Last season's injury problems definitely have left their mark on Newcastle fans, like Chris, who won't forget that campaign in a hurry.

But THAT midfield is looking strong.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, speaking to Match of the Day: "First of all I am proud of my players because we tried to get another result. The difference between one team and the other team is that when we got the chance to score, we missed, and they scored. Against this type of team, one mistake is one goal.

"I think we created maybe six clear chances to score. We tried everything. I am proud of them. The next game is another chance for three points and this is the mentality I want to see in my team."

As Eddie Howe said, despite the scoreline, Newcastle did not have it all their own way against Wolves.

Jorgen Strand Larsen struck the outside of the post for Wolves late in the first half and half-time substitute Matheus Cunha delivered a lively display off the bench, blazing wide after racing clear of Sven Botman before shooting just off-target from the edge of the box.

Santiago Bueno thought he had reduced the arrears when he bundled home from close range not long after Gordon's effort, and Strand Larsen was denied by a magnificent Martin Dubravka save late on - but it was too little, too late for Wolves.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Match of the Day: "We had a lot of the ball in the first half, we knew Wolves would be stubborn opponents. We got a lucky break with the first goal but overall I think we deserved it.

"Depending on how the game pans out you need different ways to win. The first goal was so important today, we had a few scares today, Wolves are difficult to play against.

"Overall, I can't be too picky, it is nine wins in a row now. We know we can play better than today, we did enough of the detailed work to get the win.

"There's a lot to be positive about and a lot to improve."

Alexander Isak continued his superb form with two goals and an assist as Newcastle equalled their club record of nine straight wins in all competitions with victory over Wolves.

The Sweden striker opened the scoring with a shot which deflected in off Rayan Ait-Nouri, making him the first Newcastle player to find the net in eight consecutive Premier League matches.

Isak doubled his and Newcastle's tally 11 minutes after the restart from Bruno Guimaraes' clever pass.

And Newcastle clinched a comfortable win with 16 minutes remaining when Isak picked out an unmarked Anthony Gordon, who slid a low shot past Sa from a central position.

The Magpies' latest triumph lifts them into the top four for the first time since September, while Wolves slip into the relegation zone on goal difference.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "We weren't anywhere near the levels we should be today, especially in the first half, we were way too passive and allowed Arsenal to get into a rhythm.

"It was unacceptable in the first half that we could go out there in such a big game and be so passive. We haven't done that for quite a while in a game of football and we paid a price for it.

"Injuries are irrelevant if we aren't going out there with the right sort of mindset and intent, and we didn't today."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to Match of the Day: "We were outstanding today. From the first minute we were really intense, showed a lot of quality, played with real purpose to hurt them with and without the ball and created an unbelievable atmosphere, which helps a lot.

"The way we reacted and the attitude we played with - not feeling sorry for ourselves - it was phenomenal. I am so proud of the players.

"When you have opportunities you have to take them and today we have done it."

Mikel Arteta pumped his fists to the stands while Gabriel threw his shirt into the crowd in celebration as a period of abject misery for Arsenal came to a victorious conclusion against Tottenham.

The stakes are always high in the north London derby, but much was riding on this one for Arteta and his team, as a season that started with so much optimism and expectation threatened to flounder.

Arsenal came into the meeting with Spurs on the back of damaging home defeats by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and by Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The scenes at the end of this win over Spurs were wild, noisy and laced with relief as much as celebration. Arsenal had known anything less than victory over their arch-rivals would put a serious dent in their title pursuit.

It demonstrated just how much this 2-1 win meant. Arsenal are now four points behind Liverpool, having played a game more, but this must now be the catalyst for action on and off the pitch.

Match of the Day pundit Micah Richards believed Arsenal produced a "high-energy" performance that was reminiscent of the side's displays in the early days of manager Mikel Arteta's reign at Emirates Stadium:

"You have to give Arsenal credit, especially after going out of the FA Cup to Manchester United. You were looking for a reaction and I just thought they had the higher energy, especially in that first half.

"At times Arsenal [this season] have been a little bit passive. When Arteta first came to the club, this was the Arsenal we saw a lot. Everyone was doing their jobs, they were pressing high, full of confidence and forced Spurs into mistakes."

Arsenal moved to within four points of Premier League leaders Liverpool with victory over Tottenham in the north London derby at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, who have played a game more than Liverpool, were desperate to return to winning ways after losing at home to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg and then going out to Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup third round.

Arsenal suffered another setback when, totally against the run of play, Son Heung-min's shot was deflected off William Saliba past keeper David Raya after 25 minutes.

The response came from a familiar route, Gabriel rising to meet Declan Rice's corner at the far post five minutes before the interval after Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky failed to collect, the last touch coming off Dominic Solanke for an own goal.

Arsenal were ahead four minutes later when Leandro Trossard's bobbling low shot beat Kinsky, who should have done much better.

Mikel Arteta's side dominated the second half, but once again lacked the cutting edge to completely put the game to bed.

And although they closed out the win to keep themselves firmly in the title race, they were almost caught right at the end when Pedro Porro hit the outside of the post from a tight angle.

The pressure valve was released at Emirates Stadium last night as Arsenal recovered from two damaging home defeats in the domestic cup competitions by coming from behind to beat rivals Tottenham.

Fans, players and coaching staff greeted the final whistle with a mixture of relief and excitement after a Dominic Solanke own goal and bobbling Leandro Trossard strike cancelled out Son Heung-min's deflected first-half opener.

The Gunners held firm following a spirited second-half display from Spurs to move to within four points of leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are 13th after falling to a fourth defeat in their last five Premier League games.
