first eight games, they have been inconsistent. Wolves have definitely got a goal in them, but I am going with Brighton to take the points.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Nemzzz's prediction: Brighton are flying but I don't think Wolves are as bad as the league table suggests. 1-1

  19. O'Neil on frustrations of Wolves fans towards VARpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 25 October 2024

Brighton v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Wolves

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil said he could understand the frustration of his club's supporters with VAR: "I was sent a league table, external in the week and we're -20 for VAR interventions, which doesn't mean they're wrong or right, it just means every time VAR gets involved in the past five years, if you get a point for it going for you and you get a minus point for it going against you, we're -20.

"The nearest team to us are West Ham on -7, so you have an understanding as to why Wolverhampton and the fan base isn't a big fan of VAR at this moment, because every time it gets involved, it does feel like there's a lot of them go against us, either rightly or whatever we say.

"There are a few things that feel like they go against you when you're down at the bottom of the league. Statistically it's the toughest start a team has had since 2014 fixture-wise, [with] a couple of little VAR calls that we argue could have gone our way.

"But regardless of all of that, the team, myself, the club and the fan base just stand up and fight every game, as you saw against Manchester City. We've had some tough bumps but we're all stood here ready to fight again and ready to go to Brighton to give everything to improve our situation in the league."
