Summary

  1. 'If you look at the last two seasons Arsenal were far ahead of us'published at 11:18 British Summer Time

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on tough tests and Arsenal: "I said before the game and after the game, that I expected a lot from Chelsea this season and they showed it at Anfield last Sunday. They are a similar team to Arsenal when it comes to playing style, they both like to go with the fullback inside and come into the same formational as Arsenal but if you look at the last two seasons, Arsenal were far ahead of us but also above Chelsea.

"So you would assume playing Arsenal would be more difficult but let's see at the end of the season where Chelsea and Arsenal both are, normally you would expect, since it is an away game, this one is more difficult than Chelsea at home and we all saw how difficult Chelsea at home was."

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on the importance of getting the three points against Arsenal: "We all know that taking points from your competitor and nobody knows in this early stage who is going to be your biggest competitor but I think we all know Arsenal will be one of them. Dropping points against them or winning points against them, that is always important."

Two of the strongest defences I agree, but Calafiori, Timber and Saliba out has completely wiped out Arsenal's strongest area. Liverpool clear favourites for me.

Saliba suspended, but there may be hope, Steve. We'll see what Mikel Arteta says about Arsenal's injuries after 13:30 BST...

  4. 'Not a shot-term recovery' for Alissonpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on Alisson Becker: "Progressing well like we expect but it's not a shot-term recovery, so difficult to judge him. The best way to judge an injury us at the end phase of his rehab and he's not there yet. I can't tell you how long he will be out but don't expect him to be at Brighton in the cup or next week."

  5. Jota to miss Arsenal clashpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Arne Slot has been speaking to the media and has confirmed that Diogo Jota will miss the trip to the Emirates: "[Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa and Conor Bradley] I think they feel good but not when it comes to playing for us during the weekend. Federico might train with us today or tomorrow, but Jota definitely not [available against Arsenal] and Conor Bradley, let's see if he can be with us tomorrow."

  6. Another tough test for Liverpoolpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time

Arsenal v Liverpool (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    BBC Sport

It’s been quite the start for Arne Slot as Liverpool manager, with 11 wins from his first 12 games.

The past week has also seen his side clear two hurdles in a testing run of seven games in 21 days as they have beaten Chelsea at home in the league and RB Leipzig in Germany in the Champions League.

The Reds face another tough test in that run with the trip to Arsenal on Sunday and a big incentive for Slot’s side is that they could move seven points clear of the Gunners if they can get a win against the north London side.

The absence of Martin Odegaard and William Saliba for Arsenal, whose Bukayo Saka is also a doubt, might help Liverpool’s cause.

Slot took Mohamed Salah off after 63 minutes at Leipzig as he had one eye on the game on Sunday and he is trying to utilise his squad to keep them as fresh and in form as possible.

However, he does have his own injury issues. Keeper Alisson Becker and attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott are out, while we’ll see if Slot has anything to say about the fitness of forward Diogo Jota, winger Federico Chiesa and right-back Conor Bradley, who missed the trip to Germany.

Virgil van Dijk has said he is in talks about extending his contract with the club so we’ll also find out if Slot has anything to say on that.

Arsenal away is not as tough as it sounds for Liverpool. With the Gunners missing key players, they should go there and win easily. 3-0

Hosting Chelsea last week was billed as Liverpool's toughest challenge yet, but this Sunday is - without wanting to go too hyperbolic - ginormous.

Arsenal, away. It doesn't get much tougher, so how will Slot's Liverpool cope? Have they got what it takes to get the points? Two of the strongest defences in the league up against each other - is it destined for a 0-0?!

  9. 'I don't think we have any fresh problems'published at 10:44 British Summer Time

Chelsea v Newcastle United (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on other team news: "I don't think we have any fresh problems. Dan Burn was nursing an ankle last week but he managed to play the game and played well. I think we're pretty good."

  10. Scott undergoes surgery and Sinisterra outpublished at 10:41 British Summer Time

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola on Alex Scott who has undergone surgery this week: "He felt after training this week that his knee was blocked. We did an MRI and they could see it was in the meniscus. We decided to have the surgery and lucky for him the surgery could repair his meniscus, even if it means he will be out for a little bit more time."

On Luis Sinisterra: "He came with some hamstring issues after the break. He could play the game and continue training but there was a moment this week where he felt he could not continue. It does not look like something big, it may be a matter of just one week. He is definitely out for tomorrow though, yes."

We'll have Liverpool manager Arne Slot's thoughts before their huge clash with Arsenal shortly. He's currently speaking to the media.

But first, a few more pieces of team news from the Bournemouth and Newcastle camps.

  12. Man Utd coach Fletcher charged by FApublished at 10:33 British Summer Time

Manchester United coach Darren Fletcher has been charged by the FA for Man Utd's fixture against Brentford last Saturday in the Premier League.

The FA say the coach had acted "in an improper and/or confrontational manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words" towards the referee.

  13. 'It was a difficult summer for him'published at 10:29 British Summer Time

Chelsea v Newcastle United (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

If Isak's contractual situation is 'complex', it's far more simple when it comes to Anthony Gordon. The forward signed a long-term contract with Newcastle earlier this week

Howe said: "It was a difficult summer for him, there's no doubt about that. It was a difficult summer for a lot of the players because, through no fault of their own, they are reading headlines on their futures which can be destabilising.

"Anthony had the Euros which was a brilliant experience for him - maybe didn't play as much as he wanted - so there was a frustration there - but then he's thrust back into the action here and he'd hardly had any training and hadn't played in the Euros.

"There was a lot of psychological aspect to deal with and I think he's handled it really well I think this move by him just ends any other thought other than being at his best for us which is his priority and always has been his priority but hopefully it accelerates that."

  14. 'I don't see a short-term issue with Isak's contract'published at 10:21 British Summer Time

Chelsea v Newcastle United (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

With more injury concerns to Callum Wilson, it puts more responsibility on the shoulders of Alexander Isak, who has scored just once in all competitions this season.

There have been reports, however, that contract talks with Isak have been stalling recently. The Swedish striker has three years left on his contract, but manager Eddie Howe says it's a 'complex situation.'

Howe said: "Regarding the contracts, I'm not necessarily involved in those discussions day-to-day, I will hear bits and pieces.

"With Alex, he's got a long contract anyway and we have to be careful regarding our spending due to PSR.

"It's not a clear-cut situation, we of course love him and are desperate from him to stay at Newcastle for many years and score loads of goals for us. But I don't see a short-term issue with his contract."

  16. 'We're going to lose Callum for the next three games'published at 10:06 British Summer Time

Chelsea v Newcastle United (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson: "We're going to lose Callum for the next three games definitely. He's suffered some tightness in his body and he hasn't felt like he could kick on to the last part he needed. He had trained with us and had looked really good but with Callum, he's hyper-sensitive and we're hyper-sensitive to the work. It's no injury as such, he's just not ready to come back again."

  19. 'A point was a decent result' for Man Utdpublished at 09:54 British Summer Time

    Fenerbahce 1-1 Man Utd

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former England and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson spoke about Manchester United's draw on BBC 5 Live Breakfast : "I thought it was a really tough place to go, people know the atmosphere here in Istanbul and Turkey. For the club matches, it's a highly intense, highly driven atmosphere. It was a caldron last night. Some of the noise inside the stadium, we've not heard before. It was an incredible atmosphere.

"It was a tough game for Manchester United and on the grand scale of things, I think a point was a decent result for them. It was a hard-fought point away from home, the same as against Porto. I think if they do qualify automatically out of this tournament, then they may look at this as a point well earned rather than two lost."

The Mourinho effect is that when he's not managing in England, people find his antics entertaining, mischievous and "box office." When he manages in England and you see it week in, week out, it fast becomes tiresome.
